Okay but what’s going on in those few places that went more red than before?

    Gerrymandering.

Hilariously, it seems to have backfired in several instances for the GOP.

"dummymandering", when you design a bunch districts to win many small margins with a few large losses, and then lose many small margins instead

Because the number of districts won matter more than the number of people, because the politicians represent land over people

Looks like Polk County might be the only county in Florida to go more red lol. Which absolutely tracks as a former resident of that state

It's actually sumpter and Charlotte were the only two to shift right. Polk shifted towards Dems by 14 points.

All I know about Polk County is that it shows up a lot on Chris Hansen's new show. What was it like living there?

These days it's one of the most rapidly growing counties in Florida. It used to be all orange groves but now it's just endless stretches of shitty new build suburbs. I live in Orlando but travel around the state for work and Polk is an awful place to be.

Oh I never lived in Polk County. I grew up in Orlando and then lived south in Palm Beach County for a bit. Polk County was always a joke in Orlando as the most redneck area of the state.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherenkov_radiation

Cherenkov radiation (/tʃərɛŋˈkɒf/[1]) is electromagnetic radiation emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) passes through a dielectric medium (such as distilled water) at a speed greater than the phase velocity (speed of propagation of a wavefront in a medium) of light in that medium.[2] A classic example of Cherenkov radiation is the characteristic blue glow of an underwater nuclear reactor. Its cause is similar to the cause of a sonic boom, the sharp sound heard when faster-than-sound movement occurs. The phenomenon is named after Soviet physicist Pavel Cherenkov

Careful, if Dems have a majority and they do nothing significant with it, you'll have 2025 all over again.

This happened in France during François Hollande's term. The French people were fed up with Sarkozy's outraging reign, so we voted massively "left", only to discover that the French socialist party was applying... right-wing politics and economics (signing the entire party's death warrant), leading us to 10 years of neo-liberal/fascist Macron, who claimed to be a centrist (the equivalent of your Dems), capitalizing on both right and left voters' disappointment.

Pressurize your elected representative. Don't let them slip, or terrorize them into leftism. They're your elected representatives. They're your bitches. Treason to the People must be met with retribution.

Yep, this needs to happen. With the establishment today saying "we weren't elected to hold them accountable, but to fix the economy" (which the economy almost only ever means stock values to them, not how the average person is doing), they need to be pushed to actually do something. This clearly didn't happen in order for them to preserve the status quo, and they know that. Hopefully it's the dying breath of the corporate-owned Democrats.

Impeachment and getting even aren't priorities: They're framing one of the key things they were elected for as childish and unnecessary.

I'm actually a little stunned they didn't let voters enjoy the thought of whatever they imagined Democrats would do for a little while.

And this is why it’s difficult for me to get excited about voting for these motherfuckers. The election is over, can I say it now? I voted, I did my shit. We did the thing and elected them, and they’re already talking about caving and compromising with fascists.

At a certain point, if you’re still really into compromising with republicans, it becomes difficult to say you’re that much better than they are.

Yeah write you reps today. Call them tomorrow. Let them know what you expect from them. Let them know the campaign is over but the fight has just started.

Also tell them fuck no on Jeffries as Speaker.

I've always wondered why there's a hard cutoff right down the middle of the country when it comes to population density. I understand the reasons why the eastern half is more densely-populated but not the sharp, rapid dropoff. At first I blamed mountains, but from what I can see on a topographical map, the population cutoff does not align with the highlands in the area...

Yeah I'm hoping this election kills the "I live in a solid red state so there's no point in voting, I might as well vote third party" sentiment I've seen here.

Which is literally the opposite of what makes sense! I live in a state that strongly aligns with how I vote so I have the luxury of protests voting, and often do. If you don’t have the margin of error all you’re doing is working against your own best interests.

I believe it's a measure of red/blue shift at the county level compared to the 2024 election.

Well yes, but how is the shift calculated. Do they take the numbers from the house election, the senate election, something else, all of the above?

I believe this one comes from the House election numbers. It's part of an analysis/article the NY Times put out. I'd link it directly, but I think it's pay walled unfortunately.

The only thing conservative dems like Schumer and Jeffries understand is fear and violence. Without fear and violence (both), conservative dems will hand us right back to the fascists.

We are not done. Our party is run by conservatives who need to be aggressively removed. They will refuse to leave. They must fear for their lives in order to leave. And we must not be bluffing or they will call our bluff.

There is no peaceful way out of fascism. We must be willing to get our hands dirty to achieve freedom from conservative fascism.

Conservatives build concentration camps and brutally murder innocent people here and around the world while celebrating and bragging about it. Schumer and Jeffries are complicit. They are paid by the same oligarchs and play kindly with the other fascists. They cave on "negotiations" and deal politely with the murderers. They will never hold their GOP buddies accountable. AIPAC doesn't like infighting.

Conservatives are traitors and fascists. They will never, ever change. Never. They are still here among us. And if we don't very aggressively expell them all from government (including the neoliberal conservatives), they will send us back into fascism.

We need to treat them as the threat they are. We need to be willing to use the tools that are historically proven to work.

They keep pushing this to make us think we won something.

It was far from a "blue wave", more like a lapping at the shore.

Until we're consistently voting in a super majority of DSA into both Houses, we've gained almost nothing. That is what it will take to win this war by voting alone. If you think that's impossible, then maybe it is.

You are so defeatist. "We've gained almost nothing" in the face of the best election for socialists in america in history. This shows that what the DSA is doing works and that they are on an upswing. Why do you feel the need to somehow interpret this as bad news?

Yep. This isn’t the presidency. This is a shift away from fascism to neoliberalism on a small level with a sprinkling of the occasional progressive. All because fuel prices got high, not because people are caged in gulags or being shot by gestapo in the street. MAGA is upset their mallcruiser brodozer costs $150 to fill up or their soybean export trade deal got wrecked.

I cared about so many people besides myself for so long but now I’m completely fucked and none those people give a fuck. Thank fucking God someone cared enough about gas prices because it’s getting fucking hard to fucking survive.

Moving forward it’s selfishness because fuck that giving pieces of myself away to get nothing back.
