The games I like and are popular tend to be fruits of passion, sometimes obsession. And in most postmortem talks I watched the main creator went "I thought this would be fun, so I wanted to make a game of it" or "I liked X so I wanted to play a game with it."

In most cases it is a kind of egoistic artistic pursuit that stops at nothing until they can realize their game.

I've never heard anyone mentioning "engagement" or "AAA" or any of that MBA fluff they blabb during game presentations.

Isn't it funny how people like this suddenly gain convictions the very moment they're no longer in a position to change things?

    Happens with Republican politicians constantly.

There’s a transcript of the whole panel in the article, but I just read the summary by the panel moderator at the top of the article.

It seemed super detached from where I see the gaming landscape. Doug Bowser says indie and double-AA titles should use AI as a way to bridge the gap between them and the big players. Yuck.

And the Sony chair buzzed about how good GTA6 would be for the industry. That doesn’t match the “not taking risks” summary storyline. I stopped reading after that.

    Congratulations on finishing Fallout 3!

Wow. 50 hours already in Bleach? With the other games you are playing, I was expecting much less.

Oooh, whistling thing sounds pretty cool. Not useful for me, but still. Pretty happy with the reception the game is getting. Also a bit sad that I haven't been able to play yet.

Still working on Keroro RPG: Kishi to Musha to Densetsu no Kaizoku. Aiming to finish my first JRPG before I take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3 next month.

I have finished Fallout 3. It's finally done, as done as I set out to be with it. I was kinda hoping to have some kind of boss battle against an Enclave controlled Liberty Prime, but I guess boss battles aren't really a thing they even tried to implement. Technically, the final boss in the original story is a guy you can easily headshot with VATS but I wouldn't say it was intended to be that. The most striking thing to me in hindsight is how small the world felt. I'm sure this was considered huge when the game released, but it felt rather compact to me. In a good way, as I was still able to remember the moments I lived through when I passed by old locations. I'm surprised there weren't more quests though! In total, the game has 17 side quests that are actually being tracked like quests, which is a ridiculous number for a game like this! A lot of places just exist for existence's sake and there could have been more to them.

But overall, I had a very good time and I'm glad I gave the game a second attempt!

I also finished the story mode of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls! I didn't think I'd ever spend 50 hours in a story mode of a FIGHTING GAME, but here we are! And I'm technically not even done yet, I still have to go back and do some extra challenges that unlocked to get the last of the secret stories.

In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, I fought Malfestio and reached 4-Star in Village. I was wondering what the confusion status was going to look like in this game and it was in fact the worst case scenario I could imagine: he reverses your controls! I hope they bring him back to a modern game, though. There aren't a lot of birds in Monster Hunter that are genuinely just birds!

So now I have to tackle a lot of 4-Star quests that repeat previous monsters before I want to move on to new things. Last time I played, I suddenly felt a lot more comfortable with the controls for some reason. I guess I finally learned to play more patiently. When simply turning around is this much of a commitment, just swinging once and retreating just works a lot better.

And then there's this little hidden gem absolutely nobody else is playing right now called Ocarina of Time. I avoided all gameplay footage as soon as the gameplay demonstration left Kokiri Forest. I've seen enough and wanted to experience the rest myself. And I am blown away!

I love how faithfully they brought back all the silly background characters, like Beard Guy. And how the citizenry naturally transitions between day and night. I've been going out of my way to find all the little things from the original game and unless it broke the fourth wall, it's still there. I went all the way back to Zelda with the Keaton mask, but she no longer references Star Fox. I get it, but it's a shame! But there are a lot of good changes: Dampe's graveyard game is no longer awful, for example. And there are very tiny things, too. Like the block to open the boss door in Dodongo's Cavern no longer landing flush with the wall so you no longer have to pull it out before pushing it. Okay, now I'm starting to sound like a crazy person...

One of the things I was most curious about were the Redeads. And, well... holy shit. I have no other words.

But the coolest thing I didn't even know about is the game being able to pick up sounds through the microphone (which I don't even know where it is) to let you play ocarina songs buttonless. I'm just whistling them and the game actually recognizes them! Except the Sun's Song. That one always takes a few tries.

I'm generally very slow at playing games nowadays, but I have a feeling I'll be at least almost done by next week. I am twelve again!

Playing OoT and very relieved that between the better frame rate and controllable camera, controlling young Link isn't giving me the happy go pukeys.

Still annoyed that the controller is next to impossible to get.

Phelpssan mentioned that game doesn’t require precise platforming, and is more about finding the path to clear the level. To which I would like to say, Objection!

In my defense, I'm coming from MIO which requires a LOT more precision 😀. Celeste felt very forgiving compared to it.

    Playing Library of Ruina!

This is a deckbuilding game that gets a lot of praise for its excellent gameplay, OST, visuals and VN-style storyline... but is also known for being extremely long (100h+), complex and challenging - "the difficulty curve is vertical" is a famous joke about it.

Early impressions are good. The story got me hooked immediately, the gameplay is enjoyable, though the learning curve was higher than I expected and had me taking breaks to search the web for guides during the early hours. The UI on the Switch is clunky, but I got used to it after a while. Some text is really small and might be annoying to read in handheld mode (in particular in the OG Switch with the smaller screen), but since I'm playing on a big TV it isn't bothering me much.

Given the size of the game and the fact that it makes for good shorter sessions where you do 1-2 encounters I'll probably be playing it as a side-game for a while.

    Playing Final Fantasy Resonance!

Amazon kept delaying my order, ended up cancelling and getting from another store. Started over from the beginning instead of importing my Demo save, and loving it. Still very early since I only got it yesterday night, but this should be my main game for the next few weeks.

I think I'm getting towards the end of Disco Elysium. I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers, and I seem to have explored just about everywhere, but I'm at a bottleneck right now. There are two or three skill checks that will progress the main mission, but I don't have the skills to pass them. Might have to save scum one of them just to keep thinks interesting. We'll see.

I've been playing some more stuff recently, which makes me happy.

I got Spongebob Squarepants: Titans of the Tide for Switch 1. The Switch 2 version is a game key card, so I got the proper Switch 1 physical release. It's a Spongebob game, I don't need 4K and 120fps or whatever 😅. It's fun, like the previous two games, seem like they're just building on and evolving the same engine maybe? Such a shame we didn't get a proper physical release for the Switch 2, and I haven't found an "update" for the Switch 1 version (not that I care that much).

I played Cyberpunk 2077 for a bit after the most recent update. There's still so much for me to do in that game (even before the content update), I think I'll be playing it for years.

I bought Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy Rebirth on the eShop since they were dirty cheap. Since the "physical release" is game key cards, I never considered getting them. I'd never get them if there hadn't been such a massive discount. I only played the first hour or so of the first one, it looks really good on the Switch 2. Didn't even download Rebirth yet. I know I'll just save them to play some time in the future.

I'm currently playing and will be playing The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. The game looks incredible. The music is so amazing, I don't know if it's just nostalgia or if it's really that good, but it's just awesome. The next new 3D Zelda on the Switch 2 is going to blow our minds. I'm loving it so far.

    When my mother finally lets me actually on the Switch 2, lol;

    • Mario Kart World (MKW)
    • Ocarina Remake

MKW is pretty fun! Breath of fresh air after playing MK8D for so long. It kind of has become of my ‘don’t think, just passively playing’ game.

I’ve been playing Ocarina for about 1 hour and so far it is pretty neat. Great visuals, decent gameplay. But can’t say much about it yet.

My mother however, is loving Ocarina and Yoshi Mysterious Book. She plays on the Switch 2 most of the times.

You piqued my curiosity enough to go find this waste of a question:

I have some short-answer questions. The woman who runs the Bombchu Bowling game. What happened to her after seven years. And is she single?

Aonuma: That's something we're not going to touch, and I'll leave it to your imagination.

Watched zfg Play through child one yesterday, overall it looks pretty good with only a few changes that were unfortunate. Biggest issue I saw was only being able to have one item available at a time, instead of the originals having 3C button equips.

Pretty disingenuous for the title to say they talk about the bombchu bowling girl when in reality their statement is "we're not going to talk about that" in response to the interviewer being a weirdy

I was having a look into the cartridge structure, and I'm struggling to nail down if Switch 2 cartridges use the ROM (discontinued by Macronix) of the Switch 1 cartridges, or if they use commodity NAND. Has anyone got an idea? I don't really want to tear down my game cards, but knowing that would tell us how much this affects Switch 2. The headline revision suggests NAND, which would imply that there's going to be continued supply for as long as Nintendo wants for Switch 2 considering NAND is everywhere, but some other sources are saying ROM.

Optical disk supply is also getting shrunk, probably more than ROM chips.

It would require a complete redesign of the console. Optical media are more fragile, cumbersome and read data slower and more unreliably. The drive would reduce battery time.

Nintendo ain't going to turn to optical media.
