If they went straight to legal it means they legit don't know how to stop it. That's pretty damning for them.

First step would be to analyze the hack and the patch it so that the bypasses no longer work. I'm guessing the hack exposes a serious flaw.

the company claims that the accused bypassed its Anti-Tamper technology in at least 26 PC games and is seeking monetary damages as well as a court order that would prevent further tampering of its DRM

Considering that the main product they shill obviously doesn't work, I wouldn't keep my hope up on them figuring anything out

Standard corporate America right there. You proved our product is a sham and worthless? How dare you we'll sue you out of existence!

God forbid they step back and rethink their product.

There's a reddit thread about this and the person replied to it like

All is fine. Everything will continue as normal.

    😂

    Denuvo sues anonymous game cracker

I'm not a lawyer, but does habeas corpus not apply in cases like this...?

I don’t think so because the accused isn’t jailed, but I’m just a guy on the internet so I could be wrong.

I am coming to your location right now to serve you this court summons. Please provide me with your residence so I can serve you this court summons. It is unlawful for you to not help me find you and give you this court summons :(

Next watch Discord and Reddit bend over backwards to give Denuvo all chats and information about dozens of accounts that may or may not be connected to the cracker. Because that‘s something platforms seem to do these days without any backlash since „they didn‘t fuck MY privacy this time!“ Ugh.

And yes I am aware these platforms aren‘t encrypted and you should assume someone already reads everything you write and listens to every call. I still find it upsetting how openly they throw user data around without any backlash. Consumers have no spine to stand up for themselves with.

You are cracking a game and use Discord? Haha there's always a new lesson to be learned kiddo

The problem with finding good SM is that the platform itself matters very little vs where everyone you wanna chat with is hanging out at. Discord sucks; but it's where all the official shit for a lot of games are.

That is such a stupid expectation ngl and the fact that I hear it is stupid too,

If I write a letter to my friend and send it via snail mail, my expectation is not for it be taken open read by some random guy and go through it, innit?

I mean, not legally, but you should still assume that.

Anything truly secret should be communicated in ways that can't be naively caught.

I probably shouldn’t comment as I haven’t read the article (SHAME) but my assumption is this is the first step to compel platforms the cracker may have used to providing identifiable information on them.

I think I understand the approach.

Pro-consumer data/service companies have privacy policies where they don’t share someone’s info. The sole exception is when that person has used those services to break the law. The suit may have the intent of establishing that fact so said services consider providing the user’s info.

    Alleged? Lol

    They destroyed the denuvo drm.

I hope they go bankrupt. Why would any company pay for such an expensive drm if it doesn't work?

Just a question, but how easy is it nowadays to bypass Denuvo using LLM?

Does masterlock get to sue the companies that make lockpicks?

Come now, you don't need something fancy like lockpicks to pick most Masterlocks.

Seriously. Sometimes a twig or a small yellow mallet will suffice.

This is allowed because the DMCA sucks. It specifically calls out that circumventing copy protection is a violation. This also means that any company that adds protection also is able to effectively deny your right to make a backup copy.

This doesn't apply to physical goods where ownership actually has meaning.

U.S.C. § 1201 can be used against your physical goods too since it's so damn broad about circumventing DRM.

This is why your physical good like the good ol' Bambu labs was able to file a DMCA notice against OrcaSlicer fork.

The general idea is correct, but the Bambu Labs example is inaccurate. Bambu Labs incorrectly issued a DMCA takedown for the user interfacing with their GPL-licensed code. Bambu Labs are in violation of the terms of the GPL license.

Rossmann has several videos explaining this, and has offered $20K to fund the illegally targeted dev's legal fees. Bambu Labs is pretty clearly in the wrong.

A better example would be John Deere blocking farmers from fixing their tractors, or Apple blocking users from replacing parts in their phones. According to the DMCA, you don't own your tractor, and you don't own your phone.

    fit-girl 🤓

They use images of Audrey Tautou as their pic, and have stated in a few forums (back when) that they're not female.

Numerous newcomers to the scene still simp and refer to them as one, though. Because profile pics are proof of anything IRL, yep. 🙄

In fairness, their name is fitgirl not fitperson so I’d say it’s at least somewhat understandable to start with she/her pronouns.

So... how is taking text at face value any different from doing the exact same with an image? 🧏🏼‍♂️

One is a random/transient image, the other is a chosen name they identify with. People quite often put random anime/movie/show images as their pfp, they don’t normally put an explicit gender in their name. If you don’t understand how that is different, I don’t know that I can help you understand.

FYI, "fit" was slang for "attractive" long before it was short for "outfit", ergo the username is not an "explicit" statement of the user's/users' gender IRL. ☝🏼

To the extent that any username isn’t explicitly a statement of the users gender, I agree. But if I used the name “just some girl” as my username, I’d expect people to assume I was a girl. Same with “just some guy” assuming I was a guy.

The moment you put a gender into your username, people are going to roll with what appears to be a self identification.
