What's really frustrating about Liz Truss is she is too stupid to understand how stupid she is. If she could wrap her head around that, she might just shut up and we'd never have to hear from her again.

let's see you become britain's second female prime minister.

    EDIT : OK, I guess

    1. The joke that she was already britain's nth female prime minister didn't go well
    2. Theresa May was britain's second female prime minister, truss was the third
    3. to be clear, she achieved nothing and to hell with her.

the joke is "oh, you think you're so much better than her? Let's see you achieve the only achievement she has (becoming the third female british prime minister) when you can't become the third of anything AGAIN.

I guess it all got fumbled and was shit to begin with.

Probably US Defaultism didn't help. heh. I watch panelshows so I know a little more news than the average, but it still whooshed me.

I think it wasn't so much poorly done as just didn't land quite well AND once anything gets a downvote or two, it snowballs. heh.

Thank you for explaining. I may not be falling down laughing, but I am quite amused. <3

Well, if the tories - and Truss particularly - had remained in power until then, I can imagine that a lot of people would be taking extreme measure to get away, so I can see her point.

They’d be sent up as indentured servants, as that would be many people’s only way of survival in perma-austerity. Those who got close to putting away enough company-store credits for the voyage back would find their oxygen bills algorithmically surge-priced upwards.

We know, and yet that is the choice regardless.

It suggests an as yet unseen level of dedication to ridding the universe of such a deeply offensive, absolute fucking cretin.

As a wonderful side project, we can see just how many despicable bodies we can physically cram into probably a SpaceX capsule, like a Tokyo subway train carriage. Musk, Trump, Vance, Putin, Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, Farage, and Milei can start the proceedings. I'm sure we can collectively suggest more.

It's easier if you do it at night.

Also, it can be done, despite it being hard: https://science.nasa.gov/mission/parker-solar-probe/

    good point, but still :

Parker will fly more than seven times closer to the Sun than any spacecraft. Over seven years, the spacecraft will complete 24 orbits around the Sun. At its closest approach, the spacecraft will come within about 3.9 million miles (6.2 million kilometers) of the Sun.

so it still orbits it, and won't get closer than 6 MILLION km

Usually, terraforming includes belching greenhouse gases to melt polar ice caps. Arrival with Charlie Sheen plays on this.

We currently are with fossil fuels.

I thought the goal of terraforming was to make the environment habitable for us?

In the cold and thin atmosphere of mars, greenhouse gases would make it more habitable, on earth reducing them and reversing their effects would be the goal of terra forming.

After terraforming Earth, we should begin the process of terraforming Mars by nuking the fuck out of its core to restore its magnetosphere. Doing this properly will take us thousands of years.

If we were sincere about terraforming Mars, we should push Deimos into Pheobes and maybe another asteroid to start a singular satellite. This’ll give it some tidal stress and start massaging it. Maybe nuking is an idea to explore in theory?

Liz Truss, I don't think I can stress, is a strange woman.

Despite getting the top job at the Conservative Party, her father was a left wing Academic, but she basically railed against everything she even considered "left". Pretty much everything that came out of her mouth as a politician has been pretty fucking insane from her front bench career to her running to be the Leader of the Tories.

The reason she remained as long as she did as Prime Minister was because the Queen died. Literally the last thing the Queen did of note was appoint her as Prime Minister at Balmoral (it's believed she knew she was dying and wanted to die at Balmoral because it was her favourite home). Because all politics stopped when the Queen died, she didn't need to do much of note, but the moment the mourning period was over, she took a fucking sledgehammer to the economy.

After this, before and after resigning she has...

    • Called the Bank of England "Leftists" (which is fucking hilarious) for reacting badly to her mini budget.
    • Blamed Transgender people for a KitKat Heist in Italy (No really).
    • Released a book called "Ten Years to Save the West" in which she claimed everyone was out to get her.
    • Basically became the Heritage Foundation's voice in Britain.

She's basically a mix of Donald Trump, Javier Milei and the parts of Thatcher that didn't make it to the papers.

The PMs after David Cameron are only in it for the power to feed their own ego and not about governing, especially the Tory PMs. Kier Starmer was not a great Labour PM but he's less egotistical than his Tory counterparts. Andy Burnham appears to be more down to earth but only time will tell.

IMHO most countries could still accomplish this. There's just no political will for it. Mars is worthless to most people before terraforming, and now we need to terraform Earth first. How can we expect to fix Mars if we can't stop ruining Earth?

There's that, but also, looking at the sort of people pushing hardest for establishing Martian colonies, they are all the sort of folks who would tell you how you can be advancing humanity on another planet, then deduct the cost of your oxygen consumption from your paycheck, if not just cutting off the air supply if you happen to get a little uppity about "muh human rights" when they want you to work 16 hours a day for some dumb idea they had.

The assertion comes in the former British prime minister’s new book “Bank Job,” which was published Monday and claims to explain “how the Bank of England broke the bond market and brought down the government” when her mini-budget in 2022 precipitated market turmoil.

    I understand.

Liz Truss infiltrated the Tories while secretly being a revolutionary aiming to develop the UK into Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism, but she made the unfortunate mistake of showing her hand too early by assassinating the queen three days in, which caused the bankers to realize what she was doing and coordinate a crash in a bourgeois conspiracy to oust her from power.

    It all checks out.

    [This is a bit, obviously]

I feel somewhat bad for her getting the glass cliff treatment, but then my pity evaporates when she continues putting herself out there, saying the most imbecilic things imaginable. She can't admit that her premiership was completely contrived and desperate on the part of her colleagues, and that she would never have gotten a look in under any other circumstances, and so she has to dream up conspiracies and dark forces to explain how she failed almost instantly. And the delusion simply grows the more her imagined self slams face-first into reality. She would have been the best if we'd just given her a proper chance, ya know?
