Finished God of War: Ragnarok!

This concludes the Norse saga, though the upcoming God of War: Laufey is a spin-off directly linked with this one. Can't wait to play that (though like always, I'll probably wait 4-5 years before actually playing it).

There is still some side stuff remaining, I am planning to go for Platinum, so doing that now. I was originally hoping to finish it during the week, but didn't get to play on weekdays at all, so will continue this in upcoming week. There are some pretty tough fights remaining. Hopefully will be able to beat those bosses.

Dropped Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?.

The game isn't bad, I think, but I just didn't like it. No special reason I can point to.

Started Celeste again.

Phelpssan mentioned it last week, so I started it again. I wanted to see if I could actually finish it now. Last time I dropped it at Chapter 3, there was a place in Hotel I was having problem with. This time I have already reached Chapter 4, and not stuck anywhere yet, so hopefully can go at least a bit further.

One thing I would like to complain about, is Phelpssan mentioned that game doesn't require precise platforming, and is more about finding the path to clear the level. To which I would like to say, Objection! the game not only requires very precise platforming, it also has sequences where you have to perform them very fast, or you die.

The game is really fun though, even when it was very frustrating. Only unlocked B Side for Chapter 3. For Chapter 1, I believe I explored everywhere but apparently missed out 10 strawberries. I was trying to get all strawberries, until I reached the end of Chapter 3, now ignoring some of the difficult ones.

Bought The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but since I will be traveling over the weekend and won't be able to play anything this weekend, I haven't started it yet. Hopefully will get time during the weekdays, otherwise will have to wait till next Friday to start this.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

In its financial report, Macronix said ROM fell to 5 percent of its sales. A year ago, it was at 26 percent. Macronix’s chairman noted that capacity is limited and is going to NOR and eMMC memory chips instead.

Analyst David Gibson, who shared the news, pointed out that Macronix isn’t Nintendo’s only game memory card maker. In other words, collectors don’t have to worry yet about physical games being phased out – at least not yet.

Nintendo still has other chip suppliers, but this is a noteworthy development I think.

I bought a DS about ten years ago during the peak Pokemon GO craze just to play HeartGold, and since I completely missed out on the handheld when it was actually current, I figured I would dive into the rest of the library over time. Most of it was an awesome history lesson, but a handful of games made me so genuinely angry I almost launched the console across the room. I have played a lot of video games in my life, but nothing compares to THIS specific, burning rage of having a hardware gimmick forced into core gameplay.

Take Wario Master of Disguise, which I just beat today (and hence needing to vent). I am beyond frustrated with it even after finishing it. Trying to scribble specific geometric shapes on the touch screen in the middle of an intense platforming section, only for the game to misinterpret my quick stroke and completely ruin my flow, is a special kind of agony.

And it is a whole pattern. The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass decided that traditional Dpad controls were illegal and forced you to pilot Link and swing his sword entirely with the stylus. Star Fox Command took an arcade shooter and turned it into an unplayable chore by making you draw flight paths and barrel rolls on the screen instead of just playing. And as much as DK Jungle Climber doesn't rely on DS gimmicks, I put it hear because it still fits into the timeline when Nintendo felt that we needed all our favorite IPs to be "fresh and different". And apparently peg swinging nonsense was the answer. That game made me rage as much as Wario.

It drives me crazy because when developers actually used the second screen as a sensible, auxiliary tool, the DS was an absolute joy. Look at Super Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros keeping classic button controls intact while using the bottom screen as a clean, realtime map. Look at Pokemon HeartGold and Golden Sun Dark Dawn using it for menus and inventory so you didnt have to pause every five seconds.

The second screen paved the way for how great dual screens and touch controls could be when used well. But man, forcing mic blowing, stylus controls, and shape drawing into an action platformer was complete idiocy. I swear Nintendo should never go down that road again.

If you got this far, thanks for reading this rant.

Finished Pikmin 1.

I took a day more than a guide and had to replay couple of days (including the last one) multiple times.

Overall, I love Pikmin and the idea of the game, but I didn't enjoy the actual game too much, mainly because time limits in games always give me a bit of anxiety, and I had to follow a guide and keep worrying about making sure I am not taking too much time, instead of just enjoying the game.

I think I would try to play Pikmin 2 without guide, and if I fail, I fail. Will try to keep an eye on the limit, but just play as I can. Of course it's possible I change my mind when I actually start it, but I think playing that way will be more enjoyable.

Played more God of War: Ragnarok.

Can't say much without spoiling the game, but with Zelda coming out at the end of next week, will try to finish it over the weekend.

Started Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?.

It's a side-scrolling platformer in the world of Disgaea. Played it a little bit but I am not sure about it yet, will need to play some more to make up my mind.

Over the past month or so, an exploit was discovered, allowing users to hack Nintendo’s latest console. This obviously has opened the floodgates, especially since the community has since shared that it’s possible to dump Switch 2 games and files.[...]

One recent example comes from @willfaustcuber, who was able to get Mario Kart World running on their iPhone 18 Pro and Mac.

Faust details that they were able to get MKW running on both platforms courtesy of a forked (and private) NXNative build. For the unaware, NXNative is recently-released command line tool that takes the original game files and prod.key and recompiles the files into an installable IPA file for iOS and iPadOS. It also does the same for macOS, with a minimal tweak to the compilation script.

heh-heh-heh...

Got the Switch 2 Zelda Edition and having a blast with Mario Kart World.

I was worried with all the criticism on Reddit, Lemmy and general on the internet that the game would be such a letdown but I think exactly because of the criticism and that I never really had any expectations that the game is now really fun for me.

I like that the races are a bit chaotic and really love the KnockOut Tour thing. I also like the new animations and the way the game looks.

The only two things that I have to get used two are; the racing feels a bit slower and that drifting seems a little different than the previous game(s).

As for the Switch 2 itself, its nice! But I’ll be purchasing these third party grips. The console feels non-ergonomic (coming from a Steam Deck).

Can’t wait until Ocarina Remake is released and a month or two later will be getting Tears of Kingdom (or Bananza).

I’m also slightly hoping that Nintendo will be making a sequel of Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad Tracker.

VGP wrote on social media about Nintendo’s game-key card policy:

“When it comes to game-key cards, all the publishers know exactly where VGP stands. Unfortunately, we don’t see much changing with most of the bigger publishers. As we’ve stated many times, we’d actively try to get existing game-key card titles reprinted as full-on-cart versions, but at the moment, there’s a Nintendo policy preventing that. That said, we’ll keep pushing, keep asking questions, and keep annoying them.”

Unfortunately, VGP didn’t share any information beyond what we’ve posted above.
