I can't believe William shatner outlived him.
Shatner is 9 years older.
Well as if it wasn't enough bad news already! Shatner is still alive! /s
:(
Of all the celebrity deaths, I think this one I feel the most. I won't say I'm sad, Patrick Stewart lived an awesome life, and I'm glad to hear he didn't have to battle Alzheimers or Lewy body Dementia for a long time.
RIP to an amazing actor who played amazing roles, and who lived a full life that we should all strive for.
Lewy Body Dementia is what Robin Williams had, and why he killed himself. It's vicious.
From the statement it sounds like it wasn't a long battle with it, which if true would be for the best.
That was my first thought as well. You're right, I think the statement said something like "a brief and poignant battle" and honestly the briefer the better.
I think he went out on his own terms. Logically highly likely.....he wasn't ill for long, it doesn't usually work that way with dementia. Poignant is an interesting word to use describing his battle.
Truly hope so, if that was his will, tricky ground when will itself is compromised. As someone with that in my family and potentially my future, I would truly appreciate the mercy of an easy self directed end at a time of my choosing. We however do not live in an enlightened future and euthanizing the inconvenient is right up the nazi alley.
RIP, Captain.
Make it not so =(
May his tombstone be forever illuminated by exactly four lights.
Rest in peace
I'm not usually one to get emotional about celebrities but this one sucks. RIP legend.
Many of my favourite moments in all of media are of this, out of place, British/French/Space man, speaking softly and at length about morality and the human experience. He still continues to give me hope that Humanity can eventually surpass the greed, hate and fear that hold us all down. Hopefully, we can see a glimpse of it in our lifetime.
Let's see what's out there.
My favorite thing he's done was dressing down James Corden in front of a live mic. Captain, my captain, forever.
I'm so glad we got one last go around with Picard in Season 3 while he was still here. I was just watching Unification: Part I last night and enjoying this scene:
B'iJik: How would it benefit the Klingon Empire? I'm sure Gowron will ask.
Picard: The only benefit to the Klingon Empire would be our gratitude.
B'iJik: That is what you want me to tell him?
Picard: Yes. And please add that, if he is unable to provide us with a ship, then I am sure there are others in the Klingon Empire who would be willing to help me. And then... they would have our gratitude.
B'iJik: [long pause] I see.
Picard: Also, please tell Gowron that I am immensely gratified that he is prospering so well. A tribute to his skilled leadership.
The scene were he was speaking to Sarek as he wasted away on his deathbed hits differently now, too.
Terrible day for rain.
It's always a hard thing to deal with the death of someone you care for. It's a weird thing to feel so much sorrow for someone you never knew.
But here I am crying because I really loved him and he will never know how much his art has meant to me.
Sad days
Sorry to see him go, but I'm happy we got to see him, and the others, once again in Picard.
GOD DAMN IT. I BLAME Q.
I think you maybe included the wrong link.
A great actor, and a decent human. Rest peacefully Captain. You've earned it.
Interesting post description
No idea what that's all about. I initially posted with the wrong link (a random youtube page I was watching), and edited to the correct link. Somehow this post is now Finnish or something.
Edit: I added an image to the body, and it's better now.
Fred Rogers taught us to love ourselves and be good to each other.
Robin Williams taught us to laugh and have wit.
Sir Patrick Stewart taught us to have wonder and to have hope for and help work towards a better future.
What a dark day. His loss is immeasurable, but like those who came and left before him, what he has given us will live on forever.
May you rest in peace, Sir. And to his family and friends, my heart goes to you on this day, October 28th, 2026.
Downvote away but I'm not particularly sad. He lived a great life and died at a fair age. If anything had been different, I'd worry that we wouldn't have gotten the same guy.

This is going to get voted into oblivion, But I think NG is pretty dull, and Piccard even duller.
Edit: I wrote that the fictional character is dull, not that Mr. Stewart was. I think he was a good actor, and seemed a nice guy.
People in this thread seem to confuse the character with the actor.
Bad timing on my part, though.
I'm a complete asshole who has opinions. I'm not asshole for having those opinions, but I'm an asshole for sharing those opinions in the wrong place and wrong time. please don't downvote me for being a dumbass asshole who can't understand social context and etiquette.
you will rightfully earn those downvotes.

Even if you think something is true, run it through a few other checks before saying it. Your statement would fail most of the checks you should be making, even if you believe it to be true.
Sir/madam, this is a place of mourning. Please kindly fuck off.
You've missed a perfectly good opportunity to not do that at this time and place.
The mention that his illness struggle was brief is the absolute only bright spot of today's news. And even that sucks, but best for his family.
I think he had declined a little over the last years, but watching interviews of him years ago about Star Trek... he got it. He understood the bigger message behind the scifi parts of the story. Others did too to some degree, but watching him talk about it was gold. And to think that he walked into the show in the beginning and thought it was both a mistake and a short-lived thing. He was a big part of why it did so well.
Damn, why do all the cool people keep dying.
I was hoping it was a hoax when I saw the community name. RIP as you explore a frontier many have travelled before but none have told about.
