I took the dogs out and was met by utter chaos. I just about avoided a falling apple and narrowly dodged a flying bio waste bin.

Joking aside, our area is not the worst affected by any stretch. I’m sure for many the storm is no joking matter. Stay safe, folks.

There seems to be a clear pattern of negative posts about the BBC. Certain accounts are at it on a daily basis. I find myself wondering why.

Some motives for such behaviour I could think of are:

• The BBC wrote a story that hurt them
• Reporting did not reinforce their world view
• They expected the BBC to be perfect and inevitable failures to meet that standard lead to disappointment
• They found the style of reporting annoying
• Perhaps some reporters were annoying

I’m sure that list is nowhere near exhaustive as my imagination is rather limited.

A cynic might think that something deeper is going on, for example, a systematic campaign to erode trust in the BBC. Perhaps such a campaign is not just limited to feddit.uk communities, as mightily influential as they are, and could be happening across social media.

Such a cynical person might further wonder what groups, organisations, or perhaps even states with well resourced intelligence organisations might want to mount such a campaign.

I’m not a cynic, and as mentioned don’t have much of an imagination, so such thoughts don’t even cross my mind.

I’m simply wondering why some people hate the BBC so much. For me it, with all its failings, is one of the best public broadcasting organisations in the world.

I managed to a copy of their job ad, so I thought I’ll share the main points here. Any takers?

What we expect:

• lies come to you naturally
• no self esteem whatsoever
• can deal with a stench
• longevity of at least a few mooches
• ability to ignore objections and plough on
• stealth-hiding in a bush is an advantage

Your qualifications:

• unequivocal devotion to the orange turd
• Fox News experience is not required, but we’ll pick one of them anyway

What we offer:

• well maintained lectern and a backdrop recognised globally
• luxury travel, occasionally as a decoy
• opportunity to let it rip without a worry of consequences

So there are worse revelations to come.

I just heard Streets of Philadelphia on radio, which made me think of movies where Tom Hanks is in a leading role. I could not think of one I’ve seen where he was not convincing in the role.

I think he is one of the very best actors we’ve seen. Disagree?

We’ve been on holiday with two dogs. The last few days have been so hot that we could go out with them only early in the morning. Thankfully the place we are staying has stone walls and seemingly good loft insulation that moderate temperature fluctuations.

How have you been coping?

People keep bashing this bridge and consequently parking where they shouldn’t. It’s locally known as the Britney Bridge: Hit me baby one more time!

There are so many things wrong with this I can’t even decide where to begin.

By the way, did you know Farage is proposing he should be the next PM.

I guess this post could go to the UK Public Transport community, but in reality this particular clusterfuck (among many others) belongs firmly to the Tories, so UK Politics it is.

May the Tories never escape the blame for truly shocking ineptitude with HS2. Their Government's early decisions in setting targets for the program (e.g. fastest train service in Europe) followed by political wrangling about the route with Tory heartlands have cost the UK tax payer tens of billions.

If you are making a cake, after baking the sponge layers and letting the cool down, maybe not leave them where the dogs can reach them when you leave the kitchen.

Nothing that a bit more buttercream can’t fix, mind.
