Interestingly someone employed in a highly-sought-after profession may be more financially stable and well-off than a struggling small company owner, even if the latter employs others.

Or to take an example from my wider family: A lady in her 70s (with a more well-off relative securing the loan) managed to buy a small flat to rent out on AirBnB. If not for this, her state pension would not be enough to cover her food and bills, and no one hires older women where she lives. (And she has no savings to speak of.) Like, she's technically a landlord now, but even with the AirBnB income she's barely scraping by, so I can't really see her as bourgeois.

Btw is it just me or parboiled rice tastes much worse than regular rice? Granted I've been avoiding it like the plague in the last two decades, but I have some bad memories of how flavourless and weird-textured it was.

(And since I learned the trick of cooking rice in salty, olive-oily water that I wait to boil away/absorb, that's all I do, the end result tastes amazing compared those sad plastic bags of rice we cooked in my childhood.)

    Non-paywall mirror

Sexy werewolves, boy-toy mafiosos, homeless guys who are secretly billionaires: Welcome to the world of the microdrama.

Each episode is short, soapy and over-the-top, and studios are churning them out for cheap. Hundreds of millions of people are watching them.

Are 60-Second Microdramas the Future of Hollywood, or the End?

I found this piece quite funny despite how depressing the topic is.

43-54 minutes read according to Firefox.

I open a post, "Making sure you're not a bot!".
I scroll down to the comment section, it's replaced by "Making sure you're not a bot!". (This doesn't go away, no matter how long I wait.)
I open the communities dropdown, it's replaced by "Making sure you're not a bot!"

The site is nigh unusable this way :/ Is it under a bot attack? I guess I'll come back tomorrow.
