Most venoms are proteins or other large molecules. Antivenom is prepared by injecting small amounts of the venom into an animal, and when the animal's immune system produces antibodies that target the venom, we extract them and refine them. So antivenom is just antibodies that target venom.

Can we create a vaccine that makes antivenom antibodies inside a person's body, and have their immune system retain memory of the venom? It could be done by microdosing venom, or with compounds that are similar to the venom, but less harmful.

Edit for clarity: Microdosing is not my main point. I'm talking about whether antivenom can operate like a vaccine.
Current route of antivenom: Venom is injected into another animal in small, controlled amounts -> Animal's immune system produces antibodies -> Antibodies are extracted and refined -> Antibodies are used as treatment for a person who was envenomated
Hypothetical vaccine route of antivenom: Compound similar to venom is injected into people like a vaccine -> Person's immune system produces antibodies that target this compound, and will also target venom -> Person retains lasting immunity against venom, similar to immunity against diseases

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, it's only impossible for an object with mass to accelerate to the speed of light. If something was magically accelerated to above c, it wouldn't break any rules to stay above c.

So what would happen in a collision between a slow object and something moving faster than c?

Like, I understand the water cycle, it comes and it goes, y'know, ezpz, but the shit that fucks me up though is like...what is a river? How? How does infinite water pour through corporeal crevices carved into the bosom of the Earth to thunce flow endlessly and forever?

Like, you can't tell me that a gajillion gallons of water is flowing from the precipice of Mt St Fuck You in all directions at a continuous pace because global warming be evaporating a blanket of non-stop rain free falling back onto itself to predicate the whole situation forward another peg!

But, what the fuck? It rains sometimes, and that's how rivers work? What is this shit? Now, I'm playing in character because obviously we all know that the Earth isn't real and we are each experiencing our own, unique parallel reality as a monad in a monadic nodal communication system, obviously, and that water's in your head dear but, really, how tf does the average person believe this insane bullshit about how rivers are a natural feature formed from simple erosinal fluid dynamics? It is insane to me how unthunkable these mouth breathers are.

Hi everyone,

A few years ago I tried to melt aluminium using an old steel fire extinguisher as crucible. This was done in a homemade foundry using coke as fuel.

Me having no patience, I tried getting the temperature up as fast as possible and a hole was melted in the crucible, producing a very bright light.

Could the molten aluminum have reacted with the rusty steel fire extinguisher to produce thermite?

(I’m not advocating violence against worms. I like and protect them, they’re good for my garden. This question has been bugging me for a while and it doesn’t make sense. )

Or is it about the same, as the distance I'm traveling vertically remains unchanged?

I have a cold sore on my lips right now. Normally I would sleep on my own when that happens, but I'm going away for a while, so my girlfriend wanted to sleep together, even though she really doesn't want to catch the herpes virus. Unfortunately she got too close to my pillow and it briefly touched her face. She panicked and had to get up, saying she can feel her skin tingle and dry up. I was really confused, because I'd been pretty sure that it takes much more time than that for any infection or immune reaction to develop that would have a perceivable effect, so I thought it was perhaps psychological, but she got cross with me, like I'm denying something obvious.

What happens when your body gets into contact with a virus? How does the infection start? Can you feel them on your skin?

Hello! I have a question!

I've been just skimming about Carbon Capture and Sequestration, and how scientists research naturally occurring CCS as it pertains to photosynthesis in plants.

I wanted to ask what sort of discoveries have been made in this area! It seems really interesting. I wonder what research is being done to maybe combat climate change through bio-engineering, like, really really carbon-hungry plants? Or maybe Reforestation efforts in order to make big forests that eat up carbon!

In addition, I'm wondering if we've seen any natural reaction to climate change in this area. Part of my (rudimentary) understanding of natural adaptation is that we will sometimes see things adapt to the circumstances that humans have caused, like the new fungus that eats radiation in Chernobyl, or new microbes that eat plastic that we've seen.

Have we seen any sort of natural reaction to increased carbon in the atmosphere? Have we seen any cool plants or little fellas evolve to munch carbon more effectively? Or maybe we've seen much faster growth or bigger plants on average because there's so much carbon for them?

I'm just kinda in an excited mood and wanted to ask about cool stuff. Please share all your cool stuff.

I just learned, while in a Wikipedia rabbit hole, about the Ashley Treatment, part of which involves pre-emptive closing of growth plates.

He was killed by, if memory serves, a foot infection, being unable to properly fight it as a direct result of his height. So, you can see where I'm going with this.

And yes, I know it wasn't invented until like 40 years after he was born.

If this is not true then what is the supposed light caused by? Or does the brain just say, "fuck it one more blast and i'm outtta here"?

I feel like a crazy person saying this but: one particular door handle in an office building I go to once peer week always feels warmer than ambient.

It's the handle inside the stairwell on the main floor. It feels warmer than ambient, with either hand, if I was just using the handrail or not. There's no sunlight shining on it. I use the handle on my way out of the building a few minutes after I pass by it on the way in, so I know there's nobody standing there holding it for several minutes just before I use it. It feels warm if I check it on my way into the building as well.

The handle on the lobby side of the door seems normal. The handle upstairs seems normal. The door feels normal. The strike plate in the doorframe feels normal.

It's super weird. Could the motion detector mounted above the door be bathing it in IR light or something?

I'm going to see if I can find my IR thermometer to quantify my subjective observation. Are there any other potential sources of energy I haven't thought of? Anything that could be messing with my perceptions? anything in particular I should remember when going to collect some data?

Update:

Nothing in the strike plate. Electrical conduit goes into door frame, but not into door.

I took some measurements today. Sorry it took so long, I forgot the thermometer twice, then remembered but discovered it was out of batteries. Then I forgot the batteries once or twice.

Infra red forehead thermometer with "liquids" setting. I don't trust it for absolute values but for relative values I think it's okay.

I put blue masking tape on some points of interest so that I'd be measuring from the same material.

the door in question with tape on the points I measured

I waited at least a minute between applying tape and measuring temps.

The conduit on the left: 24.0C The junction box on the right:24.0C The handle on the hallway side of the door (not pictured): 26.0C The handle on the stairwell side of the door: 28-29.5C depending on where I measure.

Someone that works in the building mentioned the door in the basement is the same. I only measured the handle down there but yeah 28-29.5.

A problem with my methodology: I put some of the tape on a few weeks ago, (conduit and junction box), and some of it today (the door handles) all the door handles measured warmer than the conduit and junction box. It's possible the tape had warmed up in my car in the sun, or pulling it off the roll may have warmed it.
