Just written language, math, and the basic foundation of scientific advancement. Without those things, the brain worm might have prevented us from having to deal with him.

All right, but aside from written language, math and basic foundation of scientific advancement, what have the Arabs ever done for us?!

I want to make a joke about you making me moist, but instead I'll just make a reference to making that joke as I think it's less painful. lol. I get to make the joke AND have it not be quite as awkward. :)

Actually I believe the first recorded, archeological proof of an aqueduct goes back to Assyria, and then at some point the Romans copied the design and put them everywhere, all of this being LONG before Islam was even a thing. History is full of similar instances where the person/entity who famously used X was NOT the inventor, and instead stole it from someone else first

They literally saved Greek science and mathematics from extinction during the dark ages. Sure, Arabic mathematics had its mini dark age when they decided everything should be human words only to make it easier to understand for humans, then they realized that wasn't the way to go.

How about the number system , we all be using Roman number system if it wasn’t for Arab mathematics.

Technically Arabs just brought over the Indian system. Would be fun if e.g. Slavs brought it instead, and it would be called Slavic numerals.

Who do you think the Phoenicians were? Do you think a sea faring people wouldn't have picked up different nationalities? That's why racism is so stupid.

    On the original point:

Mathematics during the Golden Age of Islam, especially during the 9th and 10th centuries, was built upon syntheses of Greek mathematics (Euclid, Archimedes, Apollonius) and Indian mathematics (Aryabhata, Brahmagupta). Important developments of the period include extension of the place-value system to include decimal fractions, the systematised study of algebra and advances in geometry and trigonometry.

Too bad Algebra doesn't have that much of a use, except, it complicates matters. Why do we even need it when basic mathematics cover about 90% of the things we need to calculate things by?

    That was a painful watch.

    But lets break this down:

His argument is that hatred, war, and victimization cause a reduction in contribution to science and literature.

You asshole, quit pointing your fingers at others and start cleaning up your own damn house.

His argument is that hatred, war, and victimization cause a reduction in contribution to science and literature.

I mean, in general, that's not exactly wrong.

But the fact that these stupid apes are the ones talking about anyone or anywhere else is so absurd, given they are actively carrying out actions causing a historic brain drain in America. Him making generic claims about 500M people is really quite a choice, given what a handful of dipshits like him in this administration are carrying out.

What science or literature has Brainworms produced?

All I see this asshat doing is trying to sabotage proven medicine we already have, set American research back decades, and generally carry on with the conservative project of trying to roll back the Enlightenment as whole.

He can go fuck himself. It's fine if he's not producing science himself, but at the very least, he should get the fuck out of the way of those that can. Certainly, he should shut the fuck up about what others produce when he beclowns himself on the regular when he talks about science.

I really REALLY want this to happen. It would be such a perfect example of how incredibly ignorant they are and the complete lack of understanding they have for the world around them.

Like the time a city banned "di-hydrogen monoxide" for like a day until they realized it was just a fancy name for H2O lol

    That's not quite the story...

Viejo, California put a proposal on its agenda to ban plastic foam containers over the chemicals used in making them. In the proposal they listed "dihydrogen monoxide", among other things, presumably because they likely added it to the list after failing to identify a satire website, and it went viral, mostly in right-wing circles that hate anything that protects the environment.

It never got past the proposal stage, and the "dihydrogen monoxide" part wasn't even the reason why. They never actually banned water and had to walk that back, a Republican lied to you to make you think that.

I think my high school chemistry teacher told us that as a reason why it's important to know the periodic table or something, idk what their political motivations were.

But I guess even before AI stories were getting twisted and changed to fit narratives or serve personal purposes. Thanks for the info tho, always good to know more info.

  • source
  • [–] 19 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Firstly that's super fucking racist. Secondly, the Islamic golden age famously involved a hell of a lot of science and literature being produced bt Arabs. Thirdly, in recent history there was one famous Arab guy who was so committed to producing literature he was writing books while working an extremely high stress job.

And to better sell this idea of Arabs not producing science or literature, let us ban algebra and algorithms so people don't think of those things ever.

Because their goal is not to be right. Sure, some of them genuinely do believe some of the things they say; but in general the point behind what they say is significantly more important and why they're actually saying it.

In this case, this is a mix of Israeli racism and normal white people racism to further justify endless war in the middle east to fuel the doomsday cult.

The whole ethnic is pretty tenuous. Judaism is pretty heterogeneous. They share a few core beliefs and customs, but the bulk is vastly different among groups.
