As a new Lemmy user, I'm curious where most people use it from - Is it web, mobile, desktop app?

I'm using Photon and it looks pretty good. At least better than the default web one.

Mobile Voyager user here too. I’m mostly pretty happy with it, as it reminds me a lot of Apollo. It would be nice if keywords and link domains I’ve blocked were sorted alphabetically instead of by block date, and if crossposts from communities I’ve blocked were also themselves blocked.

I don’t think I’ve signed into the web version in months, if not at least a year.

Summit for Android. It's good and fast. I've tried some web apps, but I always return to Summit.

Mobile, voyager. Almost always. Though as a community mod Voyager has some weird quirks and I find myself having to resolve some weird cases via desktop.

    iOS voyager webapp

It works very smoothly, it’s very efficient and without it I wouldn’t browse lemmy as often.

Before I discovered lemmy I was using apollo for Reddit which was exactly what voyager is today. I think the apollo dev allowed voyager to use the code base of Apollo

Voyager on phone for regular use. Then once in a while I log in on the desktop browser to save all my Star Trek memes and dump them on my company Slack.

It looks pretty good everywhere I’ve seen it. It’s a leg up from old Reddit, which was plain but stood the test of time.

What are you using for that? old.lemmy.zip? I would've thought that wouldn't work since it's behind cloudflare, but I just tried it and it does. Interesting.

Phone, boost. Always forget I can also use my desktop browser but honestly I'm so used to Boost it's like it's a completely different website

Really it was Reddit no longer allowing third party apps to use their APIs that got me to look elsewhere and since I had been using Boost for Reddit anyway, and there was also a Boost for Lemmy

I use a web browser on my android tablet 99% of the time. I don't believe in installing many apps to access something a web browser does just fine especially with a limited amount of storage.

Voyager on android. It's good for my usecase. Not much else I can say.

Mobile, in browser with desktop mode on.

I'm weird about apps. It's not even a privacy thing really, I just never got into them as a concept.

The mobile app Connect for Lemmy.

I tried a handful of apps year ago when I started and this was the best at the time. And it has improved over time, to the point where it is better even than Reddit Is Fun was back in the day.

I had bought the ad-free version of Boost before the Redditpocalypse, so I got the ad-free Lemmy Boost and have found it to be pretty great.

When I'm at my computer, I use the theme that looks like a dark mode of old reddit.

Connect on Android but I am logged in from the desktop if I want to post game screenshots.

I use the default interface in browser primarily, but I use Boost on my phone as well as Voyager.

I'm an old school geek. To me, an "app" is basically software running on a phone (in that context), or perhaps software running on a computer (although typically I'd use "application" there, but it depends. A small "application" might be an "app"). I know this is not universal. But for example, to me, reddit or Facebook or Lemmy is not an "app", it is a "website" that you can access via a browser or an app.

I was a long time Sync user (used it for years on Reddit before Lemmy) but it has been abandoned by the Dev. It hasn't been updated since Mar 2024. I got sick of all the little stuff that didn't work right and ended up moving to Voyager.

    Mostly on mobile.

I switch between 3 apps because they each have features that I like.

Jerboa because I like to view user profiles and communities moderated

Voyager because I like the user tagging feature

Eternity because I prefer timestamp format instead of time elapsed format, and it reminds me of Infinity which was my preferred 3rd party app to browse reddit, when I used to do that.

If only I could have user profiles, user tags, and timestamps in one app...
