Ah, they never said whether we can cook them or not. So I’m taking some sautéed onions on a bbq

Same. Hell, I wouldn't mind eating it raw; I like onion, but a whole one at once might be a bit much, so if I can spread it over a couple of hours then it's easy enough. Although, for 1mill USD I can manage in about 5 minutes, but I could do it for A LOT less. 100$, maybe?

If I get to roast it, I don't need to be paid. It's free food.

Do people really dislike onions that much? Like, I throw diced onions on a ton of different things and usually have to pay for it. I feel like eating a whole onion would just be something I'd do if I was drunk enough and didn't have anything else in the house.

Protein tip, diced/sliced onion with a little sugar diluted in vinegar is a great refreshing side dish.

Red or white, I love raw onion. The looks of revulsion I get make it that much better, but I do really enjoy them. They were my #1 grazing food, next to cheese when I worked at a pizza shop long long ago.

I think onions are disgusting, but I'm a Supertaster (it sounds better than it is) so my taste buds are weird. But yes, to me they're enormously disgusting.

Thankfully leeks and shallots are both delicious, so when I cook I just replace any onion in a recipe with either leek or shallot.

I'm not an onion lover, but I've somehow recently realized that maybe its because yellow onion sucks? White onion (in chili, salsa, etc) I don't mind, and might even miss if it were left out. Red onion, it kinda depends, I often don't want as much as they put on a burger, but I'll leave some small amount on.

But, all the recipes that call for yellow onion seem to be things I don't like. I haven't just tried one alone, to test, but can onion lovers chime in on whether yellow onion is distinctly different enough to be the kind I've hated much of my life?

I eat the kind pictured in the OP image almost exclusively, because they're the cheapest where I live. They aren't that different from red onions to warrant the hate. Idk about white ones, they aren't popular here at all.

Put yellow onions on sandwiches, it'll be fine. Great for frying too. I personally don't like boiled onions, but it's used in soups around here quite a bit.

I hated onions as a kid but enjoy them as an adult.

Yellow onions are kind of the "default" onion in my mind. Basically anything cooked in a skillet can start with some onions in butter or oil. Or as part of the base to start a soup. Most of the time, the onion itself kind of fades into the background, adding some sweet notes to a dish.

Red and white onions are more likely to be used raw (chili topping, pico, added to some salads...). But if I'm cooking, it's usually a yellow onion.

The three main onion colors have different strengths.

Red - best raw. Great diced or sliced as a topping for salad for example, pizza, or maybe chili.

White - holds texture very well. "Clean" taste, not overpowering. Great mixed into pico, salsa, etc. Can also be a good topping for chili.

Yellow - best cooked into food. Has highest sugar content, so amazing for low and slow cooking when you want a sweet (carmelized) taste, or just a nice mellow taste in a stew. Not great to eat raw compared to the others.

You say you don't like recipes that call for yellow onions... What do you mean?? You don't like cooked food? Almost every recipe that calls for cooking an onion will call out yellow onions.

Please give examples of recipes that you don't like that call for yellow onions, I will try to work with you. You seem like you are open to new things.

At the end of the day you might just not like yellow onions. But it might be a texture thing (they can get mushy) or you're accidentally putting them on stuff raw when a red/white is more appropriate.

I’d eat it for free with soy sauce lol

For those curious, they’re preserved eggs, often sold at Asian groceries. You might also find them in the form of an appetizer at an authentic Chinese restaurant

This post was made by an extra terrestrial species to gather info how many humans would eat its offspring.

The question is at which % they deem humanity hostile and will destroy earth star destroyer fashion.

Im doing my part and would eat the alien egg 🫡

Century egg, hands down. Onion's a good second though.

    My personal prices for each:

    Live grub: $50

    Large raw onion: $25

    Carolina Reaper: $100

    Century egg: $10

None of these are even $1000 foods, much less $1,000,000 foods.

If you offered me $1 million to eat all four, I'd do it without thinking twice about it.

I think I heard of them. I do not know anything about them. So I will be eating onions. carolina reapers are simply too hot. Onions? Spicy, but very manageable. Also onions are good for you. They're the most popular vegetable in the world!

Century Eggs are raw eggs kinda cured with lye I think. I've eaten one just because I was in China. They're fine, probably better than a raw brown onion.

A couple of years ago I grew some habanero peppers in my garden. One of the plants had been mislabeled, however, and turned out to be carolina reapers. Eating them didn't feel like normal hot peppers -- it felt like I had been punched hard in the lips.

We grew some reapers intentionally once and we quickly figured out the best way to use them was to chop them up, scrape them into the compost bin, and then cut other stuff without washing the cutting board.

One of them chopped finely in a stir fry is fine, but only if you're looking to eat something actually hot. For a crock pot full of a chilli meat/bean sauce, one reaper and a couple of bhut jolokia is about right for a nice medium heat.

$1 Million dollars is a lot of money and with these options you're risks are: overdoing a pleasant snack (onion), discovering a new delicacy (century egg), an unpleasant flavor and texture (grub), or like twenty cumulative minutes of fiery pain (carolina reaper).

For $100, none of these are worth it unless we're allowed to prepare them in some sort of dish. For $1000, I'll eat a raw onion. For $10,000, anything but the grub, even all three.

For $1 Million? I'll eat all four of these, raw (possibly wriggling), and ask for seconds, if required. I'd be a fool to do otherwise.

When it comes to really hot peppers, its more than the pain going in. They strike again on the other end. I didn't think about that the first time I ate a ghost pepper and then spent the next day roaming around Washington DC.

Oof. I can't imagine that kind of heartburn. I've only had normal hb once from too many chicken wings but I do remember feeling like my stomach was empty all day even after eating food. It made me feel a bit weak for several hours.

or like twenty cumulative minutes of fiery pain (carolina reaper).

For a single reaper, sure. For the entire container of them that's probably at least the rest of your day ruined.
