Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Sunday predicted that Democrats will impeach Trump for a third time between his two presidencies if they take control of the House after the November midterm elections.

Jordan suggested in an interview on “Cats Roundtable,” the WABC 770 AM radio show hosted by John Catsimatidis, that Democrats will take the legislative branch’s oversight capability “and turn it into a weaponization of government.”

“They say they’re not going to, but we know they will –– they’ll do a third impeachment of President Trump,” Jordan told the host. “But that’s just part of it. They’re going to investigate the first family, they’re going to investigate cabinet secretaries.”

I sure hope it doesn't end with just impeaching donnie, either.

All of his accomplices should be hounded with lawsuits and prison time for the rest of their miserable lives.

LOL, that entire performance, from fucking up the location, but then not wanting to admit the fuckup and having it anyway, all the way to him trying to, in real time, simply wish away the election results, because "the media"....

It was a perfect encapsulation of the donnie administration 1.0.

Impeachment itself means nothing. But they can open investigations into all sorts of stuff under the guise of impeachment preparation. They can bring everything to light and leak it all to the press. Done correctly, the whole first family can be dragged through the gutters forever.

The biggest bullshit is that legally speaking, he will get away with everything he did. the supreme court declared that everything the president does is legal. that was some major bullshit.

if what the president is doing now is "legal" then the new president can "legally" have the old president marched into a meat grinder.

Most of them should recieve the harshest justice a mob can dispense to traitors. Neoliberals are conservatives and need to be dealt with as brutally as any other fascist.

That doesn't really answer my question. If Democrats win majorities in the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms, what should they do? I'm assuming they won't have enough votes to remove Trump from office, just like last time.

Oh yeah, MAGA is sure that they're going to be investigated and imprisoned because they know how guilty they are, and they wouldn't hesitate to go on the attack if the situation were reversed.

Like one Nazi General said, after hearing that the Russians had beaten the Nazis, crossed the Volga, and were marching toward Berlin: "If they treat us half as bad as we treated them, we're in big trouble."

That's how MAGA sees it, even if we know that Dems have been too insipid and feckless to fight back in the past. The new crop of Dems coming after the Midterms won't have that same cowardly attitude. They're pissed as Hell, and looking for scalps, and nobody knows it, and FEARS it, more than MAGA.

    We should INDULGE them.

SCOTUS says no. So, we need to remove them first.

We need to make it illegal for conservatives to hold any position of authority. Conservatism can bring only oppression, sickness and death. History has proven this throughout all recorded history.

Nazi symbols, KKK propaganda and confederate flags need to be completely destroyed, and these fools shouldn’t be allowed to spread their views on public platforms. They need to be constantly harassed and humiliated out of existence.

We should be targeting and eliminating white religio-nationalist organizations and purging their influence from all levels of government, especially law enforcement.

Fascists take advantage of free speech to spread their subversive views and seize power.

They should be confined to being taught about truthfully in an educational setting, and not allowed to thrive outside of that. The inhumanity and evil of it needs to be stressed.

We’re repeating history now. The bigots are embolded and using Amerikkkas latent hatred as a means to seize power for the alt-right. And it will be repeated time and time again until we actually finish Sherman’s work.

I couldn't get further than this:

“And then they’ll also, I think, go after people in the private sector,” Jordan continued. “They’re going to go up for any business who, as an example, you got businesses who helped paper the inauguration, which happened every four years … [Democrats] are going to somehow say, ‘Oh, these businesses have done something wrong.'”

Basically everything requires agreement between the house and the senate. The house impeaches, and the senate convicts, thereby agreeing with the house. If they disagree, it stops there just like any other legislation.

I feel like the big official sounding word of "impeachment" should be reserved for after the Senate convicts. Otherwise it's just a meaningless gesture on behalf of the House.

I began searching to see how Bill Clinton was removed, then I realized the Senate acquitted him and his term naturally ended later that month. Andrew Johnson also wasn't convicted.

This mechanism of removing the president from office has literally never worked before! The whole impeachment process is an overhyped nothing burger!

Edit: I should add that all three presidents had the majority of Senate vote to convict at least one of the impeachment charges, but they needed a 2/3rds supermajority because why not?

  • source

Clinton's impeachment is why not. People forget that the blow job he lied about getting that he was impeached for wasn't what he was being investigated for. The investigation was for a supposed shady land deal that turned out to be completely above board. They just kept desperately searching for anything they could because they knew they couldn't win the next election.

The 2/3rds rule makes it hard to convict so that type of purely political move isn't a normal function of congress.

If by "sticks" you mean the Senate votes to remove… they won't. There's not sufficient votes. That's the consequence of years of fascist propaganda leading to Republicans controlling enough of Congress to stop the needed votes.
