Two years of a lame duck presidency would be a breath of fresh air after the last two.

It would be very funny to see the 2027 Congress pushing the bipartian "Infinity Money for Israel Act" which Trump vetos out of spite.

But like so much else with The Don, it's gonna be TACO Tuesday every time he suffers a marginal amount of pressure.

Pig Boy has been talking about cutting funding for Israel. It's not clear to me why, but it might be that he expects Netanyahu's coalition to lose power and he wants to punish the infinitesimally less genocidal opposition. Or he blames Netanyahu for the Iran war debacle and the US election wipeout. Of course, nothing can ever be Trump's fault.

    A party?

I mean, I suppose an entire planet erupting in celebration could be considered one singular party, but I'd say it'd be more like thousands or millions of smaller parties all occurring at once.

Maybe the tantrums at not getting what he wants would give him a heart attack. I was hoping the all the rallies would do that.

I still want my dog to live longer than Trump.

    Exactly.

Shit will stay bad, undeniably bad.

And I'm 2 years Dems get to campaign on hypotheticals for how much progressive policy would have helped if we had a progressive president.

The were looking at 2/3s majoritie to get a lot done, and insulation from remaining neoliberals who won't vote with the party

It's honestly the best path to super majorities, because we don't have to try and get some stuff accomplished the next two years, there's zero expectation that trump will let anything pass. So even if nothing gets fixed, it will still just help Dems.

Believe it or not, that's the ideal outcome short of impeachment.

The economy is fucked, and we have proof his government has been lying about the numbers. An obstructionist Trump lets Dems continue to rightly blame him for it, and Republicans with any luck take it on the chin again in 2028.

Of course, his voters will see it as dems being at fault for only passing bills that weren't any good (Trump didn't approve of them after all) and thus if dems get the majority in 2026, they'll be at fault for everything that happened in 2025-2026 in addition to already being at fault for everything negative that happened from 2017-2025.

And they will reelect him in 2028.

You're right, we should do absolutely nothing about all the idiotic bills this Congress has passed, including slashing ACA subsidies for everyone. Let's just let the moron do what he wants.

Somehow I don't think a slight majority Congress is going to lead the revolution, chief.

This is the system. What is supposed to happen is that Republicans put country and ethics over personal benefit and agree to vote in favor of impeachment from top to bottom, but that's not happening so it's a two year stalemate or a civil war.

    We'll see what happens next.

If it makes you feel better there's a lot of things Congress can do in terms of investigation and daily business he can't veto, it just means new bills won't be passed.

It'd be pretty cool if the Democratic Party had fewer Republicans in it. I suspect this Haley Stevens revelation today is but a visible pimple with a several-pound, teeth-and hair-laden conjoined twin lurking underneath. If true, expect more of the same from the orange scrotum.

  • source
  • [–] 28 points 5 days ago

I mean that implies he would not veto something if they did. Which is obviously not true. So an empty threat, keep voting.

  • source
  • [–] 26 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Also, frankly, what a lot of presidents pretty much do.

I guess the biggest problem is that usually stops short of the budget/debt ceiling bills, so if he sticks to his guns of 'veto no matter what', hard to see how budget bills can work anymore.

If you have 2/3rds of Senate, sure.

But short of getting a bunch of people willing to visibly undermine Trump from his own party, that's not going to happen. Keep in mind these were the same people who didn't like the optics of removing Trump even after he lost and was on his way out and actively incited a violent insurrection. If they won't even vote to remove what was presumed to be a dead-end politician on his way out of politics anyway, then they sure as hell won't go against him on a veto.

[Biden's term] mcconnell: "We're going to block any meaningful legislation just to make him look bad"

[orange pedo's 2nd term]the orange pedo: "if I don't get my way I'll veto everything the Dems try to pass"

So, an obstructionist. I thought if Americans have spoken, there was no recourse but to do what they want.

But that only seems to apply to conservatives, even if they don't get the popular vote, though.

When Democrats win, the cons do everything possible to obstruct.

  • His last Congress didn’t do anything useful, I’m doubtful the American people would realize a difference.

The filthy blues just have to call their shit, “the help working people bill” or “stop poisoning our water,” etc and JD will be hamstrung in 2028.

Veto away, Krasnov. By all means, please make Republicans look like incompetent fools for the next 2 years so we can sweep in 2028 too. After that, maybe finally we can get some shit done and prosecute the fascists (if the corporate masters are willing to indulge us, of course).

I’ll still vote for the Dems since fptp makes it the best option, but until we get a leftist yea party insurgency I expect them to dance for the corporate masters.

They did pass some bills, but not enough but didn't have enough majority and had to use a way to not need 2/3 to pass in senate, so we need enough majority to pass w/o tricks and not blame them for not enough majority and not able to pass what the majority of people want on several issues.

My entire life I have heard this.

Republicans come in with the slimmest majority and use every avenue to get their agenda passed.

Democrats come in with similar or better majorities and, shucks would you look at that, theres always a just enough turncoats to keep them from doing anything. Or maybe they could technically achieve their agenda through a reconciliation bill but tradition and custom are more important.

The sergeant at arms could actually enforce the subpoena by arresting people, but the congress hasn’t done that in over a century and certainly won’t do it now.

Seating that judge, well the senate has a long standing gentleman’s agreement that both senators from the state with the courthouse get a pocket veto and one of the republicans is using it.

Republicans come in and squeeze every iota of advantage past reason. Democrats play to the rules, then if they could still get something done play to an even stricter set of rules, then compromise for no reward.

And then I’m supposed to hear how they really really wanted to do good stuff but gee golly, once they got power they just couldn’t figure out how.

Judging by how he behaved in 2018 the last time he lost control of congress, he'll happily spend the rest of his term golfing.

He doesn't actually give a shit about being president, he just desperately wants to be on TV all the time.

Right, but that wasn't the 2025 plan, they told everyone what they were going to do and too much of the damage has been done. It takes longer and harder to rebuild it if Dems win president and enough majority in 28, but not counting on it unfortunately. I'd love to be wrong and they do make real progress if they win, but I'm way ahead and coming back to present moment, peace.

There is no end goal for this people but more money and more power. They are the embodiment of capitalism, there is no victory condition, there is no "enough". It's more more more more more forever, at any and all cost.

Like, a serial killer won't ever be like "ok I'm gonna kill ten people and I'm currently at eight, so just two more murders and I'm done! Gonna be so nice when it's over, I can just relax, pick up gardening..."
