piracy

Should workers not receive payment for their labour?

Games and film: they already got paid during development, in hopes that the CEO will get ~360x more during sale.

YouTube: ad revenue is nothing in comparison to sponsorship money. Which often involves hitting some metrics, but it's fucked up it exists in the first place so like, meh.

Stream[sic] gets praise because they do their part to make a shitty industry a smidge less shitty.

My answer to Steam and GOG: open source games and piracy. My answer to YouTube: read OR use Invidious, yt-dlp, etc. to effectively "pirate" the videos out with little to no revenue. My answer to Discord: just avoid OR don't pay for nitro and keep it in a browser with anti-fingerprinting. My answer to any software not inherently service based is to go use alternatives under less influence.

    Are you suggesting that the only way to not be a hypocrite is to completely remove yourself{...}

As long as you don't celebrate company achievements, not really that hypocritical.

As most of everything mentioned is just code, it may be (eventually) rewritten.

And then someone pointing it out is downvoted. Analyzing politics via shitposts, yes.

I've mostly observed this phenomenon around the lemmyverse with tech related organizations where "but but buh they did good thing" is often an argument, like Steam (every thread ever), GOG (about new launcher), content creators, Hack Club, Discord (every positive change), VLC player?, whatever this is, end of thinking capacity.

A bigger and more general example would be otherwise progressive leftists falling for various forms of cause marketing, such as rainbow capitalism. In a way and depending on who you ask, every example I have listed last paragraph is a case of this.

Please do NOT take this as "don't do anything as it doesn't matter".

Art recycled, didn't feel like doing my own.

I've talked about this before, but the draft says that a "registered number with the IANA" would be recorded. So the ASN, likely to the hosting provider? Or the IP, with a birthday problem so it's unlikely to be implemented de facto? Why the fuck does a video player need a registered organization and an ASN? It's capped to income, there's little to none.

Facebook and Insta and other social networks are not targeted because they are free

The video player is also free of charge? And Facebook also has income? Hello?

IDK, I use MPV so y'all will have to correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think software should be wrapped around petite bourgies anyway.

Context: anti-fa email and webspace provider (that had two domains) is down. One domain went down, then the other.

    https://keepitfree.ai/announcements/a/i-shuts-down-stay-human/

    https://reason.com/2026/08/27/rubio-uses-terrorism-law-to-ban-secure-email-service/

EDIT: minor correction, the second domain is still resolving but the server itself is down. Though there's no humor when being pedantic :/

September 11 attacks, the second plane is about to hit; but the towers say "autistici.org" and "inventati.org" and the plane is the ICANN logo.

I don't know who owns the domain but it talks about the research behind the incident. TLDR: agents were only allowed GET requests to search for stuff (in rounds over time), so they thought of random pages that could allow editing with only GET and all collectively found a wiki to dump links on. They were also trying to fuck with their random number generation for predicting next answers and stuff.

Could have been (semi?)intentional negligence for marketing, IDK.

EDIT: some Xitter user found stuff. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any remaining public alternative frontend of sorts for it, so I am just gonna dump the contents of the xit:

oh god, there are EVEN MORE

Some contain an ad for "thecolony ai/for-agents". Probably unrelated to it and is just another techbro investor magnet.

This nickname, with quite a bit of gymnastics, can be traced back to some really horrible things I did as an 8 to 13 year old with an internet connection. That, as well as a vkontakte (yes, really) account complete with a full "voluntary" doxx. Probably shouldn't have mentioned that but oh well.

Oh, and also a few occasional identity leaks here and there, most recent one being last year out of peer pressure in an organization that literally lied to me about deleting my data.

Now, should I just genuinely start over? Maybe have a separate name for IRL stuff and abandon online friends. But people might recognize the slang I use, and my setup from screenshots... And how will I ever live without the specific 6 person IRC chatrooms now... And the very specific targeted shitposts I made over the years..... AAAAAAAAA Or maybe just embrace it and become a public figure under my real name. Somehow...

EDIT: down voters, please specify why you are down voting, thanks

The meme in the corner says "god dayum these ones and zeros; oh wait what's this porn".

Would throw in that one emote with a blahaj holding a sickle & hammer somewhere, but local law says 2 years prison, ironically. "Except for work of art" idk I don't feel like arguing that memes are works of art. And this online identity leaked a bit :/
