I figured it was goon posting accelerated by AI, but then I came across this and am now convinced Malfoid is what Harry Potter should have been.

Is it still goon posting? Yeah, for sure. But, there's something more in the twist.

^This. This. And this. I wish the blue tsunami was an awakening of the American people who have learned their lesson from their brush with fascism. They realize human rights apply to all humans, that the rule of law is fundamental to a functioning society, that capitalism needs guardrails.

They didn't. They voted to oust the party who impacted them personally. And if gas prices and interest rates go down a bit, they'll be right back to their usual identity politics.

I was wrong about the midterm. I didn't think the Dems had a hope in hell of winning both houses of Congress. I hope I am wrong about this and Dems get off their asses, work to restore rule of law and immediately shift to real governmental reform to prevent this kind of slide to fascism and corruption much harder. We have done it before, so that gives me hope.

Ever rolled paint on a wall with old paint and a linty roller? I have, and spent months running my hand on the wall and then picking at the tiny bumps in the paint. It became a habit, borderline compulsion.

Fast forward, invited to friends' new house for Thanksgiving. Guess they had the same shitty paint job. Proud owner of new house confronts me as I'm absentmindedly picking tiny chunks of paint off his wall.

I'm an asshole, but I'd do it again.

€1.900 is $2,133 in American, according to a quick Google ask.

Agreed. Can't justify spending that on a phone. And unfortunately, many others will feel the same, which will result in low sales and it being declared a failure, putting another nail in the coffin for privacy focused consumer products.

    Hahahahahah... Oh, that's rich!

Downvote me if you must, but just go see Minority Leader Jeffries's comments downplaying the agenda most of us think should be priority... Like finally holding government officials to account for pedophilia, corruption, and treason. Apparently that's too "revengey" for their billionaire handlers.

Don't judge 'em until you get two data points. As a Texan, my perception is that this isn't a sudden awakening. It is revenge voting and we'll be bright red again as soon as the Dems drop the ball.

My recently widowed father (72) is planning a trip across the country to meet a woman who he claims called him by accident and with whom he has since built a romantic (remote) relationship. Here's what he's shared with me:

    • He received a "wrong number" call from a woman that led to a number of other conversations online and on the phone that started to take on a romantic tone.
    • He believes she is real because he has checked her out online, including validating that she is indeed the CEO of her company, is 40 years old, and is originally from Taiwan. Haven't seen this myself.
    • She says she runs this company with her brother in Canada and her father back in Taiwan. The details of the company were not clear to me.
    • They have exchanged photos but not video because her webcam is not working.
    • He is planning a trip to Los Angeles (from the East Coast of US) in a few months to meet her in person. She said her driver will pick him up at the airport.
    • No money has been asked for or sent, according to him.

This is obviously a scam, right? But, without there being an ask for money I can't figure out the angle and haven't been able to convince him to disengage.

It is either going to be an ask for money to help her overseas family or a "can't lose" investment in her company. I'm guessing she'll back out of the travel plans last minute so they never meet OR he's going go there and have his organs harvested.

Does anyone recognize this scam? What should we expect next? Has anyone else successfully talked their elderly loved ones out of one of these?
