Look at the provincial parties in power across the country, it's nearly all conservatives. Then consider we would probably have Poilievre as a PM if not for Trump's 51st state rhetoric, and even with Carney it's basically still conservative policy we're getting. It's a nationwide thing.

Yeah, Carney is only a liberal because of the overton window shifting. He is a straight up con from 30 years ago

He's only "liberal" in the sense that he doesn't hate lgbt+ and non-white citizens.

Mainstream Conservative parties nowadays do openly hate lgbt+ and non-white citizens. If not enough to expell/"remigrate" then enough to make them all second or third tier citizens.

In case of Alberta, the premier is on record supporting the deportation of non-white Canadians, which is what remigration is. Marlaina and UCP are full blown white supremacists who support remigration.

Cons don't hate non-whites, that's their voting base.

    It really depends.

As I said earlier, Marlaina is on record supporting "remigration".

Most cons support and turn a blind eye to their racist base. Even if they don't outright say anything racist towards non-white citizens, their actions speak louder than words.

You know, I've met a few left leaning Indians, but very few. I suspect all the immigration from exclusively India the last 10~ years was for exactly the purpose of getting more Conservative voters.

It's not like we have been taking the best and brightest from everywhere lately.

It's not about best and brightest.

People in countries left of us don't want to move here as much as people in countries right of us. So even if they are left wing back home, they usually end up more right wing in Canada.

I agree, as a not-Manitoban I really like the things I've seen from him. I'd be interested to hear more from someone more familiar with how he's governing.

BC because Eby wanted to retire/listened to a colossal idiot for trying to take advantage of an unknown interim Con leader and the volatility of the cons.

What he should have done is gave people some benefits, waited for everyone to hear the inevitable batshit con ideas in their leadership race, then call the election when everyone has been bribed and the con factions(steal-everything neocons and religious insane) are furious at each other

Lowest voter turn out in BC history. Cons got 100k less votes than 2024, but NDP got 300k less. Turns out surprising voters is not a good plan.

I think the biggest miscalculation was assuming that having 2 conservative parties was splitting the vote and not doubling the exposure of the popular choice.

    because Eby wanted to retire

Is this some weird NDP cope for shitting the bed?

Moron could've just stepped down instead of pulling the stunt he did.

He could've let someone else take over. Instead he ran again and tried to win. That's a weird move if he genuinely wanted to retire.

Quite possible. Unfortunately it's not like they're proposing to put the money into a provincial high speed network, or even just a provincial network. They just want to take the money for the high speed line and redistribute it to roads, hospitals, education, and the crumbs might go to public transit within cities. But nothing to connect cities together. Whatever the provincial party in power, there's absolutely no plan beyond trying to have municipal transit networks as cheap and basic as possible.

Equating the PQ to the BC conservatives is crazy, the first thing the PQ announced was 3-week vacations and more funding to community anti-homelessness progams. The BC conservatives first announcement was appointing an O&G consultant to lead the government transition.

BC doesn't even have a premiere.

    Here's their legislative agenda.

    1. Anti-SOGI legislation for schools

    2. Repeal human rights code

    3. Privatize healthcare / insurance

    4. Authorize whatever Danelle Smith wants

    5. Saying retard & n-word is protected speech

Well yeah, that was my argument, the PQ is not perfect but generally good and economically more left-wing than any other provincial government, whereas the BC cons suck enormous amounts of ass.

The last government we had? Yea dude, the CAQ was bad in a way led to their total evaporation. The racism, the language police, the attempt to deny trials in any language but French, the removal of lease transfers, the inability to address any kind of real issue, the unnecessary and clumsy change to the immigration system that left a lot of people high and dry, etc.

    CAQ was dogshit.

Don't forget the driver's license website that was 3 years late and went from the original budget of $600 million to $1.1 billion. For a website. That didn't work properly. A lot of people's pockets got lined there.

I moved here two years ago, and needed to replace my Ontario driver's license with a Quebec one. I went to the website and requested an appointment to do this.

I got a reply 2 weeks later saying that they would inform me of the date of my appointment in 5 months. That's when they would inform me of the date, not when the appointment would be.

And the revised health website sounds like it was going the same way.

They were really pushing online voting this year, at least where I am. I did it after realizing there was only 1 physical polling station serving a population of 130K+ but feel like they probably lost a lot of the elderly contingent. Turnout was 30K-ish, though obviously not all 130K were eligible voters. But that feels low regardless.

Quebec is one of the most nationalist countries/states. They literally don't like people speaking the most popular language in the world.

Also: they're trying to etnocide autistics by the obligatory ABA (gay conversion therapy but for a different minority). What a great idea...
