Norway of all places. The country with some of the best ratings for quality of life, education, safety and nearly every other metric.

The reason, I’ll bet, is that people who are happy and well cared for are more difficult to exploit, which is the only metric his psychopathic brain cares about.

Imagine being so dumb you think you deserve a peace prize for funding a genocide, starting wars and having a lawless Gestapo kidnapping people and dragging them to concentration camps for minor civil infractions

I visited Norway a couple years ago. It was a god damn fairy tail. Waterfalls and fjords everywhere. Pristine rivers, mountains and forests. Clean air and water. Amazing restaurants and public transportation. Everyone spoke English. I would live there...easy. My only complaint is it is a bit expensive but the quality of live trade off would be worth it.

    Everyone spoke English.

I get what you’re trying to say but saying this feels wrong. It just bothers me when Anglophones present this as some measure other nations should strive for.

I spent 12 most learning Norwegian. I never had to use it once. My grandfather spoke it, but was a bit stubborn so we never learned it. I was more stating basically everyone in Norway speaks the English, which is nice for many international travelers as it is a common denominator for communication. Norwegian is not very useful as a second or third language, but I did enjoy it.

  • If you were to move to Norway, knowing how to speak Norwegian would be socially beneficial. While just about every Norwegian can carry a conversation in English, it's mentally taxing enough that side conversations between Norwegians are done in Norwegian soon enough. And then it's only a matter of time until the main conversation is done partly in Norwegian.

I've seen a lot of international students feel left out, not because the Norwegians want to exclude them, but because it's less socialy draining to talk in the same language you think in.

I doubt donnie dumbass even thought about it that hard or knows any of that.

He is just a man-baby throwing more ketchup on the wall because the black man got a prize and he didn't. He will just never get over so many things - Obama having two terms and getting a prize that he didn't being fairly high on the list.

I wish any reporter would ask Trump a simple question like, "Can you say a number between 500 and 1000?" or "What is the capital of the United States?" or "Name a country in North America."

I for one feel very satisfied that Trump hates us. I take it as a huge compliment.

Nothing has grossed me out more than when Trump years ago said he wanted more Norwegian immigrants and less immigrants from "shithole countries."

As a Norwegian, I would never call it health "insurance". It's just part of the social security that we pay taxes for.

Well, the state is acting as a single payer for all health care its populace needs. The money is not going from you directly to the service provider. An example of that would be you paying someone to rotate your tires. Rather, the state is providing payment to the doctor for services provided to treat your health care needs. Thus, the state is acting as an insurer whose premium is the taxes you pay. You just get a whole lot of extras for the premium you pay (like road work, disaster relief, penalizing criminality, etc.). That is a textbook example of insurance.

*Edit: for those of you who doubt what I say, I ask you to look at history to as an illustration. When the US was last trying to adopt universal care under Obama, who was it that dumped the buckets of money on advertising to water it down to a mere marketplace from Romneycare? It was the private insurance companies. What was the main reform that got adopted in that in lieu of state coverage? That the insurance companies could no longer deny people with pre-existing conditions.

I mean, the state provides public schools, free for all aged ≈5-18, but we don’t call it “education insurance.”

But, yeah, at a conceptual level, society is ultimately a safety net (synonym for insurance) when compared to the individualism from living pre-stone age.

but they're not synonyms either lol. Insurance is a very specific thing. It doesn't just mean "Anytime you collectivize costs" or "a safety net". It's a specific business model used to cover specific losses of specific things.

So, are you saying that the USA's healthcare and quality of life is worse than that of a shithouse country?

Because our healthcare and quality of life is inferior to Norway's. According to... everybody but you, you blathering dingus

Trump made the comments while complaining to the audience in Port Huron, Michigan, that the Nobel Peace Prize was won by a “woman nobody had ever heard of.” “I said ‘What about me? Do they do two of them?’ Think of it, I settled, so I’m not in love with Norway. Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually,”.

Thus in his mindset he's worse than some unknown loser girl. Let's give the orange one the benefit of the doubt. He's indeed much worse. So who is she?

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law. Navi Pillay’s commitment to universal legal principles and her firm moral compass are constants in a long career. ... Today Navi Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice in the case where Myanmar stands accused of genocide. Link: https://www.nobelpeaceprize.org/press/press-releases/nobel-peace-prize-for-2026

Ok sure, that's an easy win. Besides sucking up to other genocidal maniacs in this World, Trump neither has a moral compass nor legal principles.

So much of the web became a hot mess in the past 20 years or so. Sure, some sites had popups and tried to force you to watch some Flash intro and so on, but we need so much compute just to read text on a screen due to all the shit being injected into the mix, and all for ads, mostly. What the fuck do I even need Javascript for (as a user) to read news? There is no real legit need for JS bullshit to be running in such a scenario, at least from the reader's perspective.

A great example of enshittification. Browsing the web without a defensive posture (using something like FF + blackhole + VPN + ublock origin + Noscript, etc.) becomes so infuriating.

I had to laugh when the same people that brought us enshittification constantly try to mock and deride "old" tech like RSS so that the clueless will drift away from such things, if they even knew about it at all.

I just need to render text and pictures to read news sites. Maybe follow a link to a video. Why do I need a great big ball of JS scripts running on my machine to accomplish that?
