If you and your partner can actually actively do this, nothing will stop you.

    Challenge accepted.

I shall become the opposite of a superhero. I shall be the Galvanizer. Any marriage that can withstand my antics shall be deemed strong and true. But woe upon those who cannot!

No. I've known too many bastards like that.

    Fair.

Maybe I’ll limit scope to subjecting couples to the tests of shopping at ikea and Costco, or deciding what’s for dinner when you both got home later than usual.

Ah, yes, the real reason microwaves took off: hangry fuckitol. 😅

Also, Ikea seems like the bunny slope of the two options. If you like horse, ofc. At Costco, you can feel your humanity leeching away by the second, and the "food" court doesn't lie one bit, either.

    Effing Costco.

Ours is a stone's throw from Sam's - I'd much rather go to Sam's. It's so much less stressful.

Between the tight aisles and oblivious, self-absorbed people at Costco, it really strains my misanthropic side.

I hear ya, and I recognize my good fortune to have a family-owned discount grocery just blocks away. (and, no box stores <7mi)

Every single membership store I've ever been in has made me physically ill, and I'm not easily queasy. (Nike, Columbia, etc. incl.)

    Hard pass. 😅

This is great advice, but you should always remember that it's not a hard rule. Unfortunately, sometimes your partner is the problem. It happens, and it can be really hard to just move on

When I get hangry or really upset and I can't manage to be nice to my partner in the moment, I always try to at least let him know he is not the problem, the world is.

One of the best things that my parnter and I try to do, is say things like "I'm sorry, I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at $x" or "I'm sorry, I'm just really hangry right now, can we talk about this later?"

When I say those things, not only does it help my partner understand, it also helps me internalize how true it is.

Desmond Tutu had a good take on this in his interview on Late Late Night With Craig Ferguson. He said just say sorry, it’s the hardest and easiest thing to say no matter what.

I find I prefer the term partner to wife or spouse.

Partner implies a team, spouse as a word has been abused for generations to vary from someone you’re just stuck with and hate to someone you own as basically property.

I just don’t associate marriage with any meaning other than partner, teammate, the person who I get through all of life’s problems with and the person who shares in all of my joys.

Sometimes the problem is one of them. Or both.
