My experience is with stopping drinking soda, not alcohol, so not quite the same. What helped me is just to reiterate all the bad effects it had on me, like acid reflux, teeth hurting, sugar crash an hour later and long term health effects. When I wanted to "reward" myself after surviving a sucky day, I would remind myself that it is not a reward, it is hurtful and leads to me feeling more sucky in the long term. And I deserve better than that.

Dogs can be like that too. We have learned to pick up microchanges in our dogs walking pattern to find out when he hurt his paw. Like dude, just tell us so we can take care of the sharp rock between your toe pads that is causing you to bleed. Wouldn't find out he was sick unless it starts affecting his digestion.

My boyfriend, otherwise we wouldn't still be going strong over 10+ years. Even though he is absolutely not in touch with his own feelings and has trouble understanding mine sometimes, when I communicate once what I need from him in a certain situation, he remembers and he is always there.

Very boring but probably not much would change. Thousands of people die every day in car accidents (One every 26s in 2016 according to WHO) and yet no one acts as if driving to work is so terrifying. 1 person worldwide dying per day is such a teeny tiny risk compared to that. Probably you do have a bigger chance of winning the lottery than of getting killed by the hand.
