Nothingburger.

I split my ticket too at the local level. The random Democrat leaving the peace corps is not going to make some huge influential change in the recorders office where the Republican candidate has worked inoffensively for 20 years.

Obviously we don't vote for clerks who don't issue marriage certificates, but "blue no matter who" is for lawmakers, not bean counters. Trying to spin it otherwise is dishonest.

The other commenter got you better though I think.

    [Answered]:

People who are attracted to trans people are far more likely to only be attracted to our hormonal sex than to only be attracted to our assigned sex at birth.

In general in queer spaces it's understood that sexual orientation respects gender identity, for example I like both cis and trans women, but have no desire for anyone with a testosterone dominant body, and I identify as a lesbian.

Some people aren't into trans people of their preferred gender, just like some people aren't into fat people of their preferred gender. In general the rules of politeness that one would follow for the latter should go for the former.

    Thanks @captainlezbian@lemmy.world

    Honorable mentions @MagicShel@lemmy.zip and @Barley_Man@sopuli.xyz

Thank you all so far for being considerate and kind.

Posed Question: So the question of gender identity as I understand it is basically a solved question: people identify as they identify, and that seems totally reasonable. Go to the bathroom you want to use, just wash your hands. The argument is tautological, a woman is what she tells you she is.

What does this actually mean though at the intersection of gender identity with sexual preference? I don't know where else to ask this to get better responses so I expect to get raked across the coals.

If a woman is a woman, a person who says "I crave girl dick" is then a straight perspective? I have a hard time agreeing with it on the merits, but that might be a me problem?

What is the current, accepted perspective here?

By all means, whatever gets your jollies off go do it. I'm not yucking anyone's yum, at the same time, while people say "gender identity and sexuality are different things" it seems to me that it sort of invalidates traditional definitions of sexuality if parts are all arbitrary?

Can someone help with some steering? I've got little kids and niblings and I don't want to be the inadvertent asshole.

I am all for supporting local artists and I feel that "handcrafted in XXX" products make great souvenirs when you're connected to those places. Still, if some AI hallucinated me a perfect novel for my interests, or generated something I couldnt tell was manufactured or created by a master, I would happily enjoy it.

"How can I tell if this is slop so I can know to hate it" sounds stupid to me: good is good. When it comes to art / food / products, I want the best experience for ME. If I want human connectedness, then I'll go interact with a human directly.

I can do without wasted water, power, and money, but in the abstract it seems to bother everyone on Lemmy to enjoy something a person didn't make. I don't have that hang-up.

Next month the kitchen is getting remodeled and I volunteered to provide outlets and light switches for the contractors. I need like 13 of each.

My house is one foot in home assistant and one foot in google and I'm looking for both specific and general advice. I've done mostly Kasa HS200 switches so far in my house but I just installed my first [Enbrighten switch](Enbrighten 43080 Zigbee in-Wall... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08428GDS8) and it seems good, but it's underutilized because either I use the switch or I have to go dig in the HA app, and it isn't convenient yet.

    Here's the deal:

I've got some door sensors, I've got HVAC, I've got doorbell and deadbolt (kind of), I've got zigbee smart blinds, and then a butt load of kasa switches and zigbee third reality wall warts and stuff. All the automations I've made are hands off. I don't have any crossover between Google and home assistant (I understand there IS an integration) but I want to do this right.

    • Should I be doing probably one zigbee switch per room in the remodel (pantry, kitchen, laundry, mudroom) and then kasa? Then eventually move over to full HA?

    • I am struggling to figure out how to help the family switch away from Google to HA, but maybe I want to mask HA with Google? We are using the hub max displays around the house and I'm not sure how to pass control without posting dashboards (which I haven't made) to the Google displays.

Sorry this is rambling, but what should I be thinking about here and how do I take next steps to ungoogle the house? I feel like instead of gobbling random stuff together like I have been doong I have an opportunity to make a commitment, but if I choose wrong it's like a $1k+ mistake at $50 per switch/outlet.
