Pizza is stupid cheap to make at home. Domino's is currently offering Minecraft pizzas that are less than twice the size for more than twice the cost. But making it at home means no grease soaked collectable box.

Cost per person before toppings: $2.77 It is very hard to fit even a dollar worth of toppings on a pizza.

Candied orange peel and chocolate chips for texture, coco powder and orange oil for extra flavor. The orange oil turned out more bitter than I expected (will use orange flavoring next time) so I tried putting some powdered sugar on top to balance it out.

The result was still more bitter than I wanted but looked amazing! I'd never tried using powdered sugar before but I will be doing it again

Tofu Teriyaki (lemmy.today)

Decided to try the frozen tofu-method, it didn't come out quite as chewy as I expected, but still very much an improvement so i'll definitely keep doing tofu this way. The sauce is just a pre-made Oishi brand teriyaki sauce, with chopped garlic + ginger and some mirin.

Edit: also, before frying the tofu pieces I used soy sauce on them and covered with corn starch to get nice browning going on

Been on an apple kick this month after my partner and I went apple picking. This is a crazy dense cake, but oh boy is it delicious! Cinnamon and nutmeg in the batter complements the apples very nicely.

The sauces from earlier in the day and corporate guac and taquitos.

I really need to make a hundred or two and put them in the freezer. Unfortunately while they are individually cheap they are expensive to bulk build.

Cost per person $4.09

I debated all kinds of options for what to do with these jalapenos and just decided to take the option that was going to be the fastest. Made the pepper sauce and then canned them up for later.

Total cost $1.84 Cost per jar, 26¢.

Pan de muerto (programming.dev)

My favourite buns! They have a nice taste and aroma of oranges, and are super elastic and juicy. They're pretty demanding to make. I had to knead them for half an hour, and they had to rise at least 11 hours in total.

Kinda failed at the decoration again, but I learned that I have to flatten them even more first, and use more dough for the bones than the tears.

I was wondering if I should get gloves to a) prevent my hands from stinking after handling fish, b) avoid hurting myself when descaling or cutting fish.

I see influencer chefs wear black nitrile gloves, and I was wondering if they're any good for this use case . Like, aesthetic aside, is this any useful or does this tear easily like latex gloves?

Googling seems to yield mixed results.

Thank you all in advanced

Soy marinated eggs are in general really easy to make, and make for a nice snack or breakfast to bring outdoors or to accompany ramen. While Nitamago has a sweet and salty taste, Lǔ dàn is more aromatic. I like both a lot, and struggle to decide which is my favourite.

I struggled to present them well, so I just arranged them in a bowl 😅

Both really simple, just fried in butter with salt and pepper. There is a butter lemon sauce which adds flavour though. Prepared this way, the lamb cutlets end up tender and juicy. If you have a lot of ghee or clarified butter left over, this is great for using it.

I wanted a stupid cheap savory meal. I got it.

Dry pintos, onion, bacon ends and pieces, cumin, salt, red pepper flakes, turkey stock, cumin, oregano, jalapeno, sour cream, pepper sauce.

Cornbread: corn flour, AP flour, baking floof, sugar, salt, milk, egg, peanut oil.

Cost per person, 80¢

I am not using that word lightly. This is like trying al dente pasta for the first time in my life. Prepared this way, the salmon becomes juicy, crispy and delicate. Takes 15 minutes, goes with almost anything. Make it

Pad kaphrao (programming.dev)

This dish takes like 30 minutes, is cheap, and super delicious. It's sold in tons of places in Thailand, even the 7-Elevens have it heated up. Works well as leftovers, and if you use sticky rice, you don't even need utensils (you shape the rice into utensils).

Thanks to u/FauxPseudo I was inspired to make a Detroit style pizza with a sheet of wings and homemade sauce.

Had a great time putting this together with my son tonight. The dough came out just a bit too doughy in the middle but otherwise it was perfect! I think next time I’ll only do 1.5x the recipe of dough instead of 2x

Imitation Big Mac (media.piefed.social)

Tonight was supposed to be pork chop night but after the cheeseburgers for lunch my wife asked for big macs.

So the pork chops will be in the fridge until tomorrow and tonight is:

Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a (non) sesame seed bun.

Sauteed in a pan with a tablespoon of butter and a big spoonful of honey. I finish with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a tiny amount of salt.

Glass noodles are a personal favorite stir fry base This one has ribeye, carrots, mushrooms, green onions, and spinach. Looks a little brown but tastes delicious!
