There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml.

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to !lemmy_support@lemmy.ml, however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

KRIB BLING Gold Full-Automatic Washing Machine with Drain Pump, 17.7 lbs Compact Washer, 10 Wash Programs & 8 Water Levels Ideal for Apartments

I got this machine when my full sizeed machine's motherboard went bad and wasn't reparable. It came with operating instructions and a user guide, neither of which has programming instructions. I've been dealing with running a full normal cycle for two years because I can't seem to find programming instructions. For the love of everything holy, can someone please find and post them, or offer assistance? Sometimes I just want a rinse cycle, or spin cycle, gentle cycle, add a presoak. Thanks in advance.

Thank you to users for upvoting. I removed my vote and boost.

Hi everyone! I recently switched from Reddit and I'm still getting used to Lemmy.

I'm looking for an Android client that feels as close as possible to the Reddit experience: a clean feed, smooth gestures, easy community switching and strong user expirience.

I've seen many options (Voyager, Thunder, Jerboa, Summit, Raccoon, Interstellar) and I'm not sure which one to pick. Open source is a plus for me.

What do you use, and why? Any pros and cons from daily use would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

There are instances that federate together as a single sort of entity.

So, are there other entities? Meaning, is there a group of Lemmy instances somewhere outside of the existing ones we see here?

And, how do I get there, and which one don’t have people from the USA?

Edit, image example

My grandma passed years ago, I now possess some of the odds and ends no one in the family has strong enough attachment to hold on to.

There are a few things I suspect might be of historical value to some folks. Like high school yearbooks; I've reached out to her high school to see if they need a physical copy. Other than that, any advice for where to search for interested parties? Geneology hobbyists? Universities doing anthropology research? I'm willing to put in a few attempts. After a couple attempts and "noes", I'm fine trashing the stuff.

Yearbooks, government records, teachers license, to the more personal, diaries, photographs that I have less expectation of finding someone interested in them.

Any advice on where to search, fellow lemmies? I am US-based.

Edit: thanks, I'll def add local museums, libraries, and historical societies to the list. Anyone with any geneology hobby experience? What little I've been exposed to them, they're absolute sleuths, I just don't know ways to find contacts other than cold calling a random individual. I'm assuming if they do organize, it's more online since searches for local chapters of some sort hasn't gotten me anywhere yet.

I had to read a Wizard of Earthsea for school and HATED it (probably because I was expecting it to be like harry potter ngl). However, every discussion I've seen online about the best fantasy series almost always includes Earthsea, so I was wondering if I was just too young to appreciate it and should revisit it. I've heard similar things for Jane Eyre, which I also found boring but found out it's apparently meant for middle-aged people.

That food had to go somewhere; did they do a big giveaway like sensible people, or did it all just go in the dumpsters so as to not devalue their remaining stocks? I suppose some items might’ve been shipped back to where they came from as well, but they couldn’t possibly do that for everything. Genuinely curious how this shook out in terms of waste mitigation vs profits protection.

A few weeks ago I asked (here) a question about composing an opera. It is progressing (especially since a few AI-savvy “lemmings” are now helping with composing). In my proposed act one, Golda and Yasser meet and fall in love, it is set on the West Bank, so an intercultural love story.  In act 2, a terrible fight breaks out between the families, with dramatic librettos by the four parents. (Drama and politically relevant). Golda’s drunk grandfather offers some comic relieve. In the third and final act, things will start to collapse. War breaks out, Yasser turns out to be 47 (whereas Golda is just 18) and he visits kinky websites. As the tension heightens, Golda sticks a knife into Yasser and he dies singing her favorite aria “Mia Bella Fiore.” Curtain.  Question: should I flip this around, and replace Yasser by a Hannah (a still attractive 50-something), and Golda by Mahmut (a 16 yo leatherjacket motor boy)? What would work the best? It should all be politically correct too.

Just looking for advice, I just got laid off of my job o two years. Before that I had a series of jobs with the same companies for about ten years. I feel like a failure and am just wondering how other people process something like this.

I hear about emergency preparation in certain countries like the UK or Japan (as they anticipate either a incoming cyberattack or another Iranian conflict) in case things end up becoming as if its the rapture all of a sudden. However, the weird thing is that neither are discussed openly on MSM or shown on the top feed of social media (perhaps due to censorship or hate being called out for fearmongering).

My nearby gas station has been out of fuel for 2 days. Another sign of collapse or just bad planning on their logistics ?

I've heard about him a lot over the last year or two, but am unsure where to start with his works or if he's genuinely worth investigating or not. Any and all opinions welcomed!

I'm specifically not looking for examples of widely-used projects which already existed before LLMs and which today are accepting LLM-assisted contributions - I know of plenty of examples of those.

I'm looking for examples of new things - both "greenfield" or "cleanroom reimplementation" projects which were (1) created using LLMs from the start and which (2) clearly have a significant number of regular users today.

I know that there are many working pieces of software which satisfy the first requirement, but i'm curious which (if any) satisfy the second yet.

After the recent "someone recreated adobe and microsoft suites with ai, omg" news cycle, many people tried some of those applications. But it isn't clear to me if many (or any) people are actually using any of them on a regular basis yet.

Reading a book (Super immunity) that discusses food and the effects of different ones on our bodies. One effect is angiogenesis inhibition or promotion (formation of new blood vessels). Foods that inhibit this are useful in inhibiting cancer/tumor growth, so good as we age. Some of these foods (mushrooms, cruciferous veg, spinach, onions...) are often rejected by children, much to the unhappiness of their parents. But, maybe, this is an innate thing their body does to keep these foods to a minimum as they are growing quickly? So they have the best possible "environment" for new cell and blood vessel growth? Just a thought. Also, perhaps those who hated mushrooms as a child might then find they like them later, as their bodies now find that effect useful! :-)
