“There is one contingency in which I won’t reintroduce the articles of impeachment: Hegseth resigns,” wrote Republican Rep. Thomas Massie.

Republican US Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky said Wednesday that Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth, the most prominent cheerleader and architect of the Trump administration’s illegal war on Iran, will face an impeachment vote in the House of Representatives—unless he submits his resignation first.

“There is one contingency in which I won’t reintroduce the articles of impeachment: Hegseth resigns,” Massie, who unveiled eight impeachment articles against the Pentagon secretary in September, wrote following Democrats’ rout of the GOP in Tuesday’s midterm elections. Massie is expected to force a vote on the articles—which accuse Hegseth of extrajudicial killings, waging wars without congressional authorization, and kidnapping a sovereign foreign leader—as soon as next week.

The Kentucky Republican’s ultimatum came as CNN reported that a “knives-out campaign” against Hegseth intensified following the midterm elections, in which Democrats won control of the House and Senate beginning in January.

Dude needs actual consequences, not an opportunity to walk away without any

I agree. Although those two outcomes (resignation and prosecution) aren't mutually exclusive.

Add his name to The List.

Not sure if someone is actively maintaining the top N people that need investigation and punishment, but...

Vought, Carr, Hegseth, RFK jr, Miller, Bondi, Noem, Musk, Zuckerberg, anyone involved with ICE, all of donnie's family, and of course, donnie himself. But I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of high-profile scum and there are of course many, many that are lesser known that need to be hauled into court.

Will never happen in a country that has been committing war crimes since WWII. Rumsfeld did worse.

Why offer a man accused of war crimes a choice of anything? Just fuck his shit up.

As someone who lives in Washington, I have a very different view of Leavenworth.

While Leavenworth, Washington is a nice little mountain town, Leavenworth, Kansas has something much worse, however it's more fitting for Kegsbreath.

Like, why? Why give him a choice? Why do they insist on no consequences?

Because consequences mean investigations and that would expose how the game is rigged and how every single one in politics, government and capitalist plays the system.

This is a performance, not a correction.

Because there's no point impeaching someone who no longer occupies the position you're trying to impeach them from?

A better choice would be life in prison or capital punishment.

This is not an either/or thing. Pressure him to resign and then impeach him anyway!

It might pass in the house, but unless the senate republicans are really looking for a fall guy, there is little chance for a conviction/removal until the new congress is sworn in and by that time Massie is out...

A lot of Rs are aligning to say that the reason for the ass kicking in this election was the war. Massie is putting them on the record to either stick to that message and do something about it, or it's just all words and no action, or they'll pivot to a new excuse. If they don't vote to impeach kegsbreath then it will come back to haunt them at the next election in two years.

"You knew that the war was illegal and immoral and unpopular, and you knew that it even likely caused the blue tsunami in '26, so why didn't you immediately take action to rectify this when Massie reintroduced articles of impeachment? All you had to do was vote to impeach and you refused. Why should your constituents trust you to do the right thing when you've proven that you'll double down on doing the wrong thing?"

Your guilt has already been determined, this is merely a sentencing hearing. Now what will it be? Impeachment or resignation?
