Then I tried telling Claude Opus 5.5 to “Make it a LOT more fun”... and it did.

Like this is just the most asinine thing in my opinion. The pitch for AI is that it can "make whatever you want" and these people don't even have a single original idea in their heads. They settle for slop because slop is what they want, and they've convinced themselves this is how everyone else sees it, too

No, I kinda feel ya. These glib names used to feel earned and brought levity to often serious issues. Now it feels like people are tripping over themselves to use LLMs to dig out whatever inflated 9.8 they can find and rub our faces in it.

Such is the world, but I'm kinda done laughing for awhile (is also cranky).

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.

    • Those that know binary.
    • Those that don't.
    • And those that didn't expect this joke to be in base 3.

    EDIT:

A statistician, a biologist, and a mathematician are sitting in a cafe watching the building across the street. 2 people enter the building. Some time later, 3 people come back out.

    • The statistician says, "Our initial count must've been off."
    • The biologist replies, "I think they probably reproduced."
    • The mathematician observes, "Now if exactly one person enters the building it will be empty."

Just downloaded and patched this. It comes with translated ads, back inlay, and manual. You can rename these files to match your patched .bin/.cin and drop them in the respective /backcovers, /fanart (this is where I put one of the ads), and /manuals for Emulation Station to have easy access to them.

Sorry if that's obvious to some of you, I just think it's cool to keep this all bundled together on my main gaming system like that.

It should have been Valve doing it! (And that comes from someone hating on Epic and loving Valve, BTW.)

I've written at length elsewhere in the topic about how it's not just the technical implementation, but what this attestation process signifies about control of these companies over your system.

I understand this is one of the weaker arguments I can make in isolation, but it bears asking the question: why is it Epic that's doing it and not Valve?

I read your comment and I'm familiar with the technology. I'm not insinuating they're putting anything sleazy in the kernel, in fact I acknowledge there are practical security benefits to it. That's where a lot of the nuance comes in.

Secure Boot and the TPM help verify the boot process and that it hasn't been tampered with. I keep mentioning TPM as well because it's part of the mechanisms already in place with CoD[1], it has remote attestation[2], and has been pitched as a DRM mechanism since at least 2009[3]. This makes a lot more sense in a corporate/enterprise environment where you're either using a company issued laptop or your BYOD device needs to prove it's up to a standard worthy of trust to connect and interact with network resources. In this scenario the company has created a secure platform and your device needs to be trusted within it.

But on a consumer level, while you can still argue there's protection from tampering by malicious parties with the boot process, you have to ask yourself what platform you're participating in and why. This is the equivalent of allowing the cops to put a camera in your house on the grounds that if everyone is watched it'll reduce crime. Microsoft (or whatever game developer) wants to know your device can be trusted on their platform and you need to submit to whatever those standards are. Allowing EAC is opening the door to that process. If Microsoft sniffs something out on your PC they don't like, they can decline to run the software. It gives them right of denial over what your system looks like. They can enforce you to run telemetry scraping services as part of the configuration that must be in place to trust your device.

So while I don't have any proof that this is being used quite in that manner yet, or even what it might eventually look like, it is well within possibility. And we know the tech industry absolutely has an appetite for it. This is the Sony rootkit scandal from 2005 except now they just tell you they're doing it instead of trying to hide the fact.

You're free to make of that information what you will and evaluate how much of a likely threat you perceive any of that to be and if it's worth the tradeoff. And sorry about the people downvoting you, I'm just trying to get this information out there. It's complicated and nuanced, I get it.

It's Moon Child (Whoa oh oh oh) You got the power to be his friend!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EswuTvvkW_A

This hit Bluesky a few days ago and made waves, people just really enjoyed the awesome tunes and out of it came a shitstorm of posts and memes. Enough to summon the original dev back to the platform to share his insight, and the source code!

All credit to https://bsky.app/profile/mors.games who put in excellent work making sure that even my PS5 controller in Linux was recognized in the browser. Accidentally lost 30 minutes collecting secret black gems when I only intended to check it out. And of course to https://bsky.app/profile/seven.eurosky.social himself! Please show them some love.

The Battle Was Just to Continue that Future

I made it past the midboss, but Area 5 is RIDICULOUS and I am never getting that 1 CC. That's fine, I'm still very proud of this. I never thought I would be into bullet hells, they seemed frustrating and out of my reach, but now I play them to relax. Once you crack them they're really not so intimidating and very conducive to flow state. Cave makes some of the absolute best and I adore the crunchy 2D pixel work. Also highly recommend Espgaluda and Mushihimasama Futari. I also have a soft spot for Deathsmiles, ESPRa.De., and Muchi Muchi Pork. For non-Cave stuff, Raizing's Armed Police Batrider and Sorcer Striker/Dimahoo are great as well as Psiykyo's Dragon Blaze.

Seriously, give them a try. Fire up MAME where you can pump infinite virtual quarters into them, pick one to focus on and see what you can do. You might be surprised.
