After 10 years I left reddit. One of the subs I used to visit frequently is called somethingiswrong2024 which deals with the anomalies that occurred in the 2024 election, which was followed up with trump thanking elmo for his help with the voting computers. Over 3100 counties in the USA...not 1 flipped red to blue. That's never happened. So one of the new mods is a huge Kamala fan. Anything in that sub critical of Kamala is a no go. Question why she disappeared....question why she didn't ask for even one recount....point out she's been on a book tour while the country has been burning...you will get the ban hammer. Look through any post featuring Kamala and scroll through the comments....so so many deletions. Best part is the mod doesn't even live in the US. The fact that people like that are making it impossible to even question Dem leadership is unreal. My home state sub got taken over by a white supremacist. Enough is enough. I know that reddit is built on the model of free labor but when people start doing something egregious that is brazenly awful and the company just nods in approval it's too much. /rant over

Sometimes I check out the comments in these types of posts and aside from the standard issue "so sexy" "she's so hot" etc etc type comments, I sometimes see someone responding to one of them with "ikr? DM me."

The one time I made a standard issue comment myself, some guy chat requested me saying "Wanna chat about her? (Her being the celebrity from the post). I instantly blocked them. I was so confused... Like what is there to talk about?!

I suspect it's something creepy, a fetish* deal or something? Anyone know wtf that's all about?

Edit: FETISH not fetch*

Hi, just wanted to vent a little.

We recently got refused a mortgage. Did a deep dive, and it turned out that it was due to a life-admin screw-up whereby I'd changed bank accounts and an old car insurance direct debit hadn't been transferred across to the new one. It was our fault, but I genuinely thought the account was settled.

I paid it immediately upon discovery. Turns out the company had emailed me twice in three months, to an old account I never check, and then defaulted me with several credit agencies, resulting in me essentially losing thousands of pounds because I couldn't get the mortgage deal I was after. All over a missed termination fee that I was totally unaware of.

I took to Reddit for a bit of legal advice and was piled on by countless sanctimonious, angry folk who were quick to tell me it was my fault and that I didn't have a leg to stand on. They were almost gleeful, with zero empathy or acknowledgement that the consequences of our screw-up were disproportionate.

They all seemed to enjoy telling me I was fucked, it was my fault, and that the company was completely in the right.

Anyway, all I was after was a bit of advice, and I was basically told I was an entitled dick, that I needed to take responsibility for my actions, and that I wouldn't get anything other than six years of bad credit – and rightfully so.

Disheartened by this, I sent an email to the company, calmly stating the facts, not expecting anything to change. I just received an email from the insurance folk saying that they accept the outcome was disproportionate and that they should have made more of an effort to get in touch before defaulting me. They also offered me £100 compensation.

Anyway, just wanted to share this and highlight how these armchair Reddit legal experts, with their skewed, condescending and misanthropic worldview, have really made me appreciate Lemmy and reaffirmed my decision to stay away from that dreadful platform.

"That is a very profound restriction on political debate in Australia," Herzfeld said. "There is a very substantial restriction on what young people can now do."

Yeah, and so what with your fucking automated banhammer, you chucklefucks. Pot calls kettle black, eh?

I think this is one of the most comprehensive critiques of Reddit on the net.

Oct 30 (Reuters) - Reddit shares tumbled 29% on Friday, marking their biggest single-day drop and hitting their lowest level in over a year, after the company warned that Google’s AI-powered search was hurting referral traffic and could shrink its user base.

The online discussion platform still appears in Google search results but is attracting fewer clicks, as users increasingly rely on the tech giant’s AI tools for direct answers.

"When more than a million search referrals a week disappear because Google’s AI answers the question itself, investors are no longer looking just at the next three or four months, but at how much of Reddit’s audience it will really own in the years ahead," said Vitor Madeira, senior market specialist at Capital.com.

Reddit warned that its daily active unique visitors could fall by a low double-digit percentage in the fourth quarter if referral traffic kept declining.

If current losses hold, Reddit is set to lose more than $7 billion in market value and Pinterest about $900 million. The two stocks have fallen about 44% and 23%, respectively, this year through their last close.

Reddit has a 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio of 19.03, compared with Snap’s 7.53 and Pinterest’s 8.48, according to LSEG data.

Separately, Reddit on Friday said it has extended its cloud services agreement with Google through 2029, committing to spend $580 million over three years.

At least 11 brokerages cut their price targets on Reddit, and at least 13 did so on Pinterest.

Looks like it’s not going to be just old Reddit anymore

I keep getting a "This page is not redirecting properly" error message. I think this might be how I kick the habit. New reddit is unbearable.

I got permanently banned recently from Reddit, about 3 or 4 days ago. Probably because I used the word 'kill' or 'die' in a sentence that they didn't agree with that wasn't in any particular way wishing for the death of someone in particular.

But during my 2 months of time being there, it was a miserable experience. I was glad to partake in the vastness of the community but getting anything engaging was really a problem. My profile was riddled with so many posts that got removed because Reddit's filter system removed them. And if I somehow did bypass it by whatever, my posts were removed by automods or moderators who simply didn't agree with what I wanted to talk about that didn't involve them.

It's a very ban-happy of discouraging proportions place. I don't know anymore as to who Reddit is really for, other than just artificially inflating numbers to make advertisers and whoever happy that have stakes in Reddit.

Someone shared a dramatic image on r/Palestine about a kid who hit in head by a terrorist Zionist sniper and surprisingly the little boy survived.

Then I commented about Zionist's soldier as TERRORIST, then immediately my 275k+ account banned. This happened to me several times in recent five years. Many accounts got ban due to anti-zionist / israel post and comments. REDFASCISTS...

When I use at same mode to critique other countries/governments then never be any even warning or ban however when this turns for Israhell the apartheid state then accounts get ban.

Reddit is completely HASBARA network; warn your relatives, friends to not just using as protesting it but the those facts as well.

You can critique anyone, then won't be problem, but... If you do this against Zionists then HASBARA network will monitor your every step and at the first pseudo "rule-breaking" event they will ban you for no real reason.

Guys...

Future is DECENTRALIZATION, I hope Lemmy is genuinely decentralized and no HASBARA moderation is here!

I'm open for extensions, scripts etc. for better Lemmy UI coz current web UI is to outish.

I noticed lately that whenever I have a new account, if I post a post that has a picture in it Reddit fucking bans it regardless of topic

I laugh so damn hard every time when I imagine this

  1. You'll get shadowbanned once you generate a new wallet address.. cuz... u know, that's exactly what a bot would do! Of course you wont find out about this ...till the time comes

  2. With this active shadowban, once spending your funds (receiveing won't be a problem) you'll see the outbound transaction in your history but your 2nd party never receives it

  3. After seeing this, you soon get to figure out you've been shadowbanned. You write an appeal but unfortunately there's no response from admins - and never meant to be

  4. You write a negative review about all this shi but uh oh you don't have enought karma to actually post it since you have only 1 inbound tx (pss.. mind depositing more?)

Also you'll get permabanned if it happened your generated address contained a rude word 😱

Imagine what a AML KYC process would be - you need to record a 360° nude video of yourself reading aloud their political party - ish statute

I have seen LLMs used to karma farm in order to create sellable accounts, but this account is 12yo which I find more disturbing because it means it used to be a real person's and is now being used for something else.

3 month old account with 5.3 million karma already. Seems like a legit account!

got the notification to verify my age when trying to access NSFW posts or profiles already for a few weeks now, but as of today my whole account is blocked unless I verify. I guess that's it then. Based in Austria btw, so there is no specific law in place that forces Reddit to implement this and I will definetly not give my personal information to Persona, a company that belongs to Peter Thiels Palantir group.
