I don't expect my votes to be private, but I will vote as if they were. People reading too much into why someone might have voted a certain way and trying to shame them for it is embarrassing, I'm not going to constrain myself to reasons for voting that are immediately legible to anyone via only one bit of information just for their sake. If I want to downvote something with, for instance, a political message I agree with but the person phrased it in a way that goes against my pet peeves, I'm gonna do that, and I think the ideal would be for these numbers not to be taken very personally or seriously.

So basically I'd say it's bad taste to put it in a UI, but only so far as it encourages people to be weird about it, and ultimately that's on them.

Encrypted between you and the server. Whoever is physically in control of the hardware can still monitor what is happening on that hardware. There are more reasons than that though; imagine legislation is passed that AI providers must implement guardrails, for instance to limit what their models offer in terms of detecting security flaws in a codebase. Inference providers will comply, but if you have your own hardware, they can't directly control what you do with it. Physical ownership represents control.

Oracle is now forced to dismantle these massive superclusters, dumping the underlying hardware back onto the market as smaller, single-GPU virtual machine shapes.

How do I buy one? Is there a way to track the prices? I looked on ebay for some of the cards mentioned here, can't find B200 at all, H200 seems to go between 50-100k which seems very expensive, consumer gpu prices seem to have not come down.

What have people found the best compaction scheme/harness to be for relatively short context? I've been trying to set up an agentic workflow and context management seems like the biggest source of jank and errors. Reassuring to see a paper like this though since the amount of context I can use and still have everything in vram is not that high.

The government is also consulting on whether local leaders should have extra powers, including setting fees and requirements for operators to share data to improve enforcement and journey planning.

I was going to reply to a comment to continue an argument and noticed that the asklemmy@lemmy.world post (about censorship) it was under seems to have been removed (https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/77717181). I figured it's probably down to the no politics rule but still wanted to check if a rationale was provided, but I can't find it in the modlog. Am I not looking in the right way, or else what could be the reason for that?

I had a dream last night where a misshapen naked bald man with bright red skin was sitting in front of me and reciting a long mostly incoherent rant, so I woke myself up and wrote down the little bit I was able to remember:

You can't say the words but you don't want to hear it

Have you ever had a dream where you were able to bring back some particular words that were spoken or written down? What were they?

Allegedly as part of a scheme to get data for the company to train AI and develop adult VR tech while shielding it from legal liability

“In short, this is a lot for one person to torrent on an average day, particularly one who has a demanding job,” Strike 3 writes. The company believes the pattern makes more sense as AI training data or research.

    Anyone played Punk? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I've been playing this currently-in-open-playtest game for the past few days, it's really good. Bullet hell games are normally not my thing but it really nails the roguelike elements, I love a game where there's a reason to think about overall strategy, resources and what you're doing in addition to the direct combat mechanics, having several layers of goals you are working towards at once. There's fuel, which you'll die (permadeath) if you run out of, so you have to keep in mind where the last spots it can be replenished were, and whether those are above or below you since there is gravity affecting travel expense. Health you also die if you run out of and does not regenerate on its own by default, but in contrast to fuel you can't replenish it by going back to base, it's dropped when you kill enemies or open crates and it times out, so being low health is an incentive to do more exploration rather than staying closer to home (maybe in a biome less dangerous than what's at the edge of what your build can currently handle, if that's an option). I haven't played a game quite like this before and I think it's something special.
