Hi there!

Let's gather all those recent inspiring Home Assistant dashboards that you have been working on into one thread.

Show off you creative layouts, and card choices, to hopefully give both new and current users ideas for their own setups!

Let's inspire one another! 😊

How are you scheduling your climate/hvac temperatures? I'm currently using the scheduler card, which works ok, I'm just wondering if there's a better option available. I just need a simple way to schedule the daily schedules.

I have a heat pump/mini splits, so I'd like to be able to schedule these independently. I do usually have them off in the summer, and a couple of the integrations I've looked at don't have that ability, just a minimum temperature. I could however, just disable the schedule during summer, I haven't fully decided on that yet.

I'm just curious what others are using/prefer.

A couple I've looked at, but seem like overkill for simple scheduling (feel free to tell me I'm wrong/overlooked something):

  1. velair
  2. versatile thermostat
  3. there was another I looked at briefly and don't remember the name, but realized it was vibe-coded, so those aren't generally maintained very long

Edit: the minisplits I have don't have an actual thermostat. I use esphome controllers to control each one via wifi

Can anyone point to resources, reviews or experiences on monitoring power usage in 240v ac (US)?

Looking at the new energy dashboard features …. I have opower integration of my electricity usage and a nice graph. However most of my power usage is from a heat pump, and EV charger, and maybe a garage heater. All are 240v, larger current loads. So the new feature is something about graphing device usage with overall usage. So that would be cool to add

I started searching online and it doesn’t seem especially positive. I see a few clamp meters with integrations but also see reviews that they’re not very accurate.

Been thinking of installing a heat pump hot water service to disconnect gas from my house.

Has anyone found a unit that has local control - not cloud based, and integrates with HA either natively or through a HACS plugin?

All I can seem to find is cloud based options with sketchy apps.

PSA - if you're seeing this message, along with:

"App Advanced SSH & Web Terminal uses secrets/passwords in its configuration which are detected as not secure. See pwned passwords and secrets for more information on this issue."

The translation is that your password (in this example, for the Advanced SSH & Web Terminal app) was found in the Have I Been Pwned database. The link given in the message is to their page on HIBP, so you might infer it, but it's not obvious that's what they are saying by the wording of the message.

It does not necessarily mean your HA system has been compromised, just that the (likely) same password appears there. So, if you use "hunter2" as a password, and someone else used it for a site that was then compromised, you'd get this message for your "hunter2" password.

Obviously, using an easily guessable password, or the same password for multiple services (hey, we've all done it), isn't good security practice; best to change your password. You can ignore this warning if you like, but from a security point of view, it's not a great idea.

I found the message very confusing - I thought it was telling me that I was storing passwords in plaintext somewhere. Well, clearly I am (since HA was able to check it against the HIBP database), but that's not what the message means. The concern is the password was FOUND there.

I'm not sure why they didn't just say something like, "Your password is in the HIBP database, here's a link for more info. You should change it." That's much clearer than "detected as not secure".

I like the idea of this check, though I know not all will agree (given it's sending info out), but I wish the message was clearer.

(Note, they don't actually send the password to HIBP - it is hashed and compared that way, something like that. I don't know the technical details.)

Does anyone know anything about Apple HomeView support for the ha app yet? That would be a great, if expensive dashboard. I realize it’s not actually available yet but perhaps we have Apple developers who may know something?

The only relevant details I saw were

  • no App Store
  • app availability “like CarPlay”
  • there’s an app certification

I'm running HAOS on a mini x86 PC with localai.io running on a local server with an Intel A750. The model I'm currently using is qwen3:4b-instruct-2507-q4_K_M which should support tool use.

I've tried other models and had similar results.

The debug spew for the above interaction is below. Of note, the data field of intent_output is empty.

Is this something I need to configure on the localai.io side? Something with the yaml file? Or is HA not catching the intents coming from localai?

Background: I used Tailscale for remote access to HA. It mostly worked well, but in the driveway the phone is half on cellular, half on wifi. The HA app keeps an old connection and hangs most of the time when I just quickly want to open the garage door. Kill, reopen, wait. That was annoying enough that I wrote something that fixes that over the weekend.

ha-iroh is a small Android app plus a HACS integration, built on iroh (p2p QUIC). Every phone has a keypair with HA, traffic is end-to-end encrypted, NAT hole punching is done automatically where possible, otherwise a relay is used that only sees ciphertext. Setup (one-time, first connection) is done by scanning a QR-Code.

There is no persistent tunnel. The app dials HA when you tap something and disconnects afterwards, so network switches don't matter and my in-front-of-the-garage-door wait is gone.

Features

  • Device Controls in the Android power menu / quick settings: lights, switches, fans, climate, covers, locks, scenes, scripts, buttons, with live state
  • Assist via quick settings tile or launcher shortcut (text only for now)
  • the normal HA dashboard in a WebView, login once, any auth provider incl. MFA
  • several HA instances in one app
  • pairing by QR code from the HA config flow. Delete the device in HA and the phone is out

Not included, on purpose Sensors, location, notifications, widgets, Wear OS, iOS. I still use the official app for all of that. ha-iroh only covers quick control when I'm not home.

Status

  • v0.2.x. I've not received any major bug reports yet, but DO expect rough edges. For me at least it currently works reliably enough.
  • Android 12+, arm64 APK via GitHub Releases or Obtainium. Not on Play.
  • HA 2026.3+, HACS custom repo. The integration starts a small Rust bridge as a subprocess, x86_64 and aarch64 bundled, so HA OS / Container / Supervised work.
  • Optional: forward one UDP port and iroh connects directly always instead of sometimes via relay. Not required.
  • Two HA settings to check, both in the README: ip_ban_enabled (the bridge connects from localhost, so wrong passwords from one phone can ban 127.0.0.1, i.e. all phones) and never put loopback into trusted_networks.

Disclosure

Large parts of this were built with an LLM. If that's a dealbreaker for you, this project is not for you.

This morning (2026-10-11 07:10:00), I updated to Core 2026.10.1. After the update a few repairs showed up. One was for a Script that has been running for 3 years. Somehow an "Attribute" was inserted in the script, which was not there before the update. I fixed it by deleting the "Attribute". Then there are three devices which has been in my HA for more than 3 years and it is complaining on "... has area but no name on its own".

Edit: I think I know what these are: they are ghost devices which are now resurrected by the Update. The thing is there is no "delete" option when I go to their settings!

Pi5 partitioning. (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 month ago by to c/homeassistant@lemmy.world

I want to leave HAOS live and also run docker for an arr stack sparately.

I got a good deal on a pi5 16gb. I wont get another and NUCs are expensive. I want to put an arr stack, deluge and Jellyfin for local single device viewing. I don't see HA using more than 6gb of RAM, or close to it, so tere should be room to manage this.

I have a 256gb sd, I will change eventually to ssd, so I think I have the resources.

I just need the know how, could anyone advise on some walkthroughs that could allow me to not knock HA while I build out the other side.

Hi!

**My ask up front: **Can someone walk me through the process of how a github project written in python winds up interacting with YAML on an ESP32? Looking for some orientation so I can "RTFM" better.

Background: I have Espectre up and running in my house, which is cool. What I also have in my house is LED crown molding controlled by WLED.

I think the ESP-32s I'm using for the lighting have enough juice to run both items of code (and probably a few other sensors). However, I don't know how to combine them.

What I'm specifically confused about is when I provision a device with ESPHome, I'm not actually clear on what it does. As in: I gather it's making a framework specific to the board to handle running the code in the YAML, but I'm not sure what that looks like specifically. Which means I don't know how to take the code from WLED or ESPectre and also include it (is it as simple as an include?) so that I can make YAMLs that utilize the functionality those to projects provide.

I am especially confused what is happening when YAML code calls specific github projects. Is it literally pulling code from the repository?

For context I have decent capability and experience, but mostly within code, bridging multiple architectures like this is new. I have stumbled on for years doing some fairly advanced projects, but I mostly am a very determined monkey banging on a type writer.

Hi All!

Recently purchased a Honeywell t6 Pro Z-wave thermostat, and a Zwave dongle to go with it.

I'm running HA in docker, so I spooled up the Z-wave JS UI in a seperate docker container as well. I then added the HA integration for Z-wave and got it talking to the ZwavejsUI

I can tell something went right because the thermostat shows up in the HA integration as "Node 2", but there aren't any exposed entities that have anything to do with thermostat functions; It shows things like "node status", "ping", etc.

Edit: It also shows up as a "unknown manufacturer" and product in ZwavsJSUI

So something is working... just not as a thermostat.

Any help? I'm a few steps away from returning it and just using a shelly relay to short the two wires together.

I have a KIA, it is decent but I would love more freedom ans I sont trust that access will remain free. VW is paid now.

I am in europe and looking to buy in2027.

My least favorite noise is the low battery chirp that normal smoke detectors emit when low at night. I'm looking to replace my 8 hardwired smoke alarms with new ones that don't have that. I just moved and miss my nest protects only bc this sound doesn't happen. I've read that protects have been discontinued and replaced with these sc5's from first alert . Since I've degoogled I don't really need the "protect integration"

So I need hardwired interconnects (US law afaik bc existing are hardwired) but mostly would like the voice alerts and no battery chirp. I've read that xsense is fairly decent but these new ones that have the voice alerts don't appear to be UL certified so that's a no-go, unless I've just missed it.

I was looking at the anyplace alarms as I saw them in another thread, but can't tell if the low battery notification is a chirp or not? Anyone had any experience with these? They also appear to be out of stock on home depot so no idea if/when they'll be available.

I'm open to all options that are hardwired.

ETA: I've reached out to x-sense to see if the XP0J-SA is UL/ETL certified. I'm waiting to hear back

I just picked up a 4K commercial display to upgrade my TV for cheap. It has an RS232C port on the back for control, and Home Assistant has a native integration to control it via a local Linux tty. The hitch is that my Home Assistant server is located in a spot not near the television, and running physical serial line to it would be inconvenient. But, since I have a Raspberry Pi connected as the streaming media box, I should be able to plug a USB adapter into it and route the serial data over the network, right?

Is there a a good way to do this in HAOS?

Update policy (lemmy.world)

What is your update policy? Are you on auto update, or do you manually go over stuff, do you pick a day to just flush it all though, or are you just on an old version?

Share why and how you run your updates? I would like to hear how you all manage them

I'm trying to start using Thread devices in Home Assistant for the first time. I've gotten a Sonoff Dongle Plus MG24, flashed it with OpenThread firmware, added it as an OpenThread Border Router in Home Assistant, and added the Matter integration.

However, when I try to commission a Matter/Thread device using the Home Assistant companion app on my GrapheneOS phone, I scan the QR code, get to the screen that says "power on your device and make sure it's in setup mode," and "connect your phone to your main 2.4GHz network" and tap the "I'm ready" button, but then it gives me an error that I have "no Wi-Fi connection" even though it is definitely connected to the correct (2.4Ghz, not 5GHz) network.

I've also checked that the Home Assistant app has all the necessary permissions (network, nearby sensors, etc.)

Help?

Edit: I just found these bug report threads that look like they're relevant, but I'm still reading through them:

Had an old iPad in a drawer that can't install anything from the App Store anymore, so it became a photo frame. It loads a fullscreen page from a Home Assistant add-on I wrote and cycles through family photos straight off the SMB share on my NAS. No cloud, no account.

In the morning the hallway motion sensor switches it into weather mode for a couple of hours, so every 8th photo becomes a weather screen with the next 12 hours. The latest version also has a small weather badge in the corner that can stay up all day, or only show up when rain, snow, frost or heat is coming. HA just pushes to it with two rest_commands - the frame itself has no token for HA.

The part I'm happiest with is the bin reminder. The frame tells you the day before which bin goes out, and you don't type the dates in: you upload the PDF leaflet from your municipality and it reads the dates out of it, locally, no OCR. It works off the coloured cells in the calendar grid (row = ISO week, column = weekday) and checks each one against the printed day number.

It does ingress now too, so it opens from the HA sidebar, and with Mosquitto running it creates MQTT entities for the next collection, photo count and weather mode on its own.

Most of the work honestly went into old Safari. iOS 9 silently ignores half of modern CSS, so everything has px fallbacks and the weather screen is laid out with tables.

Install: Settings > Add-ons > Add-on Store > three dots > Repositories > add https://github.com/emo546/ha-snapframe

If you have an ancient iPad and something looks broken on it, tell me the iOS version.
