I’m sure they’ll give just as much respect to the preservation of your changes as you gave to the people’s property in the first place

Yeah it's really funny how he thinks this will do anything. The Antiquities Act goes both ways. He himself de-listed national monuments to open them up for logging and oil exploitation.

But let's say the next president doesn't de-list, cultural landscapes consultants will almost certainly agree on restoring it to a more historic pre-Trump layout.

He loses this one no matter what

He has shown no respect for any other declared national monument (such as Bears Ears) so why should anyone respect his declaration? Fuck him. Rip the gaudy gold decor out as soon as he's left, restore to the original design, and put back in a rose garden for good measure.

I'd say fix everything else he did first, meanwhile save the millions that would be spent renovating the WH. Also it would serve as a reminder of the whole debacle.

Save those millions? The next President has to live inside that house and preferably not be vomiting every single day because that just sounds inefficient. There is no possible scenario I can imagine where I'd move into that place with all that fucking fake gold in it. Keep in mind most other Presidents have been human beings with some semblance of taste and the accompanying gag reflex.

“I’m going to be signing a document which will make them into a landmark for the ages,” he told reporters in the gold-covered Oval Office.

According to the president, the proclamation would ensure the West Wing rooms would not be “touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people, in order to build something in a slightly different shape”.

I cannot express how annoyed I am at the insane levels of irony this man emits from every fibre of his being.

It’s too much. I can’t tell what’s real or if I live in some insane fever dream.

    Hypocrisy is a power move,

I can do this but you can't

Not that I think everything he does is hypocritical on purpose...

It is not like Trump has actual policy positions. Second only to immigration, a main election promise of Trump was "no foreign adventures" - and then went into a war of choice with Iran. A lot of his platform is literally owning the libs - which is mainly done through deliberate hypocrisy.

Every president has redecorated the Oval Office. Including trump. None of them have demanded that their decor choice not be touched after they leave. Except trump.

But to be honest, I’m just surprised he’s talking about leaving.

He won't be leaving voluntarily. He's not building that ballroom and golf course for the next guy. He was talking about after he's dead. He's starting to focus on his "Legacy," which he thinks he can save, even though he is already tightly ensconced as the worst president of all time, by a long ways.

It's not even close. The next worse president you could point to is maybe Nixon? And while Nixon was not a good guy, Trump makes him look like an upstanding citizen.

Jackson and Wilson were much worse than, and set the stage for, Nixon.

Jackson caused the single deepest, (by percentages, not dollar value because there were a lot fewer dollars back then,) longest, and worst depression in US history, while also overseeing multiple genocides. (Trail of Tears, The Long Walk, etc.)

Wilson on the other hand increased the power of the presidency to a tryannical degree, passed the Insurrection and Sedition Act of 1913, authored and pushed Southern Revisionism, segregated the Federal Government for the first time in history, and that's just some of the stuff he did here at home, much less instituting Wilsonian Doctrine, which is what changed the US into "The Defenders of Democracy™."

That being said, I don't think Trump was worse than Jackson or Wilson, but damn is he trying.

Thanks for bringing up Wilson in particular since a lot of people know Jackson was a shitter. Seriously I so wish the Republicans had back Roosevelt or Roosevelt had backed off of running third party, the US would probably be in a better place today.

I've said for years that if I had a time machine, I'd stop Hitler and the Nazis, as well as Stalin from gaining power, by going to the 1970's and picking up as much of the hideously unhealthy fast food that Taft never got to eat, take it back to 1910 and 1911 and feed his fat ass till he has a heart attack and doesn't screw up the 1912 election.

It's a public golf course in Southeast DC that he's trying to commandeer. At least I think that's what they're referring to.

If you don't know DC, the Southeast quadrant is the blackest part of the city. He illegally cut down a ton of trees, and a judge ordered a stop to that, but of course they ignored that and kept going with the destruction.

Interestingly, the course is public, so relatively affordable to play at and many of its patrons aren't white so, can't be having that!

I remember a early internet web app that let you customize the oval office decor like a president, choosing from pictures, statues, desks, etc. that the white house has collected over the years from previous presidents and and gifts given to them, and it gave the items history and whatnot. It is such a common part of entering the office that there was a browser game in the 90's about it.

I feel like ignoring edicts and proclamations Trump did should be automatic for the next administration.

  • source
  • hideshow 12 child comments

The first thing the next administration should do is have Trump arrested so he can finally stand trial for all of his crimes, then tear out all of the awful things that he touched and put pieces of them into the cell next to his like people kept pieces of the Berlin Wall. Just a commemoration of the end of something terrible.

Not possible. This will be a precedence. But Republicans will not view it as precedence that someone is held accountable for criminal actions, rather than persecution of the political opponent is fine.

I feel like breaking Trump’s proclamations should be enshrined as tradition. Every future president finds one of Trump’s orders, and ceremoniously violates it on Inauguration Day. Even if the proclamation has already been torn down by multiple prior presidents, they do it on ceremony, as a symbolic “never again will the country stoop to this level” reminder.

How many bugs do you think he got paid to put in there?

Fucking the whole white house is going to need to be taken apart and put back together (what's left of it..)

They should sell his plane to pay for it. We need to claw back with emoluments.

The best possible troll the newly elected Dems could do is pass a bill through house and senate saying that all traces of Trump's remodelling will be removed from the White House starting Jan 2029 when the new Prez is in office, also every attempt to put his name on public monuments will also be removed. Make him veto it and KNOW before he dies that it's all getting binned. With any luck the sheer fury he'll build up will cause him to pop a blood vessel in his brain.

Shouldn't be. Also, not the leader of the nation, just an executor of congress will.

The last few years have shown the problem with the system and how it was exploited.

I stand by my position: perhaps important as a job, buy in the end that person is just an employee of the people, a government worker.

Since almost all of it is Executive Orders, it literally can all be made null and void with a single EO from the next president.

I hope the next president makes an executive order to remove executive orders as a method of any real things being passed. Like, an executive order can be issued to recall a congress in recess, but not be issued for things that should require a vote, or start "super not acts of war" and/or eliminate it as an option. The clawing back and removal of a lot of BS presidential protections/immunity need to take place too. Checks and balances, with extra emphasis on the checks. No god damn kings.

Next president who’s not a fascist:

executive order: literally every executive order orangeboi made is now null and void. We can do it this way, or the pedantic way. I have a printer, and all you will accomplish is wasting a single day of my time.

Edit: honestly I would absolutely love it if that was the verbatim wording of the EO that accomplishes this.

I mean.. seriously. At this point in time, I want a dem president to pull all the same little levers this fucking loser and his loser cronies pulled to get actual good things pushed through for once.

It’s a dream, I’m sure, but it would be nice to see finally. Like, just imagine all the terrible things those villains used to get all the most horrible shit passed and done, but only used to make America actually worth living in. It’d make me cry.
