No, you definitely die directly because of the bullet, which came directly from the gun, which was directly fired by the cop. Things don't just happen, there's nothing "technical" about this view, just ignoring causality.

In the same way, this war is raising gas prices not just because it's a war but because it's directly affecting global oil trade. That and all the other consequences are directly caused by trump and bibi deciding it was time to bomb Iran.

Are you saying that you can estimate fractional lengths by eye better in imperial than in metric, or that using a fractional measuring device is more precise than using no device at all? Neither option seems like a good point tbh.

But let's entertain that since imperial is a fractional system it makes cutting fractions of foot-long boards easier. For 1/6 that's 2", very cool, mission accomplished, much superior than 16.7cm. But what if you need to cut 1/5 or 1/7? Now you need to work with 1/32" subdivisions while metric stays the same and allows you to keep working at however many decimal positions of accuracy the job requires. A 1/7m board can be 14.3cm if you're going to use it as timber (or even 14 for that matter), or 142.86mm if it's for aerospace applications. Unless I'm not allowed to use any measuring device, because reasons?

Fractions and bases don't relate to each other in the way you think they do

Yeah, and their unknowable secret sauce to win capitalism was to not overdo it and enshittify. Wild stuff. Who could tell that keeping your userbase happy is more productive in the long term than chasing "growth" at every turn?

I was checking my Pi-Hole and noticed a lone spike of 700+ requests coming from my phone (Android 16) this morning. Upon checking the logs, it's all bogus domains corresponding to package names of apps I have previously installed via the Play Store, but never on this phone.

Going further back in the query log, I realized it also includes the package name of an app I developed years ago but never published on the store, nor on this phone. There's also a whole bunch of my browsing history apparently, domains I haven't visited in years - from the age of some of them I'm pretty sure it's Chrome history, as I only used Firefox sync for a brief period and my local history is <1y.

What the actual fuck? This is a Nothing Phone 3a, updated to Android 16 just a couple of days ago.

Found this while surfing the webz, thought you might it as interesting and amusing as I did. Hopefully it's not too OT.

It's a mix of piracy history, code golfing, free speech activism, art, digital community, and general ingenuity that ends up being a critique of digital copyright under the DMCA. Also found the quote at the end of the table to be sadly still very relevant.

As long as I am mayor of this city [Jersey City, New Jersey] the great industries are secure. We hear about constitutional rights, free speech and the free press. Every time I hear these words I say to myself, That man is a Red, that man is a Communist. You never hear a real American talk like that. -- Frank "I am the law" Hague (1896-1956)
