He has a 20-year history of sexual and violent offences, including crimes against children as young as four years old. Prosecutors say Buffalo’s risk to the community is unmanageable.

Just FYI, Reddit is aggressively pushing a lot of misinformation through /r/CanadianVisaReform, and frankly the NDP and PCs are echoing and it's pissing me off.

Namely, the "youth unemployment crisis", which isn't. Youth unemployment is at exactly the average level it has been for 50 years. There are a few periods where it was lower, just pre-2008, 2022, and a few others.

Despite all the vitriol, Canada's unemployment numbers are in completely normal historical ranges.

Now, that isn't to dismiss the cost of living situation, which yes, we should improve and we should fight for higher Canadian wages.

Hes not too concussed. He famously avoided conflict and the league started to treat him with special rules and he barely took a hit. His enforcers treated him like a goaltender out there.

Edit: but he is a well known severe alcoholic. So there's that.

??? The house prices, the loss of progress on wage, job loss illegal immigration, and now we have a new mafia in the country that likes to do political assassinations. It's not immigration people are against its the by product of unregulated immigration that hurt people. Even Karl Marx thought unfettered immigration is a tool used by the elite.

Hi. disabled person here. I can throw every government in Canada farther than I trust them when it comes to actually maintaining my standard of living. And I've lived through my own government doing exactly that.

At best, government support like UBI or disability payments is trauma. You're better off doing for yourself as much as you're able.

Most of the people complaining probably know someone who did. Picture, if you will.

    1. Employer hires someone for cheaper. Doesn't need to be an immigrant, but for the sake of what we're discussing, assume it is.

    2. Employer gradually reduces the hours of a current employee for pick your reason. Likely current employee is part-time because they have few protections.

    3. Current employee's hours reach 0.

    4. Current employee quits because well, they're not getting hours.

That employee has successfully been replaced. Legally.

Sure. New management means they can hire new people especially in a high employee turnover business like Timmy.

Most of the ppl complaining never had a job there to begin with. Can’t complain about losing what you never had.

I don't disagree with any of this. I will only add that seeking investment from around the world also puts global pressure on the US not to fuck with us. It was the promise of globalization and trade countries that depend on each other are less likely to attack each other. Canada unwittingly put too many eggs in the American basket, and is now trying change that.

Still, I agree with your point.

Ah, but that's where you're incorrect. If it's still culturally appropriate to fat shame someone for a legitimate medical issue, then doctors who do that are de facto not better than the doctors we have here. And I've had to report a doctor from Iraq on someone else's behalf who's been practicing here since 2024 for exactly that reason.

Not really. He has made clear his take on resilience is doubling down on neoliberal hollowing out of our economy. From privatizing public assets to erasing workers rights to side stepping environmental protections. Now he is opening the condo market up to foreign buyers to restimulate the speculative housing market.

We could promote resilience and sovereignty and continue selling resources without selling everything off to foreigners. Norway is an example.

If his hollowing out fails to bring economic growth he will face the ire of a tired, angry populace as we are seeing bubble up everywhere.

Tl-dr. Neoliberals selling us out for a promise of growth is not resilience or sovereignty.

Does anyone know more about the private foundation publishing this research, Safeguard Defenders? Where do they get the bulk of their funding from, and have any orgs done analysis on the quality of their reporting?

Based on my reading it seems plausibly legitimate. The precursor organisation China Action seems to have been pretty paragon, and the founder's previous work in gender equality curbs my suspicions of it being a right-wing anti-china grift.

The fact that the CCP doesn't like them is obviously true, but that could go either way for their work being factual or fabricated.
