Technical progress without societal and moral progress is dangerous.

If we invent something that is more efficient, cheaper and sustainable but it still remains in the hands of extremist billionaires and governments who would use it to I don't know kill more children in gaza, it all becomes moot and just serves as a tool for technofascism.

To play the devil's advocate, Llms have really good use cases in some niche areas. It's just that tech bros are just shoving it to our throats, using it to rob the means of labor and surveillance state, plus they own the means of compute and development.

I once considered it a privilege to be able to program in rust. Even before, rust code can be quite terse

With LLMs now, I see code that gives my brain an anneurism and programming anti patterns that I didn't know existed

Although I understand why LLMs prefer rust safety guarantees that make it difficult to shoot itself on the foot

    *Whisper: self hosted LLMs

Dario: We gotta pace the frontier 😆

But in all seriousness, they're still unmaintaible slop. But who knows maybe in X years they get better. I see a better use case in software cracking libre sourcing

I was wondering if I should get gloves to a) prevent my hands from stinking after handling fish, b) avoid hurting myself when descaling or cutting fish.

I see influencer chefs wear black nitrile gloves, and I was wondering if they're any good for this use case . Like, aesthetic aside, is this any useful or does this tear easily like latex gloves?

Googling seems to yield mixed results.

    Thank you all in advanced

My old laptop for self hosting just croaked, and I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand mini pc, but this time I want to do it proper. I want to optimize the electricity consumption and specs needed/ future upgreadability, considering how expensive everything is now.

My use case is just for self hosting files (infrequent access and reducing reliance to google drive), and occasional dev workload via ssh. I'm thinking of buying a used optiplex with at least i6 gen cpu (SFF or micro form factor), but I want to see if there are better options.

There was a link posted in this subreddit about power consumption comparison of different mini pcs (raspberry pi, n100, etc), and I regret not saving it.

If anyone could suggest me better options it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
