This really isn’t new. Tons of stories stretching back to the Middle Ages of dudes joining monasteries to hide from/attempt to mask their crimes. Abrupt religious affinities have long been used by people to try and avoid consequences of their actions. A true Christian is one who would recognize that repentance involves accepting the consequences of one’s sins and finding effective ways to make amends.

I’d like to believe that Brand has had a genuine change. But as Jesus Himself teaches, it’s what comes out of a person that either defiles or purifies and that we will know a person by their “fruit” (meaning their actions). If his “Christianity” is an elaborate sympathy ploy or selfish attempt at skirting real consequences (“see, I’ve confessed! I’ve made a change in my life to be better!”) then it’s about as genuine as the gold pockmarking the White House right now.

My local theater had that (before the theater shut down)! It was great. I left Thor Love and Thunder to a note stuck to my car from the Tesla owner next to me asking me to plug him in when I was done (it was a free charger to boot).

What’s funny about this GIF to me is that his name has, by my count, only been said twice before I saw this. And in the movie this is him getting ready for Lydia to say his name for the third time.

Not sure if this was intentional, but it’s pretty great regardless.

Tbf I think they’re basically taking fairly generic algorithmic models for photo editing and voice-to-text and slapping the “AI” moniker on them for marketing/funding purposes. I played with a 4a Pro at Best Buy the other day and the “AI” seemed about par for the course with what my iPhone 16 has (I’ve not updated to iOS27). The option to add Gemini and stuff was there, of course, but the “essentials” stuff was basic.

The Glyph is cool. But not enough to get me on board. It just felt like I was given a veneer of something different but once you get past NothingOS it’s really just Google all the way down.

I know we're bullshitting here, but my inner pedant can't help himself: Jesus was born in Roman-era Galilee, at a time when most people spoke Greek and various forms of Aramaic. Jesus is the Anglo-fied rendering of the Latin spelling of the Greek version (Iesus) of the Hebrew name Yeshua (which could also be translated as Joshua or Hosea).

Wow, I haven't seen this site in lo these many years. Good on ya, son (though I'm guessing that, since you know about this site well enough to call upon it for reference purposes, you and I are probably the same age)

Picked up my "sick" daughter from elementary school. FOR THE GLORY OF THE EMPIRE!

(EDIT: Though I suppose the answer here, and for all of us, is "made a comment FOR THE GLORY OF THE EMPIRE FOR THE GLORY OF THE EMPIRE")

Hear! Hear! I was excited about the prospect of a Razr with Graphene, but then I saw the news about both costs (and also that foldables just kinda suck in terms of longevity). I was kind of between a Nothing 4a Pro and the Fairphone 6+ with /e/OS. I'm sold on the latter. The Nothing has a cool design, but it's still pretty locked-in on Android and a bunch of AI crap (even though it seems minuscule and optional). The idea of a completely repairable phone appeals to me. Plus I can print a clear plastic back cover for the thing to re-live the glory days of my clear teal and purple Motorola pager.

You can just feel the ten years pent-up emotions in the original. Almost like the daughter just kept a draft message to her mom going, adding some mirror-MAGA-slop* thing to the text field every so often, just waiting for the right moment to open the flood gates. It's a form of garish elegance.

(* by this I mean this is the aesthetic of the sort of boomer-ish pro-MAGA crap that gets randomly sent to their kids, but obviously not MAGA itself. It has such a "see how it feels, Mom?!" vibe to it)

The only games I ever used cheats on were games where I wanted to experience the story of the game but found it to be prohibitively difficult to get through (Silver Surfer for NES and Einhänder for PlayStation are two that come to mind—I used a Game Genie and Game Shark respectively). One game where it was the opposite was Grand Theft Auto 3 (and Vice City). I have never actually played the storylines of those games. I just really enjoyed pulling rampages and wandering around. So I’d employ cheats to do that.

I think a big part of this is also: a lot of these Tradwives started that crap when they were YOUNG!

I went to a pretty conservative evangelical university from 2003-2007. A lot of the women I went to school with got married while still in school (at like 19 or 20 years old) and had a kind of tradwife outlook (before the term existed) and now many of them have rejected all of that. And the catalyst, in a lot of cases, was just growing up. Big difference was that they didn’t have social media quite like we have today, where your dumb twentysomething ideas and lifestyles are broadcast all over the world and come to define you for all time.

One example comes to mind: Joshua Harris and his book I Kissed Dating Goodbye. The thing was enormous in the evangelical world in the early 2000s and youth groups and young adult groups were getting it pushed at them. It was all about “courting” instead of dating and pressured people to get married if they wanted to have sex. A ton of my peers who bought into it had horrible marriages are now divorced, in many cases due to infidelity. Joshua Harris, almost a decade ago, himself got divorced and issued an apology for the damage he caused. But here’s the thing: he wrote the book when he was TWENTY-ONE YEARS OLD! No one who can barely legally drink is going to be an authority on marriage.

I think we’re going to see a lot more Gen-Z MAGA types growing out of the movement. Especially women.

The idea of God being non-binary is really one of the oldest ideas in theology—even Christian theology. This should not be controversial in any way. But here we are.
