Hence why I have session restore enabled.

So I can have my 1519 tabs back.

    Like any normal person.

...this is what normal people do... right?

I suggest a tab grouping addon because there are scenarios where you can still lose your tabs with just session restore (eg if you open a new browser window, that often gets treated as a different session and it will only save the one closed last, so if you close the big tab one first and then close a single tab, you might find it only has that single tab saved when you load it up again).

I use Simple Tab Groups, which is set up to hide tabs from other groups until I switch to them, so it doesn't depend on what is going on in the active session (well, kinda, FF does provide a lot of the infra, like the loaded tabs from inactive groups are still loaded), but uses its own data to save/restore tabs that isn't just "save a flat list of tabs when window is closed".

Tree Style Tab (or any of the other very good extensions doing the same) is the ultimate to organize your tabs.

And then you can answer to all these "But why ? Bookmarks are the only good way !" with : Why manually sort things in bookmarks when it can sort itself automagically and if it's not adequate, it's just drag and drop it on the view I already have at the side of my browser ?

Mobile has at least 2000 tabs. (Tell Firefox to open on a new tab. Also told Firefox to not delete old tabs. About 2 years at least)

Trying to send to desktop to sort out. Crashes (both mobile and desktop) at around 1300 tabs too.

    CTRL+SHIFT+T: Open recently closed tab.

Can be hit as much as you like.

Same. Though there is an exception if I'm focused on a task or figuring out a particular problem. Then my number of tabs can spike to dozens. They all get closed immediately as soon as I finish or my flow is broken though.

Wouldn't be able to handle it.

My browser clears everything every time I close it. Like sessions, logins, history, cookies, ...

If I need it I will be able to find it again. Or I create a bookmark. That is what you're supposed to do anyway.

Right... 55... Thats how many tabs I totally have... 😅😭

(Right now I'm at 470, which is pretty low for me. I have a problem. I honestly dont know what's wrong with me.)

People think I’m crazy too, similar number of tabs.

But History no longer works in so many browsers… it only lasts 30 days… and bookmarks are not suggested properly in the search / address bar the same way open tabs are, so it’s wrong, very very wrong, and quite naughty… but this is the way to achieve this specific kind of long-term referencing… with zero effort

Depends on the browser, but sometimes dedicated search field, sometimes in the omnibar, plus LLM can search contents (depending on extensions)

I definitely feel there should be a much better way, but I’ve tried read it later services, built in “reading list”, link aggregators, all of which have just enough friction that I peter off using them, idk

I guess that makes 100+ tabs a bit more reasonable to filter through. I still dont quite see the advantage of having so many, maybe just a fear the information will be gone next time I would go to search it up?

Not to proliferate your issue but have you checked out extensions for tab trees in your browser? It let's you organize all the tabs you want yo keep. I've had the extension for years after someone told me about it. Maybe I'll think about using it today when I get to work and see the 5 or 6 browser instances with 20-40 tabs each I have open on my work pc...

I'll never understand why so many people keep so many tabs open, When I find something worthy of revisit I just bookmark the website, or I just visit and close the tab when I'm done.

Could someone explain this to me? is it a generational thing (I grew up in the 90s)?

Ah, that is because you seem to have only two tiers of tab value, worth revisiting and not. There is a middle tier of "to be considered for evaluation when I have time". THAT is what all those extra tabs are for :) The crux of course is that there is rarely time to fully look at all those tabs, so they accumulate. As you can tell, I frequently suffered from this situation. My solution was to use an RSS reader so I could just leave the potential tab unread and save all the memory (that Sam Altman is currently salivating for).

Its hoarding behavior. At least it only affects that person. Probably a sign of poor mental health, if someone can't let go of old tabs. Maybe some angry tab collector will come set me straight though.

Then it's just a mess of bookmarks instead of tabs. And maybe I was in the middle of doing something and decided that I didn't want to do it anymore right then but would eventually return to it, which could involve multiple tabs together.

But I did get an addon to help save and manage my tabs after an instance of closing my main window while having another browser window open (sometimes it's nice to pull a tab out to a seperate window so you can see two tabs at once), which would lose the full set of tabs in FF (other than the single one in the other window).

When the browser restarts, it doesn't automatically load all of those tabs until you click over to them (at least by default, I think there is a setting for it if you'd rather it did).

And whats the point of a 1000 plus bookmark list? You save 50 sites at a time, you will need duckduckgo to search your own bookmarks.

Yes, i use folders for my bookmarks. But sometimes i dont know what the fuck folder i put that bookmark in.

Suffering from a something of riches, I guess.

Well, im not super happy with either method. I use bookmarks more often. But skimming thro 20 tabs (mouse wheel flipping thro the pages) is easier for those 20 tabs then my dozen or so bookmark categories with 50 plus websites each....

I assume neuralink solves both of those problems?

Control + Shift + T (reopen closed tab)

Usually that opens the whole window, or just press that 55+ times

I never understood why people would keep so many tabs open. Is it a chrome habit? Like you let your browser keep them open because it's the default setting? You can search history. I feel dirty if I have more than 20 open, and it means I was productive.

It's a FOMO hoarding thing or ADHD thing. People place great value on their passing interests. They see something like "oh that would be good to read/watch" and the tab structure becomes a kind of combined to-do and reminder list. Closing the tab feels like giving up, forgetting, or losing an opportunity. If the tab is still there, there's still an opportunity. Bookmarks don't work because it's out of sight/out of mind.

This isn't an argument for keeping so many tabs. It's an explanation. People will still feel the weight of so many things on their list and they really should just let them go. They'll feel lighter and they won't miss it (except for when they do) 👀

For Firefox Ctrl, Shift + D, it bookmarks all of your open tabs in a new folder.

Do it every week? Wish I could know how to make it do itself everyday.

I can fill the tab row and after that every tab decreases efficiency. If I can type where to go faster than I can find the old tab, what is the point.

I've been using Firefox's tab pinning function and it's wonderful. Whether you close your browser or your computer ends up shutting off for whatever reason, your tabs are all saved.

However, I found out the hard way that if you open a second window and then close the the one with all your pinned tabs you lose all of them... 😳🫩😢

Bookmarks are a thing. Then just open them up as a new tab group. Does FF do tab groups? I'm on mobile right now.

    Oh but I can

    I do use many tabs

I have entire windows full of tabs

I have two browsers full of windows full of tabs

I've been meaning to quit Google Chrome for two years

    I can't

    There's tabs in it

I cleared them at one point but then my Firefox was so full of tabs that I used Chrome for a while

So now it's full of tabs again

    I am a tab hoarder

Also... I could have put these sentences in a paragraph but... I just feel like if I put them on separate lines, they'll be easier for me to spot when I need them.

    I have a serious problem

I realized that I am not responsible enough to manage tabs, so I force myself to always close them all. Even set the Tabs on my phone to auto-close if I don't look at them for some time. If something is important, I should bookmark it (which I usually forget, but oh well)

Start every day new. Who the hell even looks through 700 tabs? Your search bar will recommend the website you clicked on previously, so if searchability is the issue, it's somewhat moot.

I can't work out if it's a symptom of ADHD or OCD. I'm leaning more on the OCD side for this kind of behaviour

Speaking about a problem or difficulty you have is not (always) bragging. It can be a sane way to share about it with other concerned persons. You know, that's how we feel understood, and how sometime we find solutions.
