Question two: How do you afford bar drink prices?
Where I host trivia you can have a decent time for two hours with $20.
The way ours works is that it's free for the players and the bar pays the company I work for, so if you drink or not doesn't matter to me.
Back in my uni days I was on a pretty strong team, we'd win 2-3 quizzes a week, prize money, vouchers and free crates of beer made it pretty affordable.
Being young helps. When I was in my twenties, I could do stuff like that (within limits) and still be somewhat functional the next day. These days it's just not an option.
I remember taking an exam on 4 hours of sleep and acing it. Today, if I get any less than 6 hours I barely remember my own name. At 7 I am functional, at 8 at peak productivity
The dogs woke me up twice last night to potty due to upset tummies from a transient virus or whatever, so I got like 2 bouts of 2 hours of sleep max. I literally couldnβt remember my home address as I was drinking my first cup of coffee trying to get my day started with ordering stuff online.
I just had a baby, I am now very familiar with sleep deprivation and when it sets in! After a week of the baby waking me up every 2-3 hours, I literally couldnβt grocery shop. I was staring at the produce, then at my list, and neither made sense in my brain. I ended up buying random stuff because I knew we needed food, and somehow made it work until I could sleep a bit longer
Stuff like what? Are trivia nights all-night wild parties where you are?
I feel like there's very likely something I'm missing here.
Maybe not a wild party but definitely an occasion to have quite a few drinks.
I never went to a trivia night and didn't stay at the bar drinking with my team afterwards. Have closed many a bar that way. To me, trivia night for us out, but the main event was just hanging with friends.
Looking back, we all had drinking problems. Some still do. I know that, if I go to trivia night, I'm having three or four beers, and so that's not a Tuesday night activity.
I'm amazed at the shit I used to do. On more than one occasion I went into the city (there's only one the city in America) and took the 520am train home (narrowed it down for you), just in time for floor hockey at the local JCC at 750am.
How many drinks are you having that it's an issue? How late are trivia nights running?
I've not been to one in a long time but I'd probably have two pints and be done before nine. That might not be accurate, it's been fifteen years, but that's what I recall.
I'd typically be done before nine pints too π
Yeah, I usually have a couple of pints and am home by 8 if we leave immediately or 9-10 if we hang out longer.
I didn't hear no bell
I go to trivia that ends at 8
Boss would accept the work of hungover me over the work of sober coworkers.
Funny, my buddy just asked me to go to the bar, and I told him he was about 15m post pajama changeover.
Skill issue
That's why you go to a pub that does trivia on a Wednesday instead.. /s
But on a serious note, I just drink until I know 'hey, one more drink and I won't be happy tomorrow. And if I am still over, I just make sure to stop by the 24 hour store for Powerade, red bull, and iced tea (or I guess, your absolute favlure drink to cheer you up.) Of the 5 or so hang over mornings, I've only been caught once by reception because I ordered 3+ hash browns for a delivery time of the time I get to work
The pub trivia I go to on occasion is very chill. It starts at 7 and usually wraps by 8:30 at the latest and I typically have 1-2 beers the whole night. I get up for work at 5 and this still works out pretty nicely
Get a burger or other food (often discounted on trivia night) but don't actually drink.
No kids and a DD or uber. Final answer.
What a terrific question!
Because, like tens of millions of people, I don't work 9-5 Monday through Friday.
Since this is obvious question night, how did you get so fat?
