Deer are farmed, too. You can just buy venison at fancy butcher shops in many large cities.

Or, maybe you've heard about buying things online.

Finding venison isn't an impossible task by any stretch of the imagination.

I know. I've done a tremendous amount of high (or at least decent) quality Photoshop image edits. In GIMP and actual Photoshop back when it wasn't subscription-based.

Which is why I called out @OneCardboardBox@lemmy.sdf.org and their obvious underestimate of "oh, it's easy! Anyone can do it!"

It's not easy. Not everyone can do it. I would obsess over this for an hour or so to get this right. The Clanker took 30 seconds.

Recognize that there's a fucking difference in quality and time needed to evoke an emotional and physical reaction here. Don't gaslight yourself for political reasons.

Meh. It's really not very smooth or shiny, factors that make the other image feel closer to a body horror uncanny valley.

This just looks like mediocre MS Paint.

Maybe it's harder than you expect. Just like a mandible plate.

    OP, never delete this.

I once saw a mother do this to her stuffy-nosed baby and hork the snot onto the ground. Then carried on with her day like it was nothing.

    Know my trauma, children.

Basically, yeah. Except the black eyed pea flour gives it a very light and airy texture, as compared to falafel, almost cakey. It feels like eating a savory doughnut hole sandwich. It feels wrong, and tastes like heaven.

If you ask around, you might be surprised who has some in their freezer and would be willing to trade something else for it. One time when I was visiting my parents we wanted some and asked around and found out one of my mom's friends had plenty. Traded them a pan of brownies and bottle of wine for a couple pounds of stew meat. Everyone was a winner.

This will sound insane, but it's amazing. It's a niche fast food in West Africa that I make myself a few times a year.

First, get some bean flour. Any kind will do. Black eyed pea flour is best, but it's usually only something you find in an African food shop. Chic pea flour just as good, so is black bean flour.

Mix with salt, herbs, chicken bullion, and water into a dough and deep fry spoonfuls in a skillet into fritters.

Make up a batch of spicy tomato sauce. Lots of onions and oil and pepper.

Put those fritters in 6-10 inches (have someone else measure, guys) of the cheapest, thin baguette money can buy. Slather in sauce. Enjoy.

Entirely vegan if you want. Complete protein. Zesty, spicy deliciousness.

Online, look for kosai or chichena recipes for the fritters.

I've worked in wildlife conservation, and I'm all for it. With a few caveats.

    • Be a fucking good shot. Practice. Don't slop and wound. Humane kills to the greatest extent possible. Know what the fuck you're doing.
    • Eat the meat. Venison is delicious. Harvest, don't just take a trophy.
    • No spears. Holy shit, please. See point 1. Why is this still a thing? Even a niche thing, but still.
    • Don't scoff at tag prices. Be proud of your contribution. Donate to the crunchy granola hippies that ensure you have game to hunt.

I'm self hosting on an old laptop, and I'm a convert for life. Self-hosting is amazing. Looking for other people's weirdest examples of what they're doing as inspiration.

My example, I recently set up a grammar script, where I have a couple 8b LLMs and an html landing page. I upload a doc and it corrects grammar and highlights changes it made, or just proofreads and I make changes manually. I can upload a novel before bed, and have suggestions based on specific writing styles in the morning. All local, perfectly suited for my own work.

Mine: Once had a meeting with a guy that wanted to be a Starlink distributor in a developing country. His first time in country, had just arrived like 24 hours before. Knew nothing and no one. No idea why he wanted to talk to me, but, whatever...

Wanted to have his "business partner" in on the meeting, and called some douche that talked for 5 solid minutes about how he could see the Cape Kennedy launch tower from his window and whatever else about how amazing he was and so tied in to Elon and all this BS. Called long distance on a real phone line to the States. Not WhatsApp, not even a VOIP or Wifi calling call. I watched him dial +1.... he had a local SIM.

Turns out neither of them even knew which ministry they would need to start with to get a permit for satellite internet service. They just wanted to sell dishies in country and had no idea how to even start a business locally. Didn't look at a single thing online before coming out. They didn't even know about local content policies that effectively meant they needed a local business to sponsor them. I sat and searched online with the guy and showed him everything they needed to see, which was on 1 website.

This was before COVID, and the country only got Starlink 2 years ago.
