OTTAWA — Some economists are getting worried that a string of job losses in recent months is revealing cracks in the labour market.

Statistics Canada said Friday that the unemployment rate rose two tenths of a point to 6.7 per cent in October. The labour market shed 4,700 jobs last month, the agency said, and more people were also looking for work.

Gee...perhaps if the MB Cons hadn't stopped the Dauphin UBI experiment early we would've been able to see that that would solve a lot of issues we are seeing right now, namely, providing people with purchasing power so our economy doesn't just grind to a halt.

but nooooo we can't have long term benefits if it'll mean a bit more spending in the short term. ugh. The answer is right fucking there

Hi. disabled person here. I can throw every government in Canada farther than I trust them when it comes to actually maintaining my standard of living. And I've lived through my own government doing exactly that.

At best, government support like UBI or disability payments is trauma. You're better off doing for yourself as much as you're able.
