At first I was wondering how could there be such an over representation given the proportion of people in the population who are trans. But then I remembered that the trans community were given a particularly strong motivation to get involved in politics in the last decade or so.

You reap what you sow, republicans.

Wouldn't 1% of the house be around 4-5 reps?

I'm surprised it is all women! Is this a complete list? I can understand why transwomen would be more motivated to get involved in politics, but its still surprising to me that its 100% women.

I've been wondering about this, too. Why aren't there any trans men?

(Don't get me wrong, it's amazing that ballot boxes are repudiating bigotry. Just seems like something is still missing.)

trans is an adjective, you likely wouldn't say tallwomen

But 'trans-' (and 'cis-'!) is also a prefix. cf. "transnational", "transalpine", "transcranial", "transcode", etc. To be clear, I'm not saying we shouldn't insist on the space, but implying that it would otherwise be malformed or ungrammatical is a bad argument.

I assume Trans Women got socialized as men in their formative years of childhood, so no matter how much they might have not fit in they certainly got an underlying message of being capable, they didn't get corrected for being "bossy" or loud or demanding and probably got discouraged from being "submissive" in any way.

Even people who don't believe in gendernorms will enforce them subconciously on kids and male socialization is just so much more likely to produce people who ask and fight for leadership roles.

I am not questioning their womanhood in any way, just to be clear.

The downvotes are wild. Children are socialized differently based on the gender they were assigned at birth - that's a fact.

Growing up being called "bossy" does hell on one's ability to speak out for one's self. That shit turned me into a doormat in my teens, and enabled people to take advantage of me both in my personal life and professional life well through my 20s. Society worked hard to try to make me small and quiet, to put up with crap instead of speaking out when things were wrong. It's a mess that I'm still in the process of untangling, and I have little doubt many AFAB have gone through the same thing.

Though with all that said, I'd like to hear directly from transmen about their experiences in this regard.

"Male socialization" is very controversial and it's used to justify some bad stuff (and everything you said applies much more to me than to my cis sister, but that's anecdotal). I won't deny that trans men (two words) have a different upbringing than cis men but please focus on that rather than trans women.

Nancy Mace, the loudest transphobe toward Sarah McBride in the House, unsuccessfully ran for governor of South Carolina and so had to vacate her seat and will be gone in 2027. Buh-bye, bitch!

No. The obsession with people's junk must persist, but this time with suffixed with "(good)"

Like a casual "hey girl, nice cock!" And slap it to hear the metal coil doorstopper TwieieieinG noise.

Transwomen, almost universally, yes. It's almost categorical; generally wouldn't call someone a chaser you didn't hate them (or their behavior)... But transwomen aren't the only girls with cocks, and chasers aren't the only people who twieieieing them (tho they do always wish they could).

Someone in my medical team asked me why I changed my gender marker back to my AGAB in my medical records when I moved to Arizona a couple months ago. All I said was that "I didn't want to be a target" when I'm just trying to get medical care. I hope they see all the BS trans hate that was approved by voters this week and think of what I said. We are targets, and we do not deserve to be

Wife is the same. She kept all her documents AGAB, and appropriately thinks of them as β€œwig papers.” She won't bother changing them because 1) she barely needs to 2) the state should be destroyed, 3) comrades know she’s fempres.
It's more sad we are being targeted even here in 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone 😭

Which states have still never had a transgender rep? I want to lord over them with my smug sense of superiority as a Georgian, since the opportunity is so rare.

  • Everybody transgender. Transtifa for all. Pronouns in the bio or straight to jail. We have the best pronouns, people are saying.

In all seriousness I want a trans candidate on the debate stage in 2028.
