I agree on the authenticity part. I don't think it should just be someone younger just because they are younger. They should also be progressive, authentic, and willing to put in the work. But I do think it's important to engage younger voters as well. Also in terms of long term strategy and collaboration, how much of a set back could Bernie passing away do?

I am not naive to think that we can end factory farming tomorrow. Like you said, it's something that will happen gradually (but not too slow I hope). I am not aware of any animal product for which there aren't already alternatives. Do you have examples?

As for the bivalve discussion, while they do not have brains, the do have a very limited nervous system that can react. For example, oysters close up in the presence of predators like crabs. I think it is an individual decision of where to draw the line in this circumstance. I do not eat bivalves.

As for the sustainability aspect, I do not think they would be more sustainable than plant based alternatives like soy and lentils, especially given the existing infrastructure. To harvest bivalves in the quantities needed if you removed all other animal for sources would likely be devastating for the ecosystem. Meanwhile, 83% of agricultural land use goes to animal feed. Yet animals account only for 37% of consumed protein and 18% of consumed calories. That means that if we convert all the land usage dedicated for animal feed to human crops, we would have more than plenty for all humanity without even using all the currently used land.

    Hi all,

I am running proxmox on a mini PC with a handful of services in my stack. I also run NPM in an LXC to reach my services through my domain name (service.domain.tld).

For my Arr related stuff, I use Usenet, and everything runs through a VPN.

I have three services which are public. Jellyfin, Seer and BookOrbit (for syncing Kobos).

Currently I have no security besides the built in login managers from the services, but I am considering setting up Authentik. I know I'm asking for trouble with my current set up.

I have elderly and extremely tech averse family members who live in two countries other than me, so tech support can be a challenge.

A lot of people suggest running a VPN, but it would be difficult for my family and I don't know how to make it work syncing our Kobos with BookOrbit.

I've also seen some posts about tunneling to a VPS somewhere and users can connect to the VPS without a VPN.

I feel this question has been asked several times, and I tried searching here and on the internet in general, but my knowledge is not good enough to use the right terms and to get something that is idiot proof.

Any suggestions on best practices or links to guides you recommend would be much appreciated. Also, what EU based affordable VPS would you recommend?

First things first, I don't doubt it is a bad thing, considering who supports it and who doesn't.

But my question is what exactly is the issue and what is the current and proposed voting process when it comes to IDs?

Here in my EU country, you have to show some version of a government ID, be it an ID card, drivers license or passport. And we don't have to pre-register to vote.

    Hey everyone,

I know there are a lot of questions about best email providers, but they usually boil down to general questions about privacy and reliability. I have specific questions that I could not find answers to.

I've had a Proton Duo plan for my wife and me for about 2 years now. My wife has low tolerance for tech that is not user friendly and works easily. It took a while to migrate all our emails and passwords to Proton and a lot or accounts to passmail aliases, but now we are happy with how the service works.

We both also have our own domains for our main email, and I recently bought another domain to migrate our aliases to. The reason behind this is to ease future migrations if whatever service we use enshitifies. I know that privacy is reduced by using my own domain for aliases, but it's a consequence I accept to avoid being tied to a single service and to make migration easier in the future.

For that reason, I've been burying my head in the sand about what has been happening at Proton. However, with recent news of Proton's partnership with ETH Zurich and of Proton re-evaluating employee performance based on their AI usage, I can no longer look away.

So here is the ask. I want to migrate to one or more services to specifically replace the functionality I described above. Here are the features that are important to me:

    • Services that support multi-user accounts, where I can be the admin and manage our domains.
    • Ability to assign domains for specific user accounts.
    • Ease of use for users to create aliases on the fly within the password manager.
    • European hosted and privacy focused, with good encryption.
    • Preferably open source clients.

My domains are hosted by Infomaniak, and I've considered them, Tuta and Mailbox.org for email providers. Not sure about the best alias generator, but I heard good things about addy.io

I already self-host a lot of services, so for password management, I was thinking about Vaultwarden with an integration to an alias generator. For the few services I host that are accessible outside my network, I use a reverse proxy (NPM), with Authentik for authentication. I am thinking about setting up NetBird as well.

Finally, I am ok paying a reasonable amount for the services.

If I am way off base, I am also happy to hear suggestions about better ways to set things up.

    Thanks in advance

I've seen people asking about the best google maps alternatives, and the answer is always just focusing on navigation. For that we have plenty of great apps like CoMaps.

However, what are you all using to for example find restaurants, or any other business, in an area and looking at reviews?

Hi all, I am ready to break free from consoles and want to run Bazzite on a PC connected to my living room TV. I have questions though about how to deal with multiple people having different profiles and different save files for games, while sharing the same Steam library.

I read that Bazzite Desktop allows for different linux user profiles, but does not boot straight to game mode, whereas Bazzite Deck does not allow multiple linux user profiles, but does boot straight to game mode.

I guess the question is, is it possible to set up things in a console like way where the game library is shared, but each user can have their own separate save files?

Thanks in advance for the help!
