Mate, they have fucking nutella pizzas in Italy.
post
Fun fact, “Hawaiian” pizza with pineapple was invented at Satellite Pizza in Chatham-Kent, a small town in rural Ontario, Canada.
Hawaiian pizza, invented by a Greek in Canada!
If it was invented in Hawaii, it would just be called pizza (in Hawaiian)
I think actual Italians wouldn't mind that much. Have you seen the original pizzas? They're mostly fruit.
Oh? Interesting.
What type of combinations would they make?
i've seen kiwi and banana, personally
One could argue that Tomato is a fruit.
Oh were arguing this now? I thought it was like confirmed and done, its a fruit. Pretty cool
It's confirmed and done
Damn. Don't know whether to upvote for Pic or downvote for the text. My head is spinning.
I saw this meme for the first time nearly a decade ago but it still makes me laugh.
My favorite pizza was a BLT, now I'm a veggie and make LT pizza with mayo and it's close but not the same. The fake impossible chicken is getting pretty good, but no fake beacon I've tried comes close.
Hawaiian pizza was actually invented by a Greek immigrant in Canada, oddly enough
Nothing odd about that.
The reason why America has the best food is because of this. Wave after wave is immigrants from all over the world over several hundred years, bringing their food culture, adapting, mixing with indigenous food, feeling free to experiment, and mixing with other cultures.
Just don't call me out because "Canada". I love Canada, have a Canada escape plan, and appreciate the differences. It's that there's much more culture shock going to various parts of the US than their geographically similar places in Canada.
The reason I called it odd is because a food named after Hawaii is neither invented in Hawaii nor by a Hawaiian
I am compelled. When poor Italians came to the US way back in the day, they were getting jobs where they made a bit more money which allowed them to basically unlock a lot more toppings than they used to use in Italy. They would add all sorts of weird things. I don't recall anyone using pineapple at that time but if they had access to it I'm 100% sure they would've tried bc it matched the spirit of their other toppings ventures. Anyway, pineapple, bacon bits, and jalapeño is a really good combo.
I don't recall anyone using pineapple at that time...
Vampire spotted!
You don't recall eh, you over a 100 years old? In all seriousness pineapple on pizza originated in Canada.
One of my grandparents is an Italian immigrant and it’s very much this. Grew up with “here try this” and “have more” because they’d be damned if anyone under their roof went hungry or felt like they had to hold back. They also like all sorts of pizza toppings, because they had to eat nothing but dandelions while hiding from Nazis.
Having grown up poor myself I’m a lot the same way as an adult, too. If someone wants food or drink in my home or while out with me they get it, no questions asked. Adventurousness is encouraged, and a happy belly means I did my job right.
The other way round. Americans are actually quite conservative when it comes to pizzatoppings. Most Americans have never heard of tuna or potatoes as toppings for example. They seem to stick to a handful of different meats, and that is basically it. There is a lot more variety in other countries, and also in Italy in particular.
They cook pineapple incorrectly on pizza. It needs to cook for a long time at a low heat to properly caramelise.
It's funny, my issue with it has always been that they add ham with it. Fuck that, give me pepperoni and some sort of (not shitty green bell) pepper like a jalapeno or banana pepper and pineapple is great.
Canned or fresh peaches?
Peaches come from a can
Store bought canned peaches are trash because they can them before they are ripe and this they are just tasteless and crunchy. If you actually can your own peaches they are pretty tasty.
So peaches in season are good but the rest of the year my own canned peaches are great.
I actually used frozen ones that were slightly thawed and patted dry... Speaking of dry, maybe dehydrated ones would be good too?
I fucking love pineapple on pizza, so long as the pizza is fresh and not frozen.
So I used to be opposed to pineapple on pizza, because I was a prick purist.
Then a friend who got me to try pineapple jalapeño pizza. That sweet and spicy mix changed me, and I've become much more adventurous with food in general.
My new outlook on weird food is that if it seems like a weird pairing but is somewhat popular, it's probably amazing.
Unless it has cilantro. Keep that soapy weed out of my food.
Peaches you say? I'm gonna have to give that a go because pineapple is unironically one of the best pizza toppings for me.
