My first car was a golf. If you can DIY it’ll help a lot. Personally they have a reputation that isn’t exactly deserved. I’ve owned German cars and helped maintain Japanese cars. Brakes and oil and such are really a lot cheaper but some of the parts on the Japanese are shockingly expensive in comparison, once you get outside of the “regular maintenance” space.

I have two problems with Toyotas and Hondas. They’re too expensive for their age, and they’re soulless.

I am oversimplifying, but I believe there’s fundamental Philosophical differences between German, American, and Japanese engineering and construction. The Germans build things in a complex manner, often beyond the Pareto Principle. The result is that the thing is marginally superior, but requires regular, scheduled, and often complex and expensive maintenance. The Americans build things with a hammer and duct tape and the thing will work badly much longer than the German product will work. The Japanese build with fine tolerance and simplicity, and assuming not actual abuse and regular maintenance, will outlast them all. But it will be boring. When the business starts cutting costs, they all start to suck.

It looks like a bean to cup product and I mean that as a compliment. It is looking professional.

I am interested in getting espresso machine but I keep reminding myself I have no space for it and it will be one thing after the next chasing a better cup of coffee. Even if I cut my options and get a all in one sage - the next step will be the grinder breaking and I’ll be out shopping for a fancy grinder.

Moka pot is a good method if you can get it right!

Because they were available on the public Internet with a widely known easily guessable/brute-forceable password in 2026.

And then leaving them there after a well publicized breach happened?

If it was 2002 it would be embarrassing, but not unexpected. This is pure incompetence.

It’s got a long way to go still before it reflects reality.

Tsla has a PE of 380 with YoY degrowth over multiple years and no prospects of growth.

another 150K in Europe. In the same period BYD sold about 3 million EVs. Last MONTH (October) BYD sold 500K EVs.

I know this is solarDIY, but it seems like a good place for this anyways. Tl;dr is there a good way to integrate wind and solar without spending a bundle?

Sun only shines during the day, and as distances from the equator increase, day lengths get shorter, and cloudier, and angles get steeper. However, my location has steady prevailing winds. So much so, there’s a wind farm practically in the back garden.

Which has me thinking that instead of a ton of panels and a big battery bank (to make use of sunnier days), a little 1kw or so turbine would go a really long way - especially for steady and/or long-running loads like router/server/modem, refrigerator, heat pump…

I understand that wind turbines make some dreadful power and it tends to be AC. They’re also a bit of a pain to situate but that’s sorta secondary. Let’s say I spin up 10kw of solar, a pile of LiFe batteries, and an eg4 AIO with grid-tie. Is there a reasonable, and safe way to integrate wind? I know one guy who just hooked it straight to his batteries but they were lead acid, and they cooked in a storm. Gave him an excuse to get a big life system instead.
