I saw “cuckcoding” recently too, and I was greatly amused by the term

I mean, I use a local LLM in much the way I would do pair or partner programming with another person... one person is in charge but the other is actively reviewing, checking for problems... but then maybe you both switch at a point where one has a different kind of idea, or one person is totally befuddled.

So... that's not the same as just 'chatgpt write my entire codebase'... which yeah, basically is just sitting in the cuckchair...

Maybe the way I'm talking about is more like an active threesome, somebody is analagously the unicorn, I dunno, hahaha!

There are a LOT of people who simply don’t bother to check the output of Claude (or <LLM_OF_CHOICE>).

Source: I’m dealing with an absolute firehose of vibe coded PRs from our contractors right now. I swear to god I’m just conversing with their Claude processes. They are very clearly not only not checking their output, but also just responding to PR comments with Claude. I’m getting very close to just making PR comments as if I was directly addressing my own local Claude process, including feedback loops and doc cross checks and so on, which they’re clearly not bothering with. They’re not even vibe coding well.

Does their manager not ask them to explain their code? Won't they get fired if they have no clue what they're submitting?

    Don’t I know it.

I have personal reasons for sticking around. But the biggest ones at this point are how shit the job market is currently, and the fact that I get a sabbatical next spring. After that hits, assuming the job market recovers a bit, I’m planning on fucking off.

At the end of the day, as frustrating as management is, I can usually work around it, and the mission (increasing effectiveness of cancer treatments) is still bar none the most fulfilling goal that I’ve participated in over the course of my career to date. But still, yeah… some days, it’s really frustrating.

  • Honestly you should they're literally uploading your comments into claude and copy pasting claudes answer back to you. If your company is efficient a lot of thwm are gonna get laid off and you can just run ten claude agents at once instead of paying ten morons a salary to have claude do their job for them.

I mean... you can't vibecode well, nobody can, your example here well illustrates that.

Vibecoding -> the magic machine operates via special incantations, and that makes me a magician!

AI-assisted coding -> Ok this hallucinating genius dumbass ram devouring monster is simultaneously very capable in some ways and horrendously stupid in others.. if I am very gentle and precise with it, as one would be with a toddler, it may be very helpful, but I can never assume it may not have a critical and fundamental incomprehension of some kind.

LLMs are clearly useful, in the right hands.

They're great for a senior or mid level dev to use as an extremely fallible assistant.

They're good for junior devs to both learn some basics about code and also some basics about how LLMs are not magic.

Like, plug a junior dev into an LLM and then the ask the dev to review the resulting code.

That's not a bad way to train up a junior dev.

... But this shit isn't production ready just because it involved an LLM at some point!

    Its literally all experimental!

C Suite and Managers are just fucking idiots!

    It is just that simple!

They don't want to do their jobs anymore, and they fell for marketing hype.

I'm genuinely less mad at dumbass but eager vibe coders caught up in a delusion... they're disproportionately inexperienced, they wouldn't really have a way to know better.

The dumbasses in charge that are cramming the kind of workflow and workforce setup you describe down everyone's throats?

These fucking idiots should know better.

They basically could not be more perfectly incompetent, and they should be roundly laughed at and openly mocked as the idiot clowns they are, to their faces, all the time, everywhere, including work settings.

Literally the survival of the human species may depend on our ability to point out and identify to these people's faces that they are in fact complete fraud morons.

    Currently, US policy is effectively:

Destroy 1/4 of the world's access to oil.

But also, at the same time, build so many AI datacenters that they would require a second Germany worth of power production to run.

Also the US has essentially zero capacity to natively build new power plants and transformers, we would have to import almost everything needed, and we're also doing a tariff tradewar with the entire planet.

And, 90% of companies report 0 or negative productivity returns from using AI.

....So basically, constrict energy supply, increase energy demand, and use this energy to mostly just literally directly create massive heat islands that do basically nothing for the actual real economy.

The plan is literally 'throw gasoline on the fire, and maybe the gasoline will become sentient and tell us a less stupid way to do things.'

... this is a long way of me saying 'yes i agree with you'.

They were also using who-knows-what LLMs in a biotech context when we have specific regulations against using general use/commercially-available LLMs. We have rules against that for IP and HIPAA reasons. I’m genuinely baffled at how they didn’t get into Big Trouble for that.

The landscape has shifted dramatically with the promise of big profits from higher productivity / labour cost reduction. Corpos used to be pretty strict with policies against putting proprietary code anywhere external. Now it's all like - yeah shove it in all these third parties' mouths, including sometimes competitors, it'll be part of your perf review. It's crazy. I don't think any of this is going back to the previous posture. The profit growth promise is too great.

  • source

I just had a conversation about common confrontation-averse social norms/behaviours which are considered generally polite or courteous, and how damaging they can be to relationships between people. This is a good example of that.

It might be considered polite or courteous to say nothing, but in doing so you'd be enabling your friend to unwittingly annoy you repeatedly by sharing a non-mutual interest, which only erodes the net positivity of your friendship little by little. I'd bet that your friend is sharing these garbage amalgamations of sound morphed into something resembling a musical arrangement (like a freshly birthed greasy unit of bologna, haphazardly moulded into a lumpy homogeneous sculpture vaguely resembling a six-fingered mutation of Michelangelo's David) simply because it's something that brings them enjoyment, and they just want to share that enjoyment with you.

If you break the pattern of toxic courtesy by just being honest and letting them know that you aren't interested in hearing any of it, you'd be saving yourself from allowing your friend to (again, unwittingly) annoy you several more times, potentially lowering your overall perception of the friendship to a point that creates distance between you.

TL;DR be honest and tell your friend that you don't like AI-generated audiobominations. But of course keep in mind that there's a fine line between being honest and just being an asshole.

So cocksucker, a homophobic insult is okay to be using?

Wasn't going for bigotry by any means. Just that language is fluid. Never considered that cunt or cocksucker could be offensive in a gender/sexuality way, because I've only ever seen them as insults. Maybe asshole would be more inclusive to everyone, but language takes time to evolve I guess. If I ever unintentionally hurt someone with my language, I would simply apologize and take into consideration why it hurt them. Nothing hateful by any means

Edit: unless I'm trying to be hateful, but then I probably wouldn't use such terms... I would become more poetic about their ignorance and momma

Its about as 'bigotted' to intentionally and explicitly do an equal opportunity insult as it is to guess that someone who says 'cunt' is probably from the UK or AUS or NZ.

Look, I'm not trying to hurt anyone with words. I'm sorry if I come off that way, and I'm certainly not trying to argue against good intentions. The way language do be and toward the people you meet... someone's getting hurt. That doesn't mean we can't try to be better... but we can also cut each other some slack. If it truly offends you, I'll stop and I'm sorry. If you're just trying to prove a point... I hear you. If you're trying to be correct... good luck my friend

The point was that language has not yet changed enough to erase the homophobic connotations of cocksucker from living memory. But if you love calling people cocksuckers so much, go on ahead—I ain’t your daddy. (It sounds like it’d be excruciating, honestly.)

Maybe it's from a watching too much Deadwood but "cocksucker" has taken up permanent residence in my brain and I can't dislodge.

The way I justify it to myself is that, no, there is NOTHING wrong with sucking cock, but it shouldn't be your primary form of interacting with others, especially to people superior to you.

So when I say "my organization is full of cocksuckers", I mean to say that everyone owes their position to ingratiating themselves to the person above them, aka polishing knobs, and very little else--applying equally to women or men.

But, yeah, if someone were actually a gay man, I'd definitely not say that about them specifically.

Feel free to offer an alternative that offers the same deprecatory contempt. I'd offer "shit eaters", but it doesn't quite have the same ingratiatory overtones.

At this point, I think most non uptight people have taken to using 'knob slobberer', 'ball fondler', 'bouncin on that thing and doin tricks on it'... etc... mostly as just a sex/gender/orientation independent ways of saying you're a simp, you're a sycophant, you're a toadie, something like that.

(Most people have a mouth and at least one lower orifice of some kind and a hand or two)

The idea is that you're overly subservient, not that you're any kind of orientation.

Yeah they're still used by bigots as bigotted slurs in some contexts, but just broadly, society has gotten measurably more comfortable discussing sex, in any context or capacity.

Maybe another comparable thing is like how 'you guys' has basically become gender neutral, in many contexts.

Like, I'm a bi dude, and if somebody who knew that about me called me a fag, half in jest, I'd probably respond playfully, not... insulted and indignant.

Same with queer... that's not even an insult to me in any way, its just a ... factually accurate description.

Sure if you use those terms with clear derisive invictive (invective?), then yes its a bigotted insult/slur, but... yeah context matters, there are many other contexts where I wouldn't find those terms insulting at all.

Like at least to myself personally, cocksucker is an equal opportunity insult roughly the way bastard is... it implies duplicity, perfidy... not sexual orientation.
