Hello everyone,

I am Mr. Flightmussy and the creator of the website Movie Scene Map. It is mainly a movie site, but there are also many locations where video games are set.

Maybe I added them since I really liked gaming when I was younger and that I am nostalgic. On the map, there are currently 1826 games with 690 locations.

I am partly posting here because I want everyone to check the website and partly because I want feedback so that I can improve Movie Scene Map.

I am especially struggling with finding posters for video games, because this counts as a commercial project although it does not have any revenue yet.

It will take several months before I earn any money, where I could finally afford better equipment and proper licenses. Meanwhile, I want to make Movie Scene Map better in every single way I personally can.

Every single comment will be considered to make Movie Scene Map better. Basically, I let the community decide the direction of the project while I sit in the basement and do the development.

I understand that this might be a promotion post, so please delete this if you want to.

Best regards, Mr. Flightmussy

Big Walk was set in Wilson's Prom at the southern tip of mainland Australia.

Cool project. I hope it takes off. I can't tell how to filter for games by location? The movies function looks great.

To get the map to only show video game locations, you can open up the panel and toggle off other types of entertainment. What I have not done yet, is to make the hover cards only show video games if the user decide to only toggle on video games (I am going to fix that now since I have some time to kill and I totally forgot about it).

I might have made the map panel a bit too complicated. I got inspired by old Mercedes dashboards and Japanese machine buttons for the panel.

I also want to say thank you!

    On phone:

Very cool, and yeah, I expected the list to only show games when I filtered by games, nice to know it's coming.

Really liked the project, not just the game filter, is there a way to submit some missing media? (I know of a movie that was recorded in a small city so I know it's not listed there).

This should be live now! (where if I press on games then it only shows on games on the hover card). I totally forgot about the filters since I have been so busy the last weeks.

I guess I have time to do changes for the filter section, so that everyone gets to actually use it. It is a pretty bad sign that you had to ask for instructions. I have to make it visible somehow without taking up extra space on the map.

You can just post a comment here or send a mail to ceoflightmussy@gmail.com for submitting. Anyways, I will scoop and try my best to deal with it. That is basically how Movie Scene Map has grown, I am not a genius, but smart enough to scoop up all feedback and let it decide the project.

    It's working now, thanks.

Just FIY, I'm not the person who asked about the filters, using them was very intuitive for me, but I expected the results when I click on a location to be filtered as well and when I came to say nice project and suggest that change I saw the comment above where you mentioned it.

I think it is very fair to expect them to work perfectly. Although challenging it is super fun to create those features and make it actually work. Especially whenever pressing surprise, they should only show productions for the toggled on filters.

I am going to say thank you very much because otherwise I would not have thought about them at all.

One of the reasons why I sometimes create "promotional posts" is to get perspectives such as yours because they are so valuable for me and Movie Scene Map.

Mixed feeling to see my place of living have literally nothing, of any media, in much big area around, yet would say my town is quite big, have some culture evenings and some history. Goods and bads.

    Thanks for sharing.

I think this is more of a data problem. I struggle to get data for certain places. Licensing is not easy to deal with. Therefore, I mostly rely on Wikipedia for now.

For example there are many dots in Finland because they have governmental database which I am free to use. Hence, a lot of data in Finland even if it is a country of only 5,6 million people.

Even so, if there would be any big stuff this or that place, not many, but even one, then wiki would have a note on the scene too.

It's ok to not include everything, even smallest things.

Like, my place possibly was a hero to some viral stupid clip from internet, more infamous than anything positive... but no need to include that in the big awesome list of big awesome scenes.

Thanks for calling it a awesome list!

I want to just get all filming locations and maybe some more video game locations + anime because that is fun and I can relate to it as well. Therefore, I go for the easiest ones before trying more complicated things to get more and more locations. I am also using feedback as a way to help me to do that.

Pacific Drive is set on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, US.

Liberty City is a stand-in for New York City. Not sure why it is placed in Moses Lake/Warden, WA.

I am not hiding it so here you go:)

If there is anything specific I might be able to improve it so that it becomes better.

Learn how to modify a CSS file. Not that hard to remove that AI slop veneer.

Thanks for the advice, I will see how I can make it better because everything is Ai slop nowadays. Even Apple or Facebook.

What I am focusing on mostly is the user experience on the interactive map and making it fun to use. I agree with you that there is a lot that needs further polishing.

Perhaps I am moving to fast but I like to experiment and then polish based on feedback. It makes it a lot easier for me to do something rather than be afraid to do something due to mistakes.

I am working from a shitty as used laptop at the basement right now. I hope that you get the chance to test out Movie Scene Map in a few months when I have more resources to actually create the best possible product.

Throwback: There was a very big bug because Movie Scene Map is doing an integration with Playwire today. The hover card on the desktop was going below the screen. This should be fixed now and I apologize to everyone for the bug.

Do you have some plot behind it? Like the psychological meaning for these concentrations based on culture, politics, etc?

Tho i believe you wont get much data from countries that don't want to expose it.

And if the plit is a secret, keep it secret to surprise us later with a final product/movie/etc :)

I'm gonna make a game set in Central African Republic and Nunavut and I'll absolutely clean up.

    Yeah this is cool.

SceneGuesser is great. Just wish the map showed city names while playing SceneGuesser as it can be kind of hard to find a location even if you know the movie and know what city it was shot in.

Edit: Checked out the trailer for one of the movies filmed in my area in 1986. Recognized a building and found it on Google Earth looking exactly the same. Actually right around the corner from me right now. Maybe some of Demi Moore's hotness is still lingering in the air. Gonna go over there and inhale deeply and hope no one calls the cops or medics.

I really need to get my Perth-based scuba diving game finished one day, it's been in the works for 3 years now

Let's gooo! Just work on it and forget about expectations. The concept sounds really cool.

From my experience it is important to let as many people try out your game, and adjust your game according to the feedback. This way, you save a lot of time and you get to improve it a lot due to different perspectives. It does not need to be perfect at the beginning as long you are active improving it.

This way you get the best results for the scuba diving game. This is my approach for how I work on my projects, although I must assume that video games are a lot more difficult than websites.

Which game is set in the middle of the Canadian prairies?

Those are probably all games in Canada that have not yet gotten a specific location yet. Especially games I struggle to pinpoint to a specific location, so it is just pinpointed as Canada for now. This applies for many countries.

I recommend another projection than the Mercator at this point, maybe Equal Earth, it's growing on me.

I think this is a very valid comment since there is this debate. The reason why I do not use Equal Earth is that there is not a lot of data in Africa, while there is a lot of data in Europe.

I want the points to be well represented on the map. Otherwise, there would have been big empty spaces in the global south. Hence, I use the old inaccurate projection.

I never played that PS3 alien invasion game that had a level in Manchester Cathedral and various other random English locations.
