Nobody should be surprised by this. Every Republican I've ever known on this planet says these exact same things when they feel they're safe, every last one.

A highschool friend of mine is of the Republican peruasion, or whatever equavalent my country has. Some weeks ago he was having a game night with his footbal friends. During the night he was sending pictures in our group chat. We could see mount beercan growing in every picture, but it all looked like a fun night so far. Until some point when the picture of the next board game didn't show a board game, but it showed a copy of mein kampf on the table. And he was making inapproriate jokes about it. One of our group is jewish and he took offence. The drunk, republican friend than quickly deleted the picture and appologized. But the damage was done. He had shown his colours.

Mein Kampf itself isn't an issue. I think people should read it so they understand how absolutely stupid fascism and Hitler were.

Holding it in anything other than complete disdain after reading it though, that's a paddlin.

The people that listen to trump speeches and think they're anything other than batshit insane won't find anything wrong with Mein Kampf either. From the parts I've seen it's similarly incoherent, just with better grammar.

Once again, it is not hyperbole to say that Republicans want to kill you.

Once again, if you are physically and mentally able, you should be arming yourself to the best of your ability for the day when they are emboldened to act out their violent delusions en masse. And that day may come sooner than you think, as it has with every fascist milestone thus far.

    "apologies":

“While I take complete responsibility, I have had no way of verifying their accuracy and am deeply concerned that the message logs in question may have been deceptively doctored.”

“There is no excuse for the language and tone in messages attributed to me. The language is wrong and hurtful, and I sincerely apologize,”

Still leaving the door open for deniability.

And it's nothing new. The Young Republicans group at my university were all equally shitty people. The only difference now is that they don't feel the need to be as cautious and guarded.

Bobby Walker, the vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, referred to rape as “epic.”

Let me guess, he's going to look like a fat loser with daddy money behaving like "her knees are too pointy"?

    Checks image

    Ding ding ding!

And no, not fat shaming this turd, this is a guy who is well over weight because his daddy gives him everything he wants.

You're barely 20 and you're already bottom of the barrel scum. Impressive.aa

Having said all of this: this fuck yard is the real deal in his wishes; he'd happily see you raped or brutally murdered because you dated to disagree with him

Should this ass-hat ever feel safe again I'm the USA? Or the entire world, for that matter. Left to his own devices I find it hard to believe that he won't directly or indirectly murder someone within the next 5 years. This guy's face should be plastered all over the news and billboards so that people know what he is and how he thinks.

But instead we just screech about having to check genitals when entering a bathroom

It really bothers me that Politico doesn't make it clear whether the censoring was present in the chat, or something they added

the members of the chat slung around an array of slurs — which POLITICO is republishing to show how they spoke. Epithets like “f----t,” “retarded” and “n--ga” appeared more than 251 times combined.

Really seems to imply the people in the chat self-censored, and at no point did Politico state they were the ones censoring. The inconsistent censorship also means either the group was self-censoring, or Politico is doing a poor job ("r---d" is censored, but "rape" was repeatedly not censored)

  • source
  • hideshow 1 child comment
  • [–] 4 points 1 year ago

I highly doubt that group was self censoring. It's just inconsistent censorship by politico. "Rape" is not a commonly censored word, like the slurs are. I would have no expectation to see the word "rape" censored, it would be like censoring the word "murder."

They referred to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people” and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

This is how Republicans talk all across America. This is what you've heard if you have MAGA relatives. And they're either unrepentant or they say it's just a joke. 10 years ago this would have seemed topical to me. 20 years ago I'd have thought it scandalous. Right now I'm just curious why such unserious people thought they could maintain a private chat.

Hendrix made a similar remark in July: “Bro is at a chicken restaurant ordering his food. Would he like some watermelon and kool aid with that?”

Hendrix was a communications assistant for Kansas’ Republican Attorney General Kris Kobach until Thursday. He also said in the chat that, despite political differences, he’s drawn to Missouri’s Young Republican organization because “Missouri doesn’t like f--s.”

Giunta also had expletive-laden criticism for the Young Republicans in states that were supporting or leaning toward Padgett’s faction.

“Minnesota - f----ts,” he messaged, continuing: “Arkansas - inbred cow fuckers Nebraska - revolt in our favor; blocked their bind and have a majority of their delegates Maryland - fat stinky Jew … Rhode Island - traitorous c---s who I will eradicate from the face of this planet.”

Giunta also said he planned to make one of the competing Young Republicans “unalive himself on the convention floor.”

In another instance, Douglass, the Vermont state senator, describes to the group members how one of Padgett’s Jewish colleagues may have made a procedural error related to the number of Maryland delegates permitted at the national convention.

“I was about to say you’re giving nationals to [sic] much credit and expecting the Jew to be honest,” Brianna Douglass, Sam’s wife and Vermont Young Republican’s national committee member, replied to her husband’s message. Brianna Douglass did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

So they know objectively that what they are saying is SO wrong that they would be “cooked” if anyone outside the chat saw the messages. But they were enjoying themselves SO MUCH, presumably because they believe that these sentiments are SO right, that they kept doing it anyway. And they think they are the best qualified people to lead others in any capacity. How am I doing?

Love the crocodile tears. "Oh, they were doctored." "I'm sorry [for saying racist things and wishing for gas chambers], and I take full responsibility." "I should have been more careful with the people I trusted." Yeah, nobody is buying your bullshit anymore; you've said, "It's just a joke, bro," one too many times.

Absolutely nothing about this is surprising to me in the least. What is surprising, however, is how much people recognize this is a serious problem that seems to continue to get worse, and yet people will insist that free speech is more important. We've placed restrictions on yelling fire in a theater when there is none, because it causes harm to society to do it. Why, similarly, can we not place restrictions on obviously hateful and intolerant speech? Certainly those which have larger platforms and opportunity to sew this intolerance and erode democracy should have more scrutiny, no?

People do not understand freedom of speech. All it means is that the government cannot arrest you for saying somethnig, it does not mean "freedom from consequences" or that anything that is not the government cannot shut that shit down, which they absolutely should do.

Social shaming and banning of certain speech should absolutely be done.

As for the government, well, we aren't a fan of them, but we're also not a fan of cops, jails or the injustice system, so it's better that way for now.

All it means is that the government cannot arrest you for saying somethnig

Actually, it means a lot more than that.

It means you're entitled to a platform - that you can say things into a microphone to a large crowd gathered for any reason on federal land that's open to individuals... including to talk about how other humans are deserving of hate. We don't owe them a space to spread hate speech. We can do better.

Right, well we are obviously against free speech as we have said many times, though not necessarily here, if it includes that as a definition.

We don't believe every hateful thing should be able to be said, published etc. However, we're also not statists, so have no real way to stop it beyond not allowing it in our communities, never writing, publishing or letting anything hateful be said, and using social pressure to stop giving hateful people and groups a platform, or to stop others listening to them.

This is because we don't believe in using the injustice and legal systems in order to stop such things.

Why would we, the U.S. wanted those Nazis to start building rockets to fight the communists. Hell, we almost immediately started supporting Franco's fascist regime in Spain! The U.S. has always loved fascists, the only reason we fought them is because the Axis decided to force us into the war by attacking the U.S.

  • Having it exposed is certainly noteworthy, if only because it removes the plausible deniability. Fascists thrive on doublespeak and dog whistles. The former allows them to attract new followers who may not be radicalized yet, but agree with parts of the language being used. And the latter allows them to publicly signal support to other fascists, without being openly accused of being fascist. Both are important tools in a fascist’s toolbox. Having the mask pulled off removes any doubt about what they’ve been hinting at, and removes the plausible deniability that they always hide behind.

Frankly, I used to be on board with folks like this. The world felt immutable to my brief consciousness, and joking about genocide, slavery, and, oddly enough, mandatory Pictionary nights punishable by firing squad, seemed harmless. It was all equally acceptable absurdism, in our eyes. I worry that these kids don’t see the world as an unchanging place where their ideas float around with all the weight of a butterfly. I fear they see their voices as bricks to heave and build. That terrifies me.
