Why do people wait for the last day instead of voting early?

But what if there’s a last minute announcement and it turns out the democrats are all aliens?

Spoiler: I’d probably still vote Democrat in the unfortunate event that I’m an American and in that situation.

Alien democrats are far better than humanoid Republicans.

I'm pretty sure that Mitch McConnell is human, but the battery in the control device that they implanted in his brain was failing. (And now has failed.) That's why they switched to putting one of their own in an ill-fitting human suit, and calling him "Ted" Cruz. Pretty sure they're reptilians, which is why that volunteer has to engage in behavioral thermoregulation.

I'm in an area that isn't under threat of having my vote invalidated

This. My area has long lines for early voting as there are only 4 polling locations for early voting. If I wait day of, after the before work morning rush, I'm in and out in less than 5 minutes.

I vote by mail now in IL because we are not savages, but when I voted in person I always got up, threw some slob clothes on and went at like 6A or whatever when the place opened. In and out. Then I went home and got ready for work.

In the US, we like to make voting a challenge. No election day holiday, polling places usually have hours within 9-5, and mail-in ballots are being postmarked late because of cost cutting in the USPS.

There are way less early voting locations and they typically close earlier, so they're (purposely) much less convenient to plan for. The one time I early voted, I waited in line for like two hours. They ended up staying open past the advertised close time so those of us still waiting in line could vote.

Meanwhile, this morning I went and voted at my normal location and it took like 20 minutes from parking to getting back in my car, and the poll workers there said it was the busiest they've seen so far.

More convenient. The polling place is on the way to work, a few blocks from my house. The early voting locations are much further away. I have a friend who volunteers at a polling place every election, and he's explained the procedure to me: Even if I voted in-person absentee (i.e. early), they keep my ballot sealed until election day, then it has to be transported to my polling place, and an election volunteer has to physically walk it through the same process of consulting the voter book, and placing it in the scanner.

It's not quite the same, of course. I was behind one of these volunteers this morning, and he located a long list of voters in the book, rather than doing it one at a time. But, at the bottom line, my ballot has to be physically cast at my polling place on election day by somebody. So why not go do it myself?

Well, for me I've been out of town then sick since early voting started. Finally can get out today. Normally though I prefer to skip the lines and vote early. My state also does not allow mail in without reason (which is fucking nonsense but alas).

Personally I think the sooner everything collapses the better for the most people and continuing this charade of "voting out fascism" is pointless. That being said, I'm one dumb person and many others, smarter than me, say it's worth it, so I do it, but voting for capitalists requires holding my nose. I live in Oregon and Tina Kotek is a great example of someone I don't want to vote for but probably will vote for to further Democratic party interests. I sat down to do it yesterday and legit started weeping for the death of the American experiment. So I left it to today. My county clerk is in walking distance and I'll deliver it to her this morning. That's the beauty of voting only by mail, it's not rushed chaos.

What do you think "everything collapses" entails?

Everything is already collapsing and it has a good fifty years more collapsing left in it before there's even a dent to human population levels. If a final collapse is coming, it's 200 years from now when the last climate-controlled habitats run out of solar power and humanity goes extinct, along with the vast majority of species on earth.

Or do you mean a political collapse where American institutions break down? Already happening! And it has at least two decades of collapse left, even at full-tilt monarchic fascism. Rs will sweep the midterms and change the constitution, Trump will rig 2028, and then declare himself king before 2032. Around the same time, they'll purge all the brown people and queers, just like the holocaust. Are we going to start the revolution from inside the walls of Alligator Auschwitz!?

Right now is the best time we have left for a revolution if things keep getting worse. And now is a fucking awful time for a revolution! The revolution will be much easier if El-Sayed and the DSA take over the Democrats and shut down ICE. So that's what I'm working towards.

Would that I had the confidence to leave the house with a crucifix necklace, Oakleys, bib overalls with no shirt, and a "SHOW ME THAT BUTTHOLE" trucker hat.

Those are Pit Viper glasses. You can wear Oakleys and not scream "douche nozzle" but Pit Vipers take you to the top of the bell tower and scream it to the whole town.

Fine. I just think assuming some guy who looks like white trash is MAGA is rooted in classist crap that's plagued this country for generations and may have even led to our current situation.

Well they should have chosen a different colour hat. Standard MAGA kit for a long time now, if they don't understand that then they're dumb. If they do, then they're MAGA and dumb. Not that I ever mentioned MAGA.

Not saying they're the enemy (no war but class war), but easily brainwashed people are likely dull and angry.

    I'm not in the USA.

    Anyway... have a great morning.

Nah. Fascism is not the fault of the victims. Victim blaming isn't going to get any traction around here.

Conservatism is pure evil. The life of a conservative traitor is genuinely valueless. No one here accused the guy in the photo of being a conservative. He just looks so much like a conservative that his photo makes for a great illustration of one in a conversation on Lemmy. If he were a real conservative, the only inoffensive images of him would be autopsy photos.
