How long before the billionaires ban surgical methods of birth control, too?

Hysterectomies are notoriously difficult to get without husband's permission in the US. Even when the person trying to yeet their uterus needs it gone for medical reasons. Not a long shot to see it attempted yet within Trump's two years left.

As for stopping men from getting vasectomies? Lol, yeah right.

He might have a multi-series deal with Apple, that's not uncommon. I just watched Dan Levy's latest comedy which is part of a multi-series deal he has with Netflix. Mike Flanagan had the same with Netflix, now he's mid-deal with Amazon I think it is, whatever platform Carrie came out on.

User Tags. I skim right past when I see a wave of posts from the same user tagged profile. I use red tags for "do not engage" and yellow for "comment with caution". This is my alternate approach to reporting them (assuming they haven't really broken a rule or when the mods aren't active) or to blocking them (not enough users on Lemmy for that, I only block bots and fully public Nazis/pedos).

It's been a few years since she passed, everyone has had a chance to pick out anything they want to keep. Photos and diaries still left have been digitized and shared with any family member who want copies.

I'm actually first to toss physical nostalgic memorabilia, which is why everything ended up with me; other family members want me to make the stuff go away without having to trash it themselves. I accept my family role. Just the idea of doing geneology as a hobby gives me hives, that is absolutely not me or my personality. I think it is super cool and support other people enjoying it, thank goodness everyone is not like me.

I appreciate the offer to take a look, but I'm not going to share the things through Lemmy. I keep this account pseudonymous.

Welllll, the Bible does tell of how God uses the rape of innocent women to punish their sinful husband. So if Brand's the flavor of Christian that believes the Bible contains an accurate representation of God's character, then Brand is acting perfectly in line with being a Christian.

2 Samuel 12:11, David has slept with another man's wife and then killed the man, God says he will have David's wives (concubines) raped in public to punish him:

Thus says the Lord, > ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight.

He doesn't just condone rape or allow for it to happen, he actively makes it happen "I will raise up evil against you [...] I will take your wives before your eyes".

    Reason 725 I deconstructed.

My grandma passed years ago, I now possess some of the odds and ends no one in the family has strong enough attachment to hold on to.

There are a few things I suspect might be of historical value to some folks. Like high school yearbooks; I've reached out to her high school to see if they need a physical copy. Other than that, any advice for where to search for interested parties? Geneology hobbyists? Universities doing anthropology research? I'm willing to put in a few attempts. After a couple attempts and "noes", I'm fine trashing the stuff.

Yearbooks, government records, teachers license, to the more personal, diaries, photographs that I have less expectation of finding someone interested in them.

Any advice on where to search, fellow lemmies? I am US-based.

Edit: thanks, I'll def add local museums, libraries, and historical societies to the list. Anyone with any geneology hobby experience? What little I've been exposed to them, they're absolute sleuths, I just don't know ways to find contacts other than cold calling a random individual. I'm assuming if they do organize, it's more online since searches for local chapters of some sort hasn't gotten me anywhere yet.

I have the flexibility to work from home damn near anytime I please, so I plan to avoid the office this week. It's a Midwestern manufacturing facility, so my average coworker is male and decades older than me.

Most are nice to my face, I don't want to hear them spout racist, bigoted garbage.

One of my faves I've seen tonight, it tells a lot of info with a simple, easy to read graphic. It doesn't hurt that I like the data too and not just the visualization.

Geographic map of Iowa, counties outlined with vector lines showing whether a county has shifted Democrat (blue vector points left) or Republican (red vector points right). The length of the vector indicates how much the county has shifted.

I am watching CBC's coverage of the US mid-term elections because they're slightly less annoying than CNN/C-SPAN/Fox/ABC/etc. All the Canadian News people are wearing poppy pins, which led me down a Wikipedia rabbit hole on how the poppy flower is a symbol for remembering military service members. It dates back to a WWI era poem, and also inspired France to do create a similar bleuet de France.

It also led me to this 2015 article in which some Canadians considered it "defacing" the symbol to use a safer pin design than an inches long stick pin. I'm just glad USians aren't the only that get mouth-frothing stupid about arbitrary symbols. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/remembrance-day-poppy-pin-that-won-t-fall-off-1.3311799

Early voting in the Nov. 3 election is now underway. County auditors’ offices have started mailing out absentee ballots requested by voters and are opening their doors for early in-person voting.

Early in-person voting will run through Monday, Nov. 2, the day before the election, and all mail-in absentee ballots must be received in the auditor’s office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, when the polls close on Election Day.

Voters wanting to request an absentee ballot by mail must submit a written request form to their auditor’s office by next Monday, Oct. 18. That’s also the final day to register to vote by mail before Election Day. Same-day registration is available at all polling places on Election Day and during early voting.

In English, most people I have had direct conversation with prefer to be called "a person with autism" instead of "an autistic person". The distinction being a person with a condition versus the condition defining them.

Do spanish speakers have similar differentiation and preference? Un persona autista or una persona con autismo?

The stars are gone. The planets have disappeared. Only those aboard space stations or starships were left to witness the universe dim, giving the end a name: The Quiet Rapture. Now, humanity decays in the rusting halls of crumbling stations, scavenging barren moons by the ghost light of long-vanished stars. But one moon stands apart. In the darkness of the void, a scanner detects an impossibility: an ocean of blood. In a desperate bid for survival, the last remnants of humanity craft a crude submarine to explore the bleeding depths. They weld one soul inside to pilot it. But as the hatch is sealed, the terrifying reality sets in. Hope in this void is as illusionary as the starlight. This is not an expedition. This is an execution.
