Didn't realize that there were already switch 2 emulators available. Sounds like they just dropped and were simpler to develop because the architecture is so similar to the original switch. Nice

I remember a early internet web app that let you customize the oval office decor like a president, choosing from pictures, statues, desks, etc. that the white house has collected over the years from previous presidents and and gifts given to them, and it gave the items history and whatnot. It is such a common part of entering the office that there was a browser game in the 90's about it.

Listing the similarities between the two shows, the court cited the emergency room setting, the fast pace, the use of medical jargon, graphic depictions of injuries and younger doctors fresh from medical school being trained.

With the exception (maybe) of the younger training doctors, though I imagine doctors gotta learn, everything described there is a definitional part of a medical drama set in an emergency room. I understand the court letting this move forward because there may be good reason to explore the more detailed similarities. But the ones they listed there... that is baseless.

You cannot copyright a real world setting or genre. The subject matter of emergency room medicine is not owned by Michael Crichton, Warner Brothers, or anyone. Would be like saying the creator of Honeymooners owns the rights to domestic abuse. ER's copyright encompasses its characters, and specific stories. Not the entire concept of an ER or triage medicine. It did not create any of those concepts. It also doesn't own the style of narrative, pacing, editing, cinematography, etc. used, either.

It really is. Haven't you ever been trying to remember something, actively racking your brain to remember it, but it is completely lost. So you give up. You move on. Hours later, you're talking to someone about dinner plans, driving in rush hour traffic, weighing the merits of Chinese vs Mexican, every part of your conscious mind handling the moment. And then suddenly your mind goes "DUSTIN HOFFMAN PLAYED CAPTAIN HOOK!"

That wasn't "you", the person, the conscious mind. That was a you that works backstage. They had to go down into the sub-basement to the deep stores, dig through a warehouse full of useless knowledge for the right factoid.

I call mine Derek. Derek just ran back up the stairs kicked in the door and delivered the query results after being dispatched hours ago. That wasn't me that remembered that info. Derek did.

It's too bad Booker didn't win. Replacing the 84 year old white turtle corpse with a black democrat literally half of his age would have been so so sweet. He'd have been rolling in his grave on the way down.

It's the "Where is Thumpkin" song. It's to the tune of Frère Jacques, and you go through each finger holding them up and calling out "Where is [finger name]? (x2) Here I am. (x2, revealing a finger each time) How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you. Run away. (x2, hiding a finger each time)". The finger names, in order, are Thumpkin, Pointer, Tall Man, Ring Man, and Pinky.

If the idea of studying for a degree is entirely unappealing, then don't do it. You are more likely to waste money and time on it than to actually get any value from it.

My first suggestion would be to learn a trade. We have far too few people in the trades, and they are often some of the lowest bars of entry, and your upfront costs for educations are far lower and pay for themselves quickly. Something hands on, interesting to you and no where near as academic as college. You could apprentice as an electrician, plumber, or hvac installer or go to school for culinary arts, welding, cosmetics, drafting, etc. These forms of education may be more interesting as you are actually doing something while learning, and you can often walk out with a certification and a job offer.

If trade school isn't your direction, or maybe you'll do more education someday, but not now, get a job immediately. Any job, don't be picky. You can immediately job hop to a better opportunity when you find it. But don't sit at home doing nothing while waiting to find a satisfying job. There is good reason for that. It is WAY too easy to fall into a cycle of depression, self-disrespect, and feeling stuck when you do nothing for a long time. Been there done it.

I chose work over classes in college because I was broke. Failed out and moved back in with my mom. Lived in BFE, Tennessee for over 3 years, and had employment for about 4 months of that. My mom decided she was moving and I wasn't coming with her. Moved in with my dad and before I could get stuck in a new routine, I found a job washing dishes. And two weeks later I was hired for a factory job with better pay and benefits. A few years and a few job hops later, I was working in IT, back in school again to finally get my degree, and married. 12 years ago I was getting kicked out of my mom's house after 3 years of mostly unemployment. Now I'm 4.5 years into being an engineer, own a home, and have a wife, a daughter, and another on the way. And all of that started with getting a dish washing job at Steak n Shake. So I mean it. Don't be picky.

My point is this: stay active and gain independence as quickly as possible. Do not let yourself fall into a rut or it may take someone else giving you the boot to get back out of it. Get that shitty job. Pivot that into getting a less shitty job. Gain independence. Have your own life that you earn. And plans can and will change. If you decide to go to school later you can. If you can get a better job, do. And find a good, smart, and stable partner to share the load with. It makes things so much easier. But that does mean you need to be a good partner for them too, so keep working on you to earn them.

Anakin might be one of the better popular examples of how someone being failed from everyone around them, have their choices restricted and their will supressed, and that can lead their fall into fascist ideals.

He is born into slavery. He is rescued from slavery because he is told he is special. His mother is not special and so she is left behind and ultimately dies due to that. He lives with justified guilt and anger as a result.

The man that rescued him from slavery dies, leaving his reluctant protégé as his only real connection as a pseudo-big brother and mentor. He feels yet more loss and greif for this.

That mentor constantly places major expectations on him, telling him he is special and chosen, but also constantly criticizing his impulsivity and controlling him. He feels constrained.

He has a close association with power, but is always denied it himself even when he has contributed more than others. He feels betrayed and unappreciated.

He belongs to an order of people that tell him that all of these emotions and internal conflicts are wrong and dangerous. He feels dirty and hopeless.

He is told romantic love is off limits. He dalies in rule breaking, mainly in regard to that last rule. He loves a girl and she falls for him as well. The world doesn't implode. He starts to question the world view that was pushed on him since childhood.

A charismatic leader starts to give him attention, appreciation, and trust. He offers him power. He tells him that his feelings are not wrong, but strength. He tells him that he need not repress himself. He can seek that power, gain love, and ensure that he never loses anyone again. He questions everything for the first time and looks up to the man giving him this flattery and ideas of grandeur.

Then those in his order, specifically the one that most directly denied him the approval he sought and earned, tell him that this charasmatic man is evil, that his ideas that made him feel good about himself are wrong, and they attack this man. He is forced to make a choice between a highly moralistic, often hypocritical, and restrictive ideal, and the first taste of appreciation and power he has ever felt in his life. And on the spot, it is no wonder he chooses the latter.

It is obviously dramatized and he takes a real hard swing real fast with the immediate genocide of his entire order, including children, but... other than that, it is pretty realistic.

If Anakin had felt more accomplished and appreciated, less controlled, and free to love and live a happy peaceful life with his wife and kids, he would have been far less susceptible to the silver tongued fascist and probably wouldn't have made such a turn.

I am not sure how to fix this in the real world at any real scale, but to make sure everyone feels more appreciated, secure, and free. I'm certainly not justifying fascism or fascists' fall, btw. I'm just being realistic and seeking solutions to address it. I do think it becomes easier to fall for fascist messaging when the society, economy, and community are not healthy and supportive of all in it. But on a more micro-scale, I think all you can do is make fascism the less appealing choice for the individual. Make those at risk or on the brink feel loved and appreciated, even if you are very concerned by the beliefs they have started to take on and share. Make your boys and men feel loved and tie that feedback to simply being good people. Yes, I am saying to be less judgemental and give people a cookie for doing the bare minimum. It only costs you a metaphorical cookie and it may just buy you one less fascist.

I have been capturing wild children and feeding them rare candies, but they are just getting fat and sick. What level do they evolve at!? Or maybe they don't evolve with level? Do they need an evolution stone? Or do I need to trade them with someone else for another child?
