There are instances that federate together as a single sort of entity.

So, are there other entities? Meaning, is there a group of Lemmy instances somewhere outside of the existing ones we see here?

And, how do I get there, and which one don’t have people from the USA?

IIRC there were a couple of nazi instances that were instantly defederated by everyone except each other. But I'm pretty sure they are both dead now. Good.

Yes, all Nazis should die. But apparently calling for a Nazi to die will get you banned. Logic that doesn’t work in my brain.

    check out Lemmygrad.ml

Edit: Read your other comments nevermind. I realize you are like in some sort of weird transitionary phase where you don't like anyone. Try it out in a few years when you realize the axis of resistance is the only way forward.

It’s not that I dislike everyone on earth. It’s that anyone who simps for a government is a government stooge. All existing governments are failures, and to falsely claim one of the big 3 is vastly better just to crush another is a despicable practice that doesn’t actually help humanity at all.

So no, anything ending in .ml is probably going to only want half of me ;)

Yeah like I said your in your phase of socialist development where you've accepted that the west is evil, but you have yet to deprogram yourself from the propaganda about its adversaries. So you see both the west, and its enemies, as the problem. Which is incoherent. I do not think anyone exists who thinks a government is perfect, but China is very clearly much better in many ways than any western government, and that is the very reason most of the global south looks to China in friendship.

It's a common mindset to go through. I hope you can get through it in a productive way.

Yes, to piggyback off this, wait til you get called an Authoritarian Tankie, and then a Russian or Chinese bot for straight up repeating facts you learned from western books.

It’s a great feeling to be on this side!

Specific/credible death threats put instance admins in serious legal jeopardy (a.k.a. fedposting).

That's the main reason for it.

You could host your own and decide for yourself with which you want to federate. Or just block whatever you don't like.

Easiest is probably to just subscribe to the communities you like and only browse the subscribed communities. And then block instances/users you don't want to see.

Only other thing I have seen is instances not federating at all. Lemmy and probably Piefed as well support that out of the box. In that case they are just normal forums.

Don't know any Lemmy server that does that but Truth Social is actually running Mastodon and not federating with the rest of the world. Not that anyone would want to federate with that shit show anyways.

Yeah, I’ll skip that truth social haha.

The trouble with self hosting is that leads to credit card trails (unless crypto, and still) and I don’t think asking for Trump to be assassinated in no joking way is something you want so easily attached to an identity. Make them work a little bit for it.

There arent many that fully isolate itself and defederate with all other servers. Beehaw was of the earlier ones that approached the federation with strict moderation walls.

Check out this graph made by /u/Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz. It shows defederations between major Threadiverse instances. I don't think any instance groups are completely isolated, but some like Lemmygrad and Hexbear have been defederated by over half of the major instances.

Yeah, the problem is that all of the domain names on that image… can suck a dick. (Pardon my Murrkkkan)

Basically, everyone (with power) on here has made it very clear they don’t want me, or my views that don’t agree with USA, Russia, or China.

So… I want a place that just doesn’t have 🇺🇸🇷🇺🇨🇳. Everyone else is fine. I don’t want .world people (for example), interacting with me on any level whatsoever.

you're better off not using lemmy at all then. I never really got the discrimination for the different instances anyway, it's true that certain people tend to hang out on certain instances, but discounting everything just because of the link they chose when creating an account is dumb imo.

The problem isn’t the instances themselves. It’s the users. Most of them have accounts on multiple instances anyway.

I’m really not trying to be argumentative but I just think I need to find other friends—but I don’t plan to be homeless during the transition.

Lemmy is fine. The code is fine. But maybe you’re right.

But one this is for sure, I gotta go (from here).

as i see it, the point of lemmy and mastodon is the federation, so the infrastructure can be decentralized but the content on there isn't. like other guy said, probably better to search for isolated forums for topics that you like. upside is that stalkers will have a way harder time tracking all of your online activity.

Yeah. I just want another federation.

And I’m not worried about stalkers on Lemmy. Admins and mods make it very impossible to stalk me since I have to get a new account every week lol. Frankly, if a person has an account over 6 months, I assume they are just part of the problem 🤪

I know admins can power trip, but i don't believe that just so happens to be the case for every single instance you sign up for just because your political viewpoints are different, unless you're incredibly confrontational about them or you're a literal nazi fascist; which no one here likes, twitter would be a better place then.

For obvious reasons i don't have access to comments on your previous accounts, but from what you said i would try re-evaluating whether it really is true that everyone else is the problem, and you're 100% blameless.

I’m an anarchist. I believe the problems in the world at this moment originate almost entirely from the governments of the USA, Russia, and China. And anyone who is willing to simp for any of them isn’t worth being on the bottom of my shoe.

Early on, I used the same email on Lemmy.world, discuss.social, and lemmy.zip. I pissed off one of the mods from .world and all three accounts got deleted.

I don’t use multiple accounts all at once. Dogpiling is “big three” tactic. They just sit there gaining age until I need a new one. So totally unused accounts got deleted. You KNOW that means they share data.

That’s a problem for me. It should be for you. I just want… better people. (Not you specifically of course)

fwiw i agree, the internet could do less with propaganda from world superpowers. If what you're saying is true, i'd just find an instance that does not listen to foreign admins regarding bans; and for users i'd just block ones you do not like. no need to isolate yourself from the community any further, we're already plenty isolated from not being on the big social medias. quokk looks like a good place for you.

Don't how how the lemmy census is, but unless the instance refers to a specific country like lemmy.ca or feddit.org i would imagine that the split between "big three" and other countries is roughly the same, regardless if they federate or not.

Quokk.au perm banned one of my accounts when a mod from sh.itjust.works complained about me being uncivil. What’s funny is I never really participated on quokk. So the admin on that instance banned me for someone else’s vague “uncivil” rule. I guess I understand the desire not to be an admin and have users on your server causing trouble. Especially if it’s one of the abusive admins.

The trouble with just participating on one instance though, is the users might be elsewhere. A large instance like .world (and ml) has more leverage than another instance and that is wrong.

So, there is no instance that won’t ban me eventually.

can't have your cake and eat it too. the way federation works means bigger instances will always have more influence, but it's a double edged sword. They cannot defederate from everything or it just turns into a normal centralized reddit knockoff, so the best thing to do is not to give in to their demands, if it gets bad enough the users will move; something else will become the next "flagship instance".

nothing is exactly stopping you from jumping instances each time until you find someone that does not care for petty cross-site drama. username and comment history goes bust, but maybe that's a good thing; less traceability.

I can’t recall ever banning anyone because another instances mod said they were uncivil, most bans I’ve made have been for racism, misogyny or *phobia.

If you had received a temp ban from whatever instance your account was on at the time, PieFed has a design choice where they never expire on our end so it would look like a perm ban?

I remember my first week on Lemmy. It was a few years back. I went to a place that I now know of as news@lemmy.world. I saw a post about something life threatening regarding Trump. I forget what exactly. I commented “haha, good.” Several minutes later I was perm banned by jeffw. That’s about the time I realized this place wasn’t any different than Reddit, a place I never got banned from in the 10 years I was there, and I should treat people how they treat me.

So I guess thank jeffw for creating the monster you see before you. 🙂🙃🙂

LW has some contentious moderation decisions. I generally avoid it where possible.

I have no problems with you saying Nazis should die or laughing at the death of someone shitty. I also honestly have no recollection of ever banning someone simply for being “uncivil” because another mod asked, to the point where I think you might be leaving some of the story out.

Nor do I think you’re a monster, but I do think you could ease up on the hostility a bit.

Anyway I guess, welcome to the instance.

Imagine a Venn diagram. The circles represent instances. They overlap. That’s where we are now, piefed.ca and quokk.au existing in an overlapping circle.

I don't think that exists, but you might be interested in what Bonfire calls "archipelago mode". It's where instead of open federation being the default, an instance deliberately federates with selected other instances, which can result in a small group of instances cut off from the rest.
