One for soy sauce to come out, another for air to enter the bottle. It helps keeps the "flow" smooth.

Yeah it's the same reason your mom had to punch a second hole at the top of the Juicy Juice can before she could pour it into your sippy cup.

You must be old like me. :) I'm not sure I even have one of those punches anymore.

Mom would only let me drink juicy juice. No sodas at home. Also, she only bought me Raisin Bran (I talked her into Kellog’s since the raisins had sugar on them. Post wasn’t as good) or frosted mini-wheats (b/c dad liked them). I’m guessing back then juicy juice was as close to actual fruit juice as could be had? Never bothered to look.

Ah yes, the church key. Yeah I have one somewhere but never have a use for it.

I love that design. So utilitarian, so pretty.

Wise! I do that with Tabasco sauce.

Oh you just reminded me I saw Absolut Tabasco flavour in the grocery store the other day, I ought to try it. It sounds hilariously bad.

This sounds like the most logical answer.

The other one's for left-handed people.

So you can flip it upside down and you and a friend can both get a drink at the same time.

Might be for airflow to stop it going glug glug glug?

One side is regular soy sauce and the other is low sodium.

Because 3 would just be silly.

That’s because one is for right handed and the other one is for left handed.

When you empty it through the bottom hole, it draws air in through the top hole.

I would imagine one spout pours faster than the other so you can get a little less using one side than the other. But I've never seen this myself so it's just a guess.

Or maybe because it's entirely enclosed, one is so air can get in and it pours cleanly instead of bubbling out.

You use your finger on one side to affect the flow rate.

Put your finger over one and you can control the flow

After I learned this I stopped using those dispensers. I don't want to pour soy sauce through a spout that has been touched by ten thousand different unwashed hands.

Then I would never visit China ever if I were you. When I was there for 8 years, every foreigner (expat) would be vomiting non stop within the first 2 weeks, myself included. We saw people spiting on produce to make it look wet, dying spoiled grey meat to look red, people getting/skimming "gutter oil" out of trash cans and sewers to use for frying street food.

Case in point, if a finger on soy sauce is enough to make yo not use it, I wouldn't leave the west, it only gets worse. A lot worse.

??? I've been going there every few months for the last 2 years and haven't gotten sick. I do know a couple foreigners who got sick, one from cross-contaminated pre-cut fruit, and one from some diner they were invited to party at. I did have mountainside-clearing farts when I went to Korea the first time tho.

people getting/skimming “gutter oil” out of trash cans and sewers to use for frying street food.

Oil does not grow in sewers and trash cans. Old oil can be stored in cans buried in the sidewalk or in bins behind the shop. That oil is recycled for industrial processes, though there was an issue where people were buying that refined oil to use in food like a decade ago.

There's no reason to put oil in the old oil can and then take it out to reuse when you could just not take out the old oil.

The food safety isn't great in asia as a whole, but the gutter oil thing is taken massively out of context.

On the one hand (aha) only the air vent gets touched and so the spy sauce itself should be fine. But on the other hand, a lot of bottles don't distinguish between the air vent and the pouring nozzle and even on those that do you can guarantee that some dipshit will use them the wrong way around. Sooool, yeah. Great for home use.

it would not pour, if there was no other way for air to get in

For the airflow, you can block it with your finger to control the flow

That makes no sense. I just tried to pour out air and it’s soy sauce out of both holes.

The extra hole is for pouring your unused sauce back in the bottle.

Optimisation. Otherwise, they'd have to make separate bottles for right handed and left handed people. That way, a single bottle fits all
