This is a retake of my other meme as my original had an AI image that I was unaware of.
I'm getting old and soon I'm gonna get scammed by AI. I CAN FEEL IT! I can feel it about to happen!

Much better
Pipewire has fixed pretty much every audio problem I've had across both Linux and windows. Pair that with qpwgraph for a gui for controlling input and output flow, and you're in easy to fix audio city, baby.
At some point a rew months ago my work laptop running Fedora just started having shit sound for both recording and playback. My guess is some interrupt handler somehow changed and is now getting blocked by my disk or network or something, but who can say?
If it was my personal laptop I would spend a weekend sorting it out, but....
I pray, oh my doug, and I pray, every single day, for a revolution.
Put your nerdy where your mouth is!
I just installed mint on my girlfriendβs 2015 MacBook. Everything works except for the audio. I havenβt started troubleshooting yet because it was just installed last night.
Save me timeβhow do I fix it?
First thing to check is Alsamixer. Get on that mfugging terminal and type in Alsamixer and then hit the F6 key to check if Mint was just being weird and muted anything. I had that happen to me a few times where it muted headphones or speakers on its own.
If that alone doesn't work, it can help to check if wireplumber and be sure this is enabled.
systemctl status --user wireplumber.service
If it isn't enabled, then run
systemctl --user start wireplumber.service
And if none of that worked, I did find Pavucontrol worked pretty amazingly for me. I just downloaded it and it just worked to just
sudo apt install pavucontrol
and then ran
pavucontrol &
Lemme know if any of this worked. Since you JUST got it, I don't think it's anything too crazy.
What MacBook and distro? I had my 2015 MacBook Pro audio work out of the box with Ubuntu 6 years ago when I installed it. The only thing that didn't work right away was the webcam
I once spent a month trying to compile a kernel and sound driver for a SoundBlaster Gold card in Mandrake 6. I still have flashbacks to that time.
You know what, I'm good just sitting here in silence.
I had completely forgotten about mandrake, thanks i guess..?
Audio is one of the very short list of things windows actually handles better. I have a very nice DAC for my iems and on Linux it is stuck at sub cd quality. On windows I can go 32bit audio :/
Dear audio support thread
How do I get the headphones and line out to function on the x870 MSI tomahawk in pop os 24.04
Line out is not shown as a separate device to headphones jack
TAKE A DEEP BREATH! Take a deep breath! It's okay! I'm a trained professional!
Aight first, LISTEN TO MY VOICE, first we're gonna wanna open the terminal and type in Alsamixer. Now the problem is that x870 has multiple audio devices! Some might be named something like 'USB Audio" or even "Realtek ALC[numbers]"
Try to find a setting called "Auto-Mute Mode" and disable it!
If this doesn't work, the good news is like Mint, Pop!_OS also uses Wireplumber! Open up Pavucontrol, which I think Pop!_OS just comes with or at least my friend told me it did, go to the Configuration tab, find the USB Audio tab, and change the profile to "Pro Audio" and then wait a bit and then switch it back to "Analog Stereo Duplex"! This works because it just works.
Lastly it could be a bios thing. Get into the BIOS, go to settings, then advances, and then find the Integrated Peripherals and ensure that the HD Audio Controller is enabled.
And if none of that works, it could be that Wireplumber is borked up and I have what is called a pro-gamer move. On Mint, this ALWAYS works!
systemctl --user stop wireplumber.service
rm -rf ~/.local/state/wireplumber
systemctl --user start wireplumber.service
Take it easy, gamer.
Can you help my audio crackles whenever my CPU starts to do something resource intensive? Or with KWIN under Wayland lagging as well when the CPU also starts to cook itself? Breaking keyboard inputs and mouse. BTW this is when I intentionally overload the CPU lol. I could just switch back to x11 like the bitch I am though. But like I enjoy having a GPU rendered desktop and not going through x11 for everything.
Who wants to help me fix my audio issues?? π Not joking.... π
Hey Mr audio, I changed one of my Recording Devices in my Sound - System Settings from Analog Stereo Input (I think lol) to Pro Audio (for the lols) and it completely removed itself from the list... I have no idea where it went or what to search because I don't really know what I did.
Edit: I'm an idiot and for to include: CachyOS and KDE Plasma
So, I'm actually able to reproduce that and then had to fix it myself. π
The "Pro Audio" profile seems to be a PipeWire thing: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/FAQ#what-is-the-pro-audio-profile
I'm guessing, the recording device doesn't like that profile and just crashes right away. And when it has crashed, it won't show up in the list of available devices.
Now, how is that profile remembered even when the device disconnects? Apparently, a component called "WirePlumber" is responsible for that.
And it stores this information in: ~/.local/state/wireplumber/default-profile
If you don't mind losing your profile selection for other devices, you can just do:
mv ~/.local/state/wireplumber/default-profile ~/.local/state/wireplumber/default-profile.old
and then do a reboot.
After the reboot, your recording device should be back.
If you do mind losing the other profiles, then make a backup of that file and try to remove lines related to your recording device, and again do a reboot to test it.
For me, it was a device which had both input and output, and I had to remove both lines before it recognized it as unconfigured.
that worked, thank you very much!
I have another audio question that I will probably make a post later in a help community but on the off chance you may know...
I want to connect my headset mic and desktop mic to a combined input jack/device/whatever that I can use for discord etc so when I walk away from my computer I can flip down my mic on my headset and still yap... I've tried searching and youtube but haven't had much luck... qpwgraph also shows my headset is mono which could be an issue? /shrug
So, I'm not actually that deep into audio, but I believe, you need to do this: https://superuser.com/a/1827716
Direct link to the Wiki as well, in case superuser.com evaporates: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/Virtual-Devices#combine-source-selected-channels-and-sources
So, this will create a virtual audio device. And I'm guessing, you'll then be able to select that as your microphone of choice in KDE's sound settings.
At a LUG, helping a new Linux enthusiast solve their ALSA IRQ issues in '98, did indeed make me feel Hey-ya!
* It was lucky I had chewed through the exact same issue, 3 weeks before. Must have looked like a space wizard.
But I was told that Linux has never had any audio problems and I was completely imagining all the ones I thought I had.
So, someone got a good room reader (as in balancing speakers with pulse)? About to do it again.
I haven't experienced any audio issues in many moons... like long enough ago I can't remember... I know they were an issue 20 years ago.... but wouldn't say they were 5 years ago... of course I stopped distro hopping as often... and as I typed this I realized I still have an audio problem heh. Sometimes after a pause my audio comes back at a lower level for a few seconds until it fixes itself.
True! Helping somebody less experienced than you solve a problem is a rush. I've had the same experience helping people with 3d printing problems.
I still have the problem of audio delayed start.
After a while, of I start anything with audio whether it's an mp3 file, a video file anything on the browser, whatever, there's always like a whole second of delay before the audio starts
This drive me insane when I'm song audio editing.
I found this problem across all Linux distros. And this problem started happening in the last few (maybe 5?) years as far as I've noticed.
If you have a fix for that, that would be great.
I told claude i have a weird crackle sometimes. It identified some subsystem keeping s connection open, forcing small packets.
Fixed in a minute. Never anymore issues with that.
Is Claude a true linuxer?
Yesterday I gave claude remote access to my Chinese android car stereo. It was opening apps, taking screenshots, backing things up and decompiling them to check for malware. Now I'm going to remove everything unneeded like media apps and Google Play services to make the system faster.
I've had a few "holy shit" moments with AI over the past month or so that I haven't had since late 2022/early 2023. Crazy times, we are in for a ride...
So this is strangely specific but on nobara I have a second audio output slider for each application when I look at volume controls. Its not functional at affecting the volume of the app.
Any ideas?
And so I wake up in the morning and I look outside, and I take a deep breath and get real high and I scream at the top of my lungs "What's going on?"
I wake in the morning and I step outside, I take a breath and I get real high and I scream from the top of my lungs AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
With all the myriad problems I've had with linux, audio was never one of them. Hell, my android is worse with audio. Looking at this thread, I'm apparently very lucky
On the topic of audio. Does anyone know how to fix microphones in the game Squad? My mic works for discord and also in the steam microphone test, it just doesn't seem to register in game. I really want to play more of these teamwork based games but it is really hard to do so when I can't effectively communicate with the people in my squad.
I am on TuxedoOS with a HyperX Quadcast if that helps with troubleshooting.
Now if you can just make all the apps work reliably and get the screen stop flickering, I'll use Linux again!
Note that you will be blacklisted by nvidia because using nvidia gpus outside of data centers is forbidden
I tried for so long to get my motu 828es to play nice on cachyos. Ended up getting a nice focusrite since it is much more compatible, did a bunch of tweaks to get latency right down, and now Reaper just crashes for no reason after about an hour or so of use flips table
I've also not had great luck with MOTU devices (624, 8pre-es). Granted AFAIK, they're still not supported in mainline kernel, but I found a few kernel modules on github. Those kernel modules work in that the audio interfaces are detected and I can play audio, but after a couple mins (sometimes immediately), it sounds like I'm getting buffer under runs even if I max out my buffers. If I disconnect and reconnect the devices it will sometimes work for another few mins. They work perfectly on windows. My preferred DAW is also windows only, but I can run a windows VM and do USB pass through on the either of the audio interfaces (other is connected via AVB), and it works great. So this is how I do audio, but this also means I'm using onboard audio for everything except the windows VM.
I couldnt. Sound on my laptop is crackling, and sometimes just mutes if its on hdmi output, but no problem with the internal speakers
guys my motherboard audio jack makes a loud pop 16 seconds after the last sound was played π
Feeling this meme. I recently went through some hard times getting my Ardour/Jack setup working.
(Pro tip: Use Cadence.)
